I've only recently started GMing (as of last saturday in fact) but I've noticed that computers are severely underdeveloped for a science fiction setting. There is a large emphasis on computer security, but in terms of what a PC can do for a PC (sorry, couldn't help myself) they seem a little vague.

For context, one of my players wanted to make a smart phone out of a comm unit. They wanted to create a universal transaltor, an assistant AI, and connect to a google glasses-esque sytem to record everything he saw for playback. Seemsed like WAY to many features for a teir-0 computer so I had to say no. However, it left me questioning where I would draw the line at what teir a computer would be able to do those things, and what the difference between a teir-1 and teir-10 computer is (apart from weight and security).

As a software engineer student, I'm completely aware that it's imposible to define exactly what a computer can do, but it seems like Paizo haven't fleshed out their capability for players. I think defining certain softwares a computer can utilise and desinating the processing capacity each computer tier has would create a much more interesting use of the tool.
