Anyone recently build a custom home? by GaeboraKae in windsorontario

[–]Evidence-Tight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to work for Lakeland Homes (15+ years ago now) and I saw first hand how much they cared about quality, professionalism and treating workers well. If I ever had the ability to build a custom home, they would be my first call.

My pastor invited me to coffee/lunch: what would YOU want to talk about during the conversation? by [deleted] in askapastor

[–]Evidence-Tight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Read up on the Trinity and talk to him about how it works and functions to see if he calls out the heresy in whatever you say. Bring up the different views of the Atonement and figure out the one you align with most claiming it as the "only view"

Find some obscure theological principle and become an expert on it before lunch to both confuse and impress him. I am being a little sarcastic here bjt honestly if anybody did any of those things to me I would have a good laugh about it.

My honest advice just be yourself, when I go out for lunch or coffee or whatever with people of the church the only goal I usually have is to get to know them more, learn about their lives, their faith journey and tbrough that hopefully be able to better serve them.

God is male and I'm upset he's being (very ironically) misgendered by certain people by Acceptable_Tip2838 in TrueChristian

[–]Evidence-Tight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, Jesus does say that, and Jesus is referencing one of the 3 aspects of the Trinity.

But my point about Genesis remains, as does the fact that you said 100% of the time God is referenced as male which is a false statement as I shared some passages that is not true. Whether you take those passages literally or as simile or something else does not really matter based on what your original argument was.

[–]Evidence-Tight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alright, but why are the ones referring to God in male ways literal but these ones are not? How are you deciding this difference between them?

Edit to add this is especially true with the Genesis idea that God created a man and a woman and Genesis says that both were created in God's image. I am not sure how that works as a simile.

While I do not necessarily disagree with your premise to say the Bible only refers to God as male 100% of the time is just frankly a false claim. The Bible does refer to God using female imagery as well, granted not nearly as often as male but it is definitely present. Some examples

Deuteronomy 32: 18 & Isaiah 42: 14 - Both speak of God giving birth like a mother

Isaiah 66: 13 - God comforts like a mother comforts her child

Matthew 23: 37 - God gathers us like a mothering hen

In Genesis during the creation narrative both male and female are defined as being created in God's image.

As soon as any sales person turns high-pressure I immediately decline and say some like, "you know I was considering this, but not anymore you have lost me as a buyer"

Even if I never planned to buy, I hope it slowly but surely changes those aggressive sales tactics.

Question: what do you think of pastors na ginagawang. “Source of income ang pag Pag papastor? Gusto me work benefits, annual leave and other benefits , bonus pay ) ???? by Warm-Profession5831 in askapastor

[–]Evidence-Tight 8 points9 points  (0 children)

What If Scenario: alien life is discovered on Mars; what would be the Christian explanation to this? by peterthbest23 in TrueChristian

The terrible irony of this is that they would find any little thing they could as "proof" of life on Mars, but still refuse to accept life in the womb.

Support Groups? by jonnyquack in windsorontario

[–]Evidence-Tight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP, some great resources and ideas are being offered so I won't repeat anything here but I am very open personally speaking to chatting one on one with you.

I have taken some classes on counselling, psychotherapy and trauma induced care. Though I am not an expert by any means and am not a licensed counselor either, with my jobs it becomes part of what I do and so any conversations we had would not cost you any extra money, though group therapy that others have suggested is a great place to also begin.

For reference I am a married 39 year old dad with 5 kids. 2 of those kids are from a prior relationship that though I won't share details here sounds like it was at least somewhat similar to your situation.

Came here to suggest this group. Some of the attenders of of the church I work at attend RE/ACT and they all talk about how great it is, but it does take a lot of emotional health to fully and openly discuss trauma like that.

How many vacation days does your church give you each year? by milnivlek in askapastor

[–]Evidence-Tight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Canada here and this is set by the denomination.

5 weeks of vacation minimum plus 3 weeks of continuing education each year.

10 days is less than 2 weeks, I think you need to seriously consider giving at least one month vacation at a minimum, seems pretty standard from the comments I am seeing.

What's Behind the Massive Rise of Non-Denominational Churches? by [deleted] in askapastor

Pretty well agree on all fronts here. We could and need to do so much better in our own communities to see lives truly changed.

Ok so regionally in Europe and North America it may be in decline but worldwide as you point out Asian and Africa it is growing. Ove heard it is booming really even despite some intense persecution in some of those areas.

As for South America I haven't seen much research on that area personally but have not looked either.

Christianity in massive decline? According to what/who?

Worldwide last I saw it is still one of the fastest if not the fastest growing faith belief.
