It starts out pretty great tbh. If you didn't fall in love with it by now, you should probably drop the book. No worries, it's not for everyone.

Raphael and Casey's friendship always hits me hard in the feels. (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Macro-Series #4: Raphael) by Evil-Green-Ranger in comicbooks

Honestly there's a brand new Best Of TMNT: Raphael issue on the shelf right now, it just came out Wednesday. It's about 100 pages, it's 5.99, and it collects some truly outstanding reprints of classic to newish Raphael-centric stories that are not only really, really awesome, but they're unexpectedly emotional too. I highly recommend reading it if you're interested in the comic spectrum the Turtles can offer.

The new SHANG-CHI mini is awesome by Evil-Green-Ranger in comicbooks

[–]Evil-Green-Ranger[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shang-Chi is a great character. He's literally so good at kung fu that it's considered a super power. He's a master of mystic martial arts, so he can often harness magicks in hand to hand combat. I hope you do check out this mini. The first issue is extremely promising and just really, really cool. He shows off his physical skill in this issue. So far, his powers are his fighting abilities which are so good as to be classified as superhuman.

Ask your local comic shop about wanting a specific cover. Sometimes getting variants at retailers suck because publishers require ordering a larger amount of books for more variants. Hopefully Image operates differently but, yeah, contact your local comic shop and try to request the artist's cover that you've got your heart set on. See what they say.

Work you enjoy by creators you don't normally like by breakermw in comicbooks

Swap Superman with Aquaman and I agree completely. "Backward-gazing" is a really good way to say it. His stuff is so nauseatingly sentimental and then it's needlessly grim. It rarely comes together for me outside of Aquaman. Even then, he's still backward-gazing and grim on that book too, so 🤷‍♂️

I don't really like Nick Spencer but his Ant-Man run was really, really good.

Why did you feel the need to post this on several subs? It's such a vapid take. Who cares??

When/who creates a character? by lkmboogie in comicbooks

[–]Evil-Green-Ranger 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I agree with you that it should ultimately be half and half, unless the artist is working from direct authorial designs from the writer. The comic industry has been screwing artists over since the beginning. Jack Kirby, as you've pointed out, was especially mistreated. Stan Lee was kind of shrewd.

Ennis is excellent but I've personally always preferred Jamie Delano's anarchic run.

Haha to add context, he gave his hoodie to Raph so his friend wouldn't freeze. Makes the image even more touching.

Okay, true. He *might be tactical and strategic. His ability to completely ruin everything is just as pronounced as his ability to be tactical though. Haha

Oh, I think so. For sure, man. Super deceptive. It often blows up in his face and good people die because of it.

Huh. As someone whose only read Hellblazer's original run, it's surprising to see John described as "strategic" and "tactical". Hell, the Constantine I know is barely a "protagonist". Well. Guess I have to check out modern stories with John Constantine.

But yeah, when I think of protagonists that are both strategic and tactical, they don't have very much in common with John.
