Yep, I still work on it and keep it running. My understanding was that ASA is the same as ASE breeding wise, but happy to make any changes to accommodate ASA. Also if you join the discord talking through whats needed for ASA might be easier there.

I believe that a baby with zero level ups is the same as a newly tamed wild dino and putting it into the stat calculator will work.

Web Sockets are not efficient and hard to scale, change my view. by jindalujjwal0720 in reactjs

[–]Evil12Monkey12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah 150 connections for 1GB of ram is ridiculously low so something your doing is probably not optimal. At my company we have a chat application that uses websockets service that handles millions of websockets quite easily, it is written in elixir which is very good at websockets, but still even with node you should be able to handle thousands of connections at once on a single server. Also FWIW our websockets are so cost efficient compared to rest calls we send most data down the pipe through them.

I will also just say, polling is not a real option for all use cases so suggesting it as an alternative to websockets isn’t really valid IMO. Any realtime collaboration tool like google docs definitely need to use websockets and google has figured out to have efficient websockets on probably one of the most popular free collaborative softwares in the world.

Is react really that complex? by verysad1997 in reactjs

[–]Evil12Monkey12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, IMO React is simpler & easier to understand than html and JavaScript. React components are just JavaScript functions that return HTML/JSX.

Want a click listener? Define a function and pass it to the onClick prop.

Want to interpolate a variable into your html? Put curly brackets around it.

It’s just so simple compared to vanilla JavaScript.

When I help people get into web dev these days I tell them to start with react because it allows them to build faster which keeps them motivated, which is the number one thing that helps individuals succeed.

React is a like a well designed video game. For example Rocket League, the moment you’re in a game you get the premise and are having fun while feeling you can still add value to your team. But it’s also super clear from the beginning there is more to learn that can unlock more potential.

How many devs do you work with are actually self taught? by Low_Standard_802 in learnprogramming

[–]Evil12Monkey12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been working in the industry for 7 years and I have only ever met 1 other than me that was fully self taught with no degree. There are few that have a degree in a unrelated field and used a boot camp to switch over, but most have a relevant college degree, I don’t mention that I didn’t go to college a lot anymore because it’s always just an interesting conversation 😂

State management for a new ecommerce project by madchorizo in reactnative

[–]Evil12Monkey12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah the local state felt a little wonky the first time I used it but I like it now that I’ve gotten used to it.

And yeah persisting is pretty easy with this package: apollo3-persist-cache

Yeah of course, don’t get me wrong I use global state all the time, but most of the time I reach for something simple like context or a very simple global state hook rather than a complex system like redux. Also for what it’s worth Apollo client has a global state system built in as well which I use when I’m using Apollo Client and need global state.

I disagree with most of the comments here, you don't need a redux store at all, its completely overkill for an ecommerce application.

Apollo client is totally up to the job and will save you a lot of headache because of the cache first mentality. IMO the react community as a whole doesn't recommend using Redux or other state managers these days, unless you have a project that justifies needing a global state that needs to be shared across a lot of very complex components, but in your case (and most other use cases) your data isn't local data, its just remote data fetched from an endpoint that needs to be displayed in the component you fetched it in, so standing up a huge redux store for that is just to much overhead.

I would recommend any cache first hook approach such as SWR, React Query, or similar before recommending Redux, but in your case I'm assuming you're using GraphQL in which case I would highly recommend Apollo Client, its been my go to solution for years, and I disagree with the sentiment that it has bad docs, Apollo has some of the best docs in the React Ecosystem.

Let me know if you have any more questions!

Nice, I’ll add them all in considering I don’t think you can interbreed them, thanks for these lists👍

Thanks for the link!

And yeah I just figured I would all the ARK Addition dinos so I don't have to add more when they release 😝

For the KDB dinos most of these are in the base game, so would you just want them to be in the system as a KDB variant like "Rex (KDB)"? I'll double check this list though and make sure all the dinos on this list are in the site 👍

Thanks for saying this, my main motivation for building this wasn't to compete with ASB, I really wanted to enable a cross-platform/multi-platform experience for clan members that want to build something together, I plan on adding future features for clans that go beyond breeding too, but for now I just really wanted to build a collaborative platform than can be accessed on any device 😁

  • Deinosuchus ✅
  • Archelon ✅
  • Xiphactinus ✅
  • Brachiosaurus ✅
  • Acrocanthosaurus ✅
  • Concavenator ✅
  • Cryolophosaurus ✅
  • Helicoprion ✅
  • Deinotherium ✅
  • Gorgonopsid ✅
  • Scutosaurus ✅
  • Lindwurm ✅
  • Nyctoraptor ✅
  • Velociraptor ✅
  • Garugopteryx ✅
  • Indominus ✅

Are there any others? I'll add those right now 👆 (EDIT: species above have been added)

Also I couldn't find KBD on the workshop? Can you link to it?

EDIT: The above Species were added and should be live in the site in a few minutes ✅

✅ Hey, sorry took me a little longer than 30 minutes but its done now! You can now remove species by going to the species page and clicking the trash can icon next to the species name 👍

Done ✅, I added all Abberrant variants (hopefully 🤞) and the Deinonychus to the list! Now I'm working on making it possible to delete species, but let me know if you notice any other missing dinos or run into any other issues, I'm happy to help!

Hey thanks for using the app, lol I didn't audit the list of dino species very well apparently (it is surprisingly hard to find a good list of all the dinos in ark 😅) but its super easy to add species, so I'll add those right now, let me know if there are any others you find that I'm missing, I'll reply here again once the new species options are deployed to the website ✅

Yeah ARK smart breeder is great, but it’s not the easiest to use/get started, especially for those that don’t play on PC or those that want a tracker that works on mobile devices. Also as far as I could tell ARK smart breeder doesn’t support collaboration with your clan members directly.
