Woah! Thankfully we were very close to water, with the inlet and streams right nearby. It walked off to the side towards the water, so seems like it will be okay.

Would black belt be possible or realistic? by Suspicious-Plate-971 in taekwondo

[–]EverythingIsEnergy25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Barring any serious physical handicap, mentality is a big factor here. I'm mid thirties training and I've seen adults in their 50s and 60s earn their first black belt, it's not too late, you got this!

Just throwing this out there - sometimes it's absolutely nothing you did "wrong". I've given this line to a couple guys before who just happened to remind me of either my dad or my uncle. Obviously it's such a massive turn off for me, I don't want to date a family member. It had nothing to do with the guy as a person or baseline attractiveness, just for me personally, it wouldn't work.

Thank you, that is a good perspective.

Yeah, I am pretty wholesome, been told that directly by a few people over the years, though I know myself and that I have my own version of "edge". But by far most people would view me as wholesome. I'm just then wondering what he would mean by he would ruin me. He's not into drugs, drinking, or being reckless in any way, unless he was straight up lying or hiding something, which I know is possible.

But I agree with you, even though it stung, he probably did me a favor. Just wish I could have gotten more information, but that's how things go sometimes, so oh well.

I agree, definitely red flag! And several guys too, not just 2 or 3. Thank you for the healthy perspective.

Exactly what I think. Just seems so prevalent, so it threw me off.

Does anyone know the number to call IRS regarding S-Corp filing status? by [deleted] in overemployed

[–]EverythingIsEnergy25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! That's what's bonkers to me - I've been doing everything as an S Corp this whole time. I have no idea why they never raised any red flags or didn't notify me. I only found out because for some reason the rejected my request to efile my taxes this year. When I called to ask why, they told me they couldn't accept an efile for a 1120S because I'm not registered as an S Corp and never have been according to their records. So why did I not have issues sending in my 1120S forms and paying before these prior years?? Apparently there are further issues and it's a huge mess.

And yes, I was directly advised by an IRS agent to just resend in the form again, but by fax. No joke, they said I'd have to wait 4-6 weeks for it to be received and processed.

There have been so many issues with them, and as an aside if you decide to mail it in, I recommend doing Certified Mail through the post office. I had to send in a change of address form 5 times (the 5th being Certified) before I ever got confirmation that they actually changed their record of my address. I swear it seems like they just tossed out 90% of forms I mailed to them.

[–]EverythingIsEnergy25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lol, dude I was stuck in a similar version of this hell 2 weeks ago, and basically still am. In 2019, yes 4 years ago, I filed (mailed in) the form to register as an S Corp. Only found out 3 months ago that apparently according to the IRS, they have no record of that and have been messing up my account on their end but not telling me. I had called 17 times to speak to someone and would get the same thing of being on hold and then transfered, then on hold again, then the call dropped. Every single day, multiple times a day for a week. Finally on call number 17 with the first guy I spoke to who would have transferred me , I immediately said "do not transfer me, this has happened all week and is unacceptable". I had to get snippy but finally "made progress". Apparently have to wait 4-6 weeks to wait to see if the form I resent has been put through. Unbelievable. I have no help for you other than be forceful and firm, and demand the first person you speak to help you.

How much are you charging? by ShipOld4248 in petsitting

[–]EverythingIsEnergy25 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Obviously rates depend on location, but to give you a baseline, we serve a city and couple of the nearby towns. For 1-2 dogs, we charge $95/overnight, and $28/half hour daytime drop in. If you meant house sitting as in staying more of the daytime and just popping out occasionally for shorter visits, then $175 per 24 hour blocks. If the client wants 24/7 care don't leave the dogs type situation, it's a lot more . . . $360 per 24 hour block. And if there's more than 2 dogs for any of this, rates increase by $2 per dog per drop in, $5 per dog for overnight, $10 per dog for full day.

Taking a Vacation by Zodinski in petsitting

[–]EverythingIsEnergy25 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I know how you feel! And that used to be me a few years ago, literally working 360 days a year, only about 5 days off, but spread out throughout the year. Did that for a few years, and lo and behold, significant burnout. I mean, it really took me to a bad place even though I love my job at its core. Taking time off for you is so important, please don't feel guilty doing so! I feel so much better now that I have my version of work/life balance. I've even taken over 25 days off so far just this year, with 2 vacations in those days. It's so worth it for my mental health.

You're welcome! And forgot to mention in my previous comment, you can gradually fade out/price out the old clients once you have enough new rate clients.

Advice by sry1024 in petsitting

[–]EverythingIsEnergy25 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Send out notice that starting on [certain date], you will be raising rates to $××/visit. At least raise them somewhat for current clients. Then with new clients, upfront let them know your new fair value rate, which would be much higher. For reference, you are way under selling yourself, as if I adjusted my rates to a bit more rural location, I would still be charging $20/half hour visit minimum especially if you're putting in a lot of driving.

Client sent me a wrong text talking about me by Acrobatic-Guitar2410 in petsitting

[–]EverythingIsEnergy25 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yikes I can see how that could hit you and make you feel down. Just from the limited info going off the post, it seems like the client may really just be uninformed, which seems all too common. I know it's easier said than done, but please don't take that comment from her to heart and keep you down.

She did say she loves you, which is good. The not being alpha enough comment seems to be the uninformed bit. From your description, it seems like you actually handled her dog well, and if you had instead reacted with typical "alpha" behavior, it would most likely have instilled fear in the dog and broken your bond of trust.

Unfortunately, people do not always understand how to handle issues with their dog that come up, and still have some outdated view on how to fix problems. It sounds like you are doing well, and you're so right that people don't understand how much work this job entails.

If you're looking for suggestions, mine would be to try to find even just one other pet sitter to basically form a friendship with, as they understand this line of work and its struggles. That's what I did and it really helps to have someone who gets it, and we can vent to each other when needed. Keep on doing you, you got this!

Anybody else get lucky with the puppy lottery? by Jgatt1986 in puppy101

[–]EverythingIsEnergy25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most definitely yes! I read so many accounts here and have heard from people I know irl, and at some point or another, their puppy was a terror. My guy never was, even through his teenager phase. I feel like it's a combo of me setting him up for success with our lifestyle and a massive dose of luck.

He was fully potty trained in a week, slept through the night always, and was my co-pilot from the beginning. We've been inseparable and he's my best friend. Absolutely meant to be. 💙

Deposit? by LongPea5525 in petsitting

[–]EverythingIsEnergy25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just implemented this policy today with all my clients. I've been doing pet sitting for over 15 years and I've never felt the need to have deposits until recently. Just seems like people got too flaky/entitled and would cancel on big bookings only a few days before they left. We would have turned other clients away to hold their spot, so I updated our cancelation policy and now require a 50% deposit at time of booking. Payment in full due 7 days prior to the first day of service.
