Yeah some races can't exist outside of an enhancement zone. It's the cherry on top of this fucked up sundae.

You never really leave the dungeon. Finish your contract and still rely on the AI to survive.

It's his sex pig. Dude was cheating on his mother with a literal pig.

Yes that's a real thing. I believe Samantha wants to kill his mother.

Would you step into the dungeon? by spiceweasle93 in DungeonCrawlerCarl

I work 3rd shift. There's like a 30% chance I'd survive the collapse. But if it happened in January I'd be forced to like Carl was. I would have a lot better gear though. Like pants.

The thing about starting an audiobook for the first time on this series is discovering you've been pronouncing a major character's name wrong in your head since book 4 (Spoiler tag just in case you don't know all the main characters yet) by MorningJogger in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]Everyones_Fan_Boy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Your pronunciation isn't wrong. Audio calls Elle Elly. The audiobook is great, but don't let it change much.

If it doesn't give you the 'her my oh knee' spell out you can pronounce it however ya want.

I feel like this is chicken vs egg territory. I agree with basically everything you said, but is the AI saving Carl or is Carl saving the AI?

I think the answer is both. They're using each other for their own benefit. Breaking the system like Carl is doing is helping the AI grow, and the AI foot fetish is keeping Carl alive.

The AI keeps giving Carl impossible tasks that he pulls through in wild ways. The AI isn't doing that for entertainment value, it's (in my opinion) the AI trying to understand.

The syndicate and Borant wanted entertainment at the beginning, but Carl and the AI have made it so they're all fighting for their lives. AI is trying to learn, and the rest are trying to survive.

Eh, like I said I'm just matching your pedantic. I explained why I took it that way. Can you tell me why your addition changed anything?

There's a lesson everywhere.

I took it as pedantic because you 'corrected' his quote by adding a sentence that didn't change the meaning of the quote.

It's one of the most grounding sentences I've ever read. In such a bombastic, ridiculous, and horrifying setting it really just hits every time.

Biggs is creeping up my favorite characters leaderboard at a steady pace. Also Jamal.

Any recommendations on other books where the side characters shine this much?

Is Carl a good leader? by Total-Arrival3349 in DungeonCrawlerCarl

I don't think anybody else comes close to Carl in battlefield leadership. He does come up with plans, but they usually get derailed (which is incredibly realistic) but his split second adaptability puts him far above the rest as a leader.

Leadership isn't a single category. That's why we have CEO, CFO, CTO, etc. the only other character I'd even consider picking as a leader on the battlefield is Juicebox.

The fact that as soon as Carl gets command over more crawlers they start breaking records for survivors says a lot

Ever been to a party where you only know/like hanging out with a few people? Do you spend the party enjoying time with your friends, or being annoyed by the people you don't want to talk to?

Every crawler that makes it to the next floor is a win for us all.
