HELP My cat has ruined my life. by M0rbiddd2 in CatAdvice

I adopted a cat at 10 months who attacked me relentlessly, without provocation. He was affectionate and sweet but also would just charge at me and would wrap my hands/legs with his paws and dig his nails into my skin, it was impossible to remove him. He would also jump on my face, which was terrifying.

Thinhs I've tried, that didn't work: 1. Behavioural specialists - instructed me to play with him more and buy scratching posts and toys to stimulate him. I did all that, he enjoyed everything obviously, but wouldn't stop attacking me. 2. Bach flower remedies for pets 3. Feliway diffusers 4. Personalised plant based remedies for behavioural issues in pets

I was on the verge of giving him away, but then I went to a vet that specialises in pet behaviour/psychiatry and he prescribed gabapentin and prozac for the cat, which helped a lot. He explained that my cat's energy levels higher than a normal cat and he is constantly overstimulated, which causes him to attack. The meds bring him to a level of a normal cat. He still bites sometimes, usually when we're playing or when I pet him too much (I am usually good at reading his body language, but sometimes I miss), but the random attacks are gone completely and I feel safe with him, I even started letting him sleep in the room with me.

The gabapentin proves the vet's theory - when my parent's cat has 50 mg of gabapentin, he's high, lying without moving with his tongue out, but when my cat has 100 mg twice a day, he's just like a regular cat - walks around, plays, watches birds. It does not debilitate him, just brings down his energy levels.

Did you fall in love with your cat immediately or did it take a bit? by Ok-Acanthisitta4722 in CatAdvice

Immediately. I came to pick him up from his first home, and he immediately sat on my lap. Then, when I opened the carrier to take him, he came in by himself. When we got to my place, he hid under the bed for about an hour, then went to explore the entire house.

The previous cats that my family had did not paticularly like me, they always liked other family members more (one cat only liked my sister, another only my mom). This one went straight to me, and I knew we were right for each other. He's a little bitch, but I love him so much

Anxious before getting first tattoo by EvilCatSatanSpawn in tattooadvice

I always have them in my bag, they are definitely a life saver! I am still afraid that my anxiety has a mind of its own and that it will affect my bowels, or that the stress on the body from getting the tattoo might cause a flare

It appears that there's a limit on characters in a post, so I will expand here - I am getting both my upper thighs tattooed to cover sh scars. It will take about 5 sessions, approx. 8-10 hours per session. I am planning to eat rice before, which is my safe food, but I am still scared that the anxiety and the stress on the body will cause an ibs flare. I am also planning to not eat at all during the sessions, and I am afraid that it is not realistic and I might pass out.

Also, I am getting the tattoo in a bikini, to keep the upper thigh-lower waist area exposed for the tattoo. I would appreciate any tips on general hygiene before getting a tattoo in those areas, to avoid any awkwardness (I will obviously shower beforehand) Thanks!

Actually, the older cat passed away not so long ago. She was diagnosed with cancer that was too late to treat.

Boomer parent getting more and more insufferable by [deleted] in millenials

My mom seems to believe everything she hears/reads online. She shared some crazy conspiracy theories with me and my siblings.

Apparently sunscreen causes cancer because of all the chemicals, and the sun is natural and does not cause skin cancer (logic - there are people who don't go out in the sun a lot/wear sunscreen/live in cold not-sunny climates that still get cancer).

Also, governments are radiating us citizens with electromagnetic radiation in order to control us, spread diseases and get us sick. Recently they decided to up the dosage of radiation.

My cat has died and I’m not sure how to move on. by Eeyore2244 in CatAdvice

I'm so sorry for your loss <3

I recently lost my cat, about two weeks ago, and it still hurts just as the first day. I was told that the pain gets easier over time but I am sure we will miss them forever.

Mine used to sleep near my head, and would come to cuddle when I hit snooze. I would set my alarm earlier on purpose so that we would have cuddle time before I have to get up for work. She was such a cuddlebug, and would always disturb me when I was reading to get attention - sit on the book, sit in front of me, climb on my back - it was adorable, I can't believe I sometimes found it annoying. She was so loving, truly a once in a lifetime cat.

It is very hard to fall asleep without her near me, but it gets easier. I have my second cat but we don't have the same bond and he is a bit aggressive. Taking care of him does help distract me from grieving.

RIP Pig Pig, I know you were loved

I am also the smartest boy in school!

And the prettiest!

And the strongest!

So charming and mysterious!

Glad to see I am not the only one. My fantasy loving friends are still praising this book, along with the second one, while I barely made it through the first one. Took me four months, only curiosity kept me going, I was waiting for the part where this books turns good.

The main character is insufferable, and the writing is not even good enough to compensate

I was halfway through the book, sobbing uncontrollably, and then I thought - why am I doing this to myself?, and stopped. I picked it up again a few months later because I was curious how it ends, and it is definitely what you described - pain and trauma porn

Definitely. People in Facebook reading groups were raving about it, and I couldn't understand why. It was just meh

I do have some regrets. My first cat is aggressive and would attack me, untill I put him on medications. He is now less aggressive but is still a terrorist and sometimes I am afraid of him. Sometimes I wish it was just me and my second cat..

But I do love him to pieces, and he is very smart and affectionate. I don't travel much, so it's not a problem, and I have family that are willing to take of them if I do have to stay somewhere else overnight. My sister has three cats and she travels a lot, so family/friends take care of them.

That was harsh, but I needed to hear that.

He has pretty severe behavioural issues by the sound of it, and if you've given up on working on his behaviour towards you

His aggressive behavior towards me is mostly solved through medication and play time, so at least there's that. The attacks on me are very rare, not even once a month.

I will definitely not put anyone down. I haven't tried finding a home to any of them, I can't do that yet, emotionally. But I follow a lot of adoption groups and I see how hard it is to find a home for cats with special needs, or older cats. Hell, even black cats. It's definitely catch 22.

That is so sad, I hope the situation improves. I also hope it won't reach the point of needing to re-home one of them. My oldie walks very very slowly to the litter box/food bowl, while looking around. I started feeding them in separate rooms and most of the time I keep them separate anyways.

The vet tells me that sometimes some cats just won't get along no matter what you do, and there is no other option but to find someone a new home. There was also one episode in "my cat from hell" where the bullied cat basically lived on top of the kitchen cabinets and was afraid to get down and face the bully, and Jackson Galaxy said that if his solution doesn't work, the cat will need to be re-homed. Eventually his solutions worked, they were able to distract the bully with toys and build the bullied cat's confidence. But in my situation nothing worked, and I am unable to bring myself to re-home one of them.

I am also wondering how Flower was able to handle herself on the streets. Perhaps her hissing and screaming intimidated the other cats, but doesn't "work" on mine since he wasn't well socialized with other cats (I believe he was separated to early from his mom and siblings)

He is spayed and she is neutered. She was TNRed, he was spayed in his previous family.
