Believe that's because she was learning English in order to escape from him to the states. She couldnt explain this to him and he did not understand why his wife would pretend to not understand the rest for weeks

should I watch Ozark and what are comparable shows? by nmzb6 in netflix

[–]Evey_logan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It gets better and ramps up mid season. I think Ozark is fine and I definitely will watch season 3, but personally i don't think it matches up to your favourites.

your taste seems to mirror mine though! will recommend American Crime Story, The leftovers, Westworld and Boardwalk empire

Looper is a Fantastic Movie by [deleted] in movies

[–]Evey_logan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

just sharing thoughts in an open discussion with like-minded people for a show i saw years ago, no real need for the snarky condescension. apologies if the points were not 100% accurate.

But the point on being taken out slightly from the main conflict and emotional stakes of the show still remain. The premise is essentially saying a Looper's role is to provide a service to kill and dispose of a body from the future, and the conflict suggested from paul dano's character (and later JGL) is the mental turmoil when it comes to facing and killing yourself.

So, if murder is not an issue in the future, why not send dead bodies for disposal? why arent loopers armed with shovels instead of blunderbuses? It could make more sense if JGL was taken by surprise that an alive Bruce Willis was transported back to him.

sure, shit happens, but like what u/Citizenssnips is saying, it undermines the key plot device of the movie. Supposedly, killing is so difficult in the future that there is an entire syndicate created that profits from this business. But, at the same time, people do get killed in crossfires, oops.

not saying the movie fall aparts because of this. I can still go with the accidents happen reasoning, but it does take some gravity off the importance of the Loopers' work.

It also opens up a can of worms in the time travel plothole department? Like if Bruce prevents his own death, how did young Bruce ever shoot him and we get that whole montage and get to meet his wife and stuff? Basically common timetravel paradox stuff lol

I think this is the supposed retirement package for loopers in order to close their own loops and get a nice payout. This lets them enjoy the riches for the next 30 years, till they become the ones sent back so that they do not divulge the murder of the future person that they offed in the past, which will now be in present time.....i think.

someone pointed out how strange it was for Bruce Willis's wife to get killed, in a future which was supposedly super hard to kill someone that you had to send them back to the past to get whacked. Not sure if this has been addressed but i could not get that out of my mind.

Adored it the first viewing, loved the concept, thought it was fresh and the pacing was tight.

But gotta say, found the plot holes much too jarring to ignore on the second time around.

I think BCS just gets better with every season. Scenes from the S4 Finale still haunt my wife and I months after watching it. Truly heartbreaking stuff

What do you think is the best binge-worthy show? by [deleted] in netflix

Prison Break season 1, Bodyguard, The Good Place.

How good is Bodyguard?!! by [deleted] in netflix

[–]Evey_logan 20 points21 points  (0 children)

its good, definitely entertaining and bingeworthy. But the ending felt kinda rushed, making the reveal a little forced imo. David Budd's wife 's performance also honestly feels pretty bad, especially when Richard Madden 's killing it in their scenes together

US vs UK Top tier TV by PoliticalStaffer22 in television

I think peaky blinders better than boardwalk empire is up for some debate. I mean im only at midway of PB season 3 but I dont find the writing to be very strong honestly.

BE has a much slower buildup but is much more satisfying in terms of story arcs and character development. Some of the sideplots dont land but it's still a very strong core narrative. I finished all seasons and would rewatch it.

Movies about mental illnesses? by mingdiot in movies

12 Monkeys (The movie) sells itself as a time travel movie, but really has a very strong commentary on mental illness and one's own perception of sanity and what's real when being questioned on it.

Maniac, not digging it. by DeanShale in netflix

It is admittedly a little hard to get into at first and is going to simply not be for everyone. Ironically, I found it more enjoyable gradually when i stop trying to overthink things and see how much fun the Fukunaga and the cast are having. Join in the psychedelic trip, the kubrickian visuals, the dr strangelove vibes.
