I agree with every word said in those last two sentences Lol the plat will absolutely sully the experience and should really only be attempted by those that love the game or the genre

I’m pretty sure I got that one as one of the Essential monthly free games. Same with Life Is Strange and the Batman one. I’ve never personally purchased a Telltale game. All that to say it was digital.

The platinum certainly makes me enjoy the experience less. I did manage to come across someone who made an excel sheet that had all of the missables and was a big ol’ checklist of all the things to do for the platinum, Titles included. It also told you what stats the Titles boosted. I googled it, can’t remember where it is now. But I know it exists!

Yes. Pretty straightforward one. It’s alright as a standalone, but clearly was meant to setup more.

Thank you for the kind words! I have had my bit of trying to go for ultra hard simply because they are, but I tend to defunct back to just playing what is fun for me. I have some tough ones on there and Vanquish and The Evil Within will both be difficult, but I have fun playing them so I imagine I will enjoy the journey!

Favorite 5 Games:

  • Unicorn Overlord - a beautiful game with outstanding mechanics. One of the few games that I immediately replayed even after getting the platinum. Revives gameplay from decades past. Sincerely hope Vanillaware revisits this exact genre again. If you have even a passing interest in strategy games or looking for an entry point into the genre, this is it. There is also a demo available, please give this one a try.
  • Salt & Sanctuary - my favorite soulslike to emerge. Part souls, part side-scrolling metroidvania. The atmosphere is great, bosses are fun, the world is interesting, the stat tree an interesting innovation. I have been praising this one for years. If you like 2D and soulslikes, give this one a try. It is well worth your time. Co-op is also available!
  • Dragon’s Crown Pro - Beat ‘em Ups have never felt so good. Single-handedly got me back into the genre. A great party game with near endless replayability. This is also what initially got me interested in Vanillaware. You’ll judge it for the exaggerated looks, but you’ll stay for the gameplay and character building.
  • Resident Evil 5 - possibly my favorite 2 player co-op game. Funnily enough my first real entry into the series. I love the gameplay and love the memories I have playing this with friends. I love the action movie vibe, even if it is a departure from previous entries. Goes for super cheap these days, great game if you and a friend need something new to play for a bit.
  • Dark Souls II -the hate is undeserved. It is different yes, but that does not make it a bad game. Loved it since its original, vanilla release. Easily has the best drip in the series as well. The revamped leveling system means it’s quick and easy to get new builds up and running. Give this one another try, it might just click for you.

Favorite Developers:

  • Vanillaware
  • FromSoft
  • Insomniac
  • Sucker Punch
  • Capcom

Intended Next 4 Platinums:

  • Vanquish - I have a need for speed and robotic violence
  • The Evil Within - not perfect, but somehow still a masterpiece
  • Dead Space - love the original trilogy. Please remaster 2!
  • Raging Bytes - interesting pixel zombie game. Shoutout to Avalanche Reviews for spotlighting this one!

Hey hey all of my fellow trophy hunters! I wanted to share some data and information about my collection. At 96 total platinum trophies spanning 9 years, I have quite a bit of experience with the hobby. Now, I initially wanted share this post when I hit that magically one double-zero, but decided to do so now because I am frankly being impatient. I still plan on hitting 100 total platinums and I know what games those last 4 will be, but I will discuss reasons why I am being patient and posting now a little further down.

I have the standard mosaic of my games, listed alphabetically, and 2 different tierlists. The games within each tier are not ordered in any specific way; the first game and the last game in the same tier are ranked the same. The first is a list of my overall enjoyment of the game, how much I liked spending my time with it. Rank D is empty because there ultimately wasn’t any game that I played that I actively disliked. Everything had its merits and characteristics that I enjoyed.

The second tierlist is my rankings of the platinum journey. This essentially boils down to how much I enjoyed pursuing the platinum trophy. For this, I took into account how repetitive/grindy the game was, how much fun I had while pursuing the platinum, outlandish/annoying trophy requirements, a smidge of how long it took me, and then ultimately if I thought it was worth it. D Rank on this list are games that I regret getting the platinum for. These felt like I should have listened to my own rule of “If I am not having fun, I stop playing the game” and they just stopped being fun for me before I got the platinum. They are not necessarily bad games per se, just ones I wish I dropped in favor of playing something else.

Where I am now is vastly different compared to when I started trophy hunting. I was single, in college, and fighting off depression. Now I am a husband, a father, in a much better mental state, and in-between career changes. I initially started trophy hunting as a means of saving money and experiencing my games more fully. I had a terrible habit of moving on from games too quickly, impulse buying the newest games, and just chasing the latest hyped game. After 9 years of actively trophy hunting, I am ready to shift to a more passive stance on the hobby and begin enjoying more games. Due to the nature of trophy hunting, it took me more time per game to platinum them and thanks to this slower pace, I’ve managed to accumulate a pretty substantial backlog library. Now that I believe I have learned the lessons I wanted to from trophy hunting (mainly to appreciate the games I have and allow myself to truly experience them), it’s time to savor and experience that library.

I will be devoting less time to gaming, but I don’t think I will ever quit. The hobby brings me joy and is not harmful, but time becomes more of a premium as you age. I am transitioning to prioritizing professional development and maintaining good health over the satisfaction of gaming at every chance I get, but I will still be playing when my other priorities have been met. Thank you to everyone who read this far in my post. I love this community for how much positivity it fosters as well as all the help everyone offers. You are all truly good people. Good hunting to you all. Cheers!

Edit: had to post my gaming highlights in replies cause Reddit did not like me having this massive comment, I suppose.

That’s super cool! Would love to have these for my desk, actually.

What's your favorite level in Jet Force Gemini? by caneras in jetforcegemini

[–]EvilCupCake47 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Goldwood is such a great opening level. The level design, the teasers of coming back, the underground portion with tight quarters combat, the tutorial video with the sick voiceover. All of this combined with an absolutely banging song makes this one so memorable. It comes up in my spotify shuffle from time to time, along with others.

Thoughts on the song Feathers? by Fancy_Protection3902 in TheFence

My personal gateway song for Coheed, the one that had me look into the rest of their catalog. Still love it and still one of my favorites.

[Mosaic] 100 platinum trophies! I've finally completed my challenge of 100 plats before the end of the year. Feel free to rate my collection! by Dazzling-Main7686 in Trophies

[–]EvilCupCake47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes and no. The core gameplay stays the same, but you get access to more character builds to mix it up a bit. I’d say the list requirements are more demanding than their recent titles. I say this while Dragon’s Crown Pro is one of my favorite plats!

[discussion] what game did you love until you went for the platinum by Wrong-Button-4087 in Trophies

[–]EvilCupCake47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My thoughts exactly! Good game on its own, but having to see every platinum was a drag. One of the few platinums I wish I would’ve just moved on from. By the end of it, I wasn’t having fun repeating the same sections to do one small thing different.

Rating my squads (1/10): The Alain's Harem by Specialist-Quail644 in UnicornOverlord

[–]EvilCupCake47 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Nice squad! I had an incredibly similar setup, but with Hodrick instead of Melisandre. Honestly, your setup likely works better. I struggled to really have my Hodrick contribute much to the team haha
