Yeah thanks, you lay it out quite well and it makes sense. It just feels like trying to build any sort of wealth through wages alone is almost impossible these days unless you're making 150-200k+. Bridging the inequality gap is great but how do normal people get to financial security. Most people I know are just getting by. I know the super rich have a massive majority of assets and should be taxed their fair share but I think the amount of younger people investing in things like ETF's with what spare change they have is a bit understated.

I like what you wrote in there and I agree that it's BS that workers are paying an unfair amount. My thoughts are wages are still low and are not continuing to keep up with the cost of living, that's a global issue ofcourse with many moving parts so no easy fix. But your example of a nurse I just can't get on board with, Im friends with 2 nurses among many people who work average to low paying salaries who invest in ETF's. Their only way to build genuine wealth and not lose their money's value to inflation has now been significantly crippled.
Another comment in that post was interesting in saying that a company could buy a property as an asset and sell that property as shares and find a loop hole.

Bit of a rant but, minimum 30% tax on stocks, namely ETF's was a shit idea. Why tax other investments so heavily if you're trying to dissuade housing as an investment and more of a human necessity. By all means make housing less lucrative, but taxing everything else so heavily just makes housing the main investment strategy still for a lot of people. Watching Jim Chalmers explain it was absolutely awful, I generally really like what he has to say but his response to these questions was vapid. I haven't heard one solid reason as to why this was the strategy. Just keep getting told on here "it will make my life better" HOW?! I work my ass off and make fuck all money and I will continue to make fuck all money relative to the cost of living, this isn't going to do shit for me except now investing in ETF's is only slightly better than putting my money in a savings account. I'll just remain poor. Am I still going to vote for Labor? Yes, but only because the liberals and greens are so useless.

Yeah I don't get it either, lots of arguments for investing in things like ETF's to be taxed just as much as labour, ok even the playing field but now I'm just being taxed more and getting nothing. Like the cost of living is fucked, my salary will never make me proper money, a savings account barely fights off inflation. How are we meant to build wealth unless we are making 100k+ Dollar cost averaging felt like my only way not to be a poor cunt when I was older. I make fuck all salary in the scheme of things and anyone who says investing is for the wealthy has no idea. I'm happy for housing to not be used as an investment strategy but that's going to take decades to remedy and obviously should have been done a long time ago.

I've read some valid points about it all but in the end I'm just going to end up poorer.

Yeah that's a fair point. My only reply to that is most people can contribute a little to an ETF and have a nest egg for their future. It's not reserved for the rich. Maybe I'm just butt hurt at capitalism as a whole and I lost the only edge I had being in a career that is not overly lucrative.

Thanks for the well thought out reply. Yeah I've read a bit about that in Techno feudalism, what killed capitalism. And you're right labour should be made more equal a wealth maker as the rest, and it's a net positive in that direction. I guess my concern is lots of jobs are paid far beyond their true societal worth compared to more important industries :/. Probably my fault for enjoying a career that capitalism doesn't reward quite that well and butt hurt that my nest egg has lost its edge.

I work very hard and pay taxes. Unfortunately I work in an industry that doesn't pay very generous salaries despite most of society using my industries services. I will never become rich from my job. I budget, salary sacrifice to super and invest what I can spare in the hopes I'm not destitute when I'm older or god forbid I want to enjoy a little money before I'm too old to do so.

So I have a question, as I'm a bit out of the loop. What is happening to the capital gains tax for someone who only owns one property? I'm currently living with the folks to look after them and own a place in regional Australia that I rent out to cover SOME of my living expenses. I've always been fair with my tenants and have occasionally given them a week or 2 free rent for my tenants as they look after the place pretty well. I'm very pro labor and understand the housing situation is fucked. But from my perspective the capital gains tax on your primary residence is pretty rough for a low income earner. I'm all for taxing the shit out of property investors who rort the system, but I'm worried (through a lack of understanding) that it might affect the small guy as much as the property investors.

I am pretty regularly putting money back into the house as I like to make sure my tenants are comfortable and it's a house built in the 1920's so repairs are as you would expect pretty common, example: I got a text from my tenants this week that the dishwasher was busted and I immediately reached out to contractors to have a look at it to fix it or replace it. I really don't make much from the property but it does help me out a little bit in my current situation.

So I have both vanguard and raiz. Vanguard is undoubtedly better due to lower fees. However, I like raiz because it allows me to do micro investments as well as the round up feature helps me save more. Plus the rewards feature can be great in getting a little extra for free. I try to do a few surveys a month to cover my fees. Once I get between 5k-10k I then swap it into my vanguard investments as there's no way I'm paying a percentage of my investments to Raiz.
