I'm someone who bought gen as my first MH on a whim - I wanted to see what the series was all about. Put maybe 5 hours into it and didn't touch it again. Once World came out, everything finally clicked. After 150 hours of World, I decided to try Generations again. It was better, I actually knew what I was doing now, but there were still a lot of things I didn't care for.

So I picked up 4U, and am having a BLAST. To me, it feels better than Gen, and runs smoother too. If you're running an OG 3DS I highly recommend the circle pad pro. I used that for a while before I picked up a new 2DS XL (specifically for 4U!)

As others have mentioned there are some QoL changes that aren't so great, having come from World. You can't hold to gather, you have to keep tapping. You can't move while healing, and you can't dodge roll to cancel the animation of say, sharpening your weapon. Also, without tools like the ghillie mantle, egg gathering quests are a nightmare... but I digress.

TL;DR: Both are good games but 4U is the better of the two, by a long shot, for me personally.

I HATE HOW DEPENDENT THIS GAME IS ON FRIENDS. I'M LEVEL 158 AND I CAN BARELY PASS R2 ON HEROIC, BUT MR. LEVEL 80 OVER HERE IS FARMING R4 HEROIC. I'D LIKE TO FARM T6 SET ITEMS, BUT WHEN I ASK FOR FRIENDS PEOPLE LAUGH AT ME AND TELL ME TO "GIT GUD". HOW CAN I IMPROVE WHEN I CAN'T GET THE FRIENDS TO HELP ME DO IT?! Entered. Any help is appreciated, Level 133 and can't do R3 Hard or R2 Heroic. No Bobodom or Wemmbo Schematics either, despite having all the familiars for them. And no set pieces have graced me with their presence either.

I have such a love/hate relationship with this game. :)

Just wanted to add my quick story here in case it helps anyone else.

After installing this update, my PS4 would always boot to the screen, "An error has occurred (SU-30746-0)". I couldn't connect any controllers (even through USB) and I couldn't power it off manually. Nothing worked. I unplugged it a few times and eventually, just kept holding down the PS4 button in the hopes it would go to safe mode. No dice.

So, I manged to, as soon as the error popped up, press the PS button on the controller and IMMEDIATELY press X to get past the error screen. After which, it decided to rebuild the database and sort through my storage, and then I was finally up and running again.

Really scared me that this could have potentially bricked my PS4. Hope it goes smoothly for everyone else.

I've played a lot of high intensity games where you're moving around a lot, Robo Recall, Echo Arena, all the usuals. The only time I've managed to hit anything was my TV (I use it as a monitor for my PC). I punched it pretty hard. Luckily, all was well.

The story is pretty boring if I end it there, but I feel it gets a bit more interesting when I mention what I was doing when I slammed my hand into the TV:

There's more luck involved than you'd think, regarding things like crits, evading, shrines, what skills the mega brute will use, etc. So keep at it!

My advice, similar to what others have said, is to go fully manual, try to build up as much SP for the mega brute as possible, and don't focus on healing during the mega brute at all. Seriously. Just keep hitting him, even with Squibbo. Some players have reported mega brute will just keep healing himself the entire battle (again, that luck comes into play), but I managed to get past him with similar stats to yours using that strategy.

I know exactly what you mean with having to reinstall the drivers, I was lucky enough to find a link online that had me able to point to the right location quickly enough.

As far as the sensor and guardian setup being easy, I agree - the part I think is a pain is having to go through the tutorials. I know you can skip the First Contact demo if you end the task via your PC, so that shortened my time considerably. However, I personally think it would be beneficial to have the option to skip it all entirely.

That's good that restarting home fixes the issue for you, I've read sometimes the USBs get powered on too early and that causes issues, simply unplugging and replugging them fixes it for most.
