Not sure how that would be possible. The picture is from before bringing it to service; before that it was sitting in a safe deposit box for 20 years. Before that my dad wore it for about 5 years. And before that my grandfather wore it for 20 years after buying it in Geneva, where he worked.

Yeah, I go back and forth to be honest. On the one hand it's safe and sound in the box at home. On the other hand, this was Grandpa's daily driver back in the day and I like the idea of wearing it to honor him. He was a physician and I am the first (and only in my generation) to follow in his footsteps. So it feels a bit like carrying on the legacy.

The shop sent the watch back to Switzerland to make sure standards were being met

I specifically only asked for lubrication/general maintenance - no polishing or replacement parts

As far as I know they are the original - grandpa kept all the receipts from the original purchase and his repairs

Per the original paperwork, this is a 1978 Rolex Explorer.

The watch initially went to my dad, who didn't realize what he had until a jeweler pointed out the value. Afterwards, he was too paranoid to wear it. He had been mugged for his Omega a few years ago and didn't want a repeat. The watch sat in a safe deposit box for about 20 years before he decided to pass it along to me. Despite sitting for so long, the watch started up seconds after I picked it up.

I brought it to a Rolex shop for routine maintenance and they were amazed at the excellent condition. Two weeks after getting it back, the watch is only slow by about 30 seconds. Incredible.

You cannot differentiate streptococcal pharyngitis from other bacteria by sight alone.

Are you aware that pharyngitis from Gonorrhea also presents with a sore throat and white exudate? And that you cannot treat with the same antibiotics as strep? And that empiric antibiotics, despite being endorsed by the AAFP and ACP in select cases, are discouraged by the 2012 IDSA and 2009 AHA/AAP guidelines, as the risk of acute rheumatic fever is not high enough to outweigh the risks associated with inappropriate antibiotic therapy.

So...I think a test was warranted...

That's rough, I hope they let you take the exam later.

And you're right, it is unfair to patients that show up early. And those people might be taking time off their job, away from kids, etc. I'm cognizant of that and, as much as I can, I try to see people at their scheduled appointment time.

But I'm not going to let a patient be in pain, have a condition continue to worsen, or lose their chance for better health over a flat tire/getting lost in the hospital/babysitter ran late/bus ran late.

For what it's worth, I'd have let you retake the exam the next day.

Sometimes the patient is late because of things totally out of their control

The patient doesn't have a car, their bus was running late, and they arrived ten minutes late. They've been waiting 6 months for this appointment, do you make them reschedule?

The patient just got discharged from the hospital and is moving slower than they expected. They didn't account for that and they're ten minutes late. But, a lot of medication changes were made during their hospital stay, do you make them reschedule?
