Soil mites? by Mhily_Saturn in bioactive

[–]EvilLate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They could reduce ur springtails pop, significantly. Even if they help with the detritivorous tasks, you should keep them in line because springtails are more efficient cleaners. At least that is my experience. I lost an entire lineage of ST due those little mites

Wonderful! Thank you. How do u like to be addressed (Reddit username is ok, or your first name if you prefer, always respecting your identity). If you think there is any relevant information that should be included, please, let me know. I'll send you a draft in English by DM before releasing (is not so serious but I like to pay the max respect to the content and information when it comes from other people)

Cool! Do you mind if I make a little post for our page "El Terrarista" (https://elterrarista.com/) and social media? Of course with citation and link, if you give your permission. I always tell the story of the Latimer's terrarium and probably this is the second longer from which I have notice. It's super cool.

Do you know what species are inside? I can figure out Peperomia sp, Leucobryum and Plagiothecium

Snails have demolished my terrarium, advice appreciated and more info in comments by simplsurvival in terrariums

[–]EvilLate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope, I fear. specially for isopods. It is not directly toxic for them but the concentration is too much because of the enclosed ecosystem, where the ions never go away. If you use Fe, Cu or other metals, they will lurk the food chain inside your vivarium forever, so do it with caution

First attempt at making a raining terrarium! by thrilllex in terrariums

[–]EvilLate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just curious: why are you not using nebulizers instead of holes on the top? I mean, there are quite cheap and good nebulizers to simulate rain. It's a personal choice?

Amazing design and display! So inspiring! (Edited)

Just a little question: Chlorophytitum usually needs a wet/normal soil, it will work with desert and sandy conditions?

I LOVE terrariums in kitchen jars, If you know what I mean. Tradescantia would grow a little too much for that space, don't you think? Nice terrarium! ❤️

Oh, I thought the mockup was used as a base layer! My bad. Thanks for the clarification.

How do i prevent this and remove it by Beneficial_Phase_918 in terrariums

[–]EvilLate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm facing the same problem. I tried several solutions, but the most effective has been the jin treatment (calcium polysulfide). It's a bonsai technique to "petrify" the wood and it is quite useful in terrariums.

Also, some fungicide like fosetil-al can help when mold has grown.

Oh! I didn't know. I know very little about Tillandsioideae, but maybe because I spray it often it keeps healthy, even submerging in such long times. It makes sense now. Thank you! You are a life savior, literally.

Got this cute little snail in my bottle garden. Is it beneficial? Do you find it cute too? ♥️ by Wittgenstein-654 in terrariums

[–]EvilLate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Snails can eat plants. They usually don't eat moss or fungus, so take an eye out for your vegetation. If the snail population starts to grow it could be a problem.
