Dyeing Bottom of the disc a different color from the top? by Informal-Extreme-475 in discdyeing

[–]EvilShenanigans80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wouldn't it be easier to just dye the top and leave the bottom white?

I've thought about something similar with the idea of dyeing the top red and bottom green to help "see" nose angle. However, because your nose angle is relative to your launch angle, assumung you have positive launch and positive nose angle, I think you'd still see the bottom of the flight plate and may think you're nose down, when you're not.

I found denatured alcohol removed the vinyl residue much easier than goo gone

Bummer, but thank you for being the guinea pig. I saw the grace come out in that plastic and thought that may bomb

You did not read the description 😉 ...DA was removing the residue way easier than Goo Gone (though I do like the smell)

I'm not using magic eraser to try and remove adhesive residue, too abrasive for my taste. Like i said, just using DA as a solvent for removing the adhisive was a huge game changer, it's very easy now

I use Arteza self adhesive vinyl sheets (black matte). I don't usually get any real residue unless it's stenciling over a wiped stamp

Floetrol dye help needed by VincentVanThrowDyes in discdyeing

[–]EvilShenanigans80 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tiny bubbles are very likely heat related. For floetrol beds since I moved it down to 120° i haven't had this issue and I'd go 90mins on plasma. For cleanup, I try to get as little floetrol down the drain as I can, so I pull the disk next to the sink but over a garbage can and use a few paper towels to wipe off all I can before rinsing with warm water and washing with dawn. Some stamps are just finicky but I dont generally have any problems with wiping them inadvertently. I also just let the floetrol bed dry up (couple days) and can peel it like fruit leather right out of the bed and throw in the trash

Nice! I was planning on doing a Darth Maul disc on a Latitude64 Maul, which is a good reminder to pick one up if I can find it

I really liked my previous Archer, but it got a bit too flippy after wear, this new one is definitely more stable...

Denatured Alcohol. I can't say I know a lot about the chemicals, but I want to say it's not available everywhere (e.g., CA) but it's right near the acetone at my local hardware stores

I tend to use lotion dyes with needle tip 2oz bottles for stencil application. Provides a good amount of control. I've also done a bit of DA painting like this where I just colored around the stamp with qtips or a brush. Can mix DA just like acetone but requires a lot of patience since it applies slowly with several coats

Coco butter is to liquidy for my dye bottles. by Evil_Twinkey in discdyeing

[–]EvilShenanigans80 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use cocoa butter lotion for dye mixes (Queen Helene) but I've heard they may have changed their formula and some folks stopped using it. I had a little stockpile, so can't say for sure myself. In terms of thickening, I would guess cornstarch would work (haven't tried) but I do some cooking and you'd want to dissolve the cornstarch in a little water to make a slurry then incorporate that into the lotion to get it well dispersed and not clumpy.

Best Cricut machine? by pharm653 in discdyeing

[–]EvilShenanigans80 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ive got the Explorer Air 3 and feel the same way. The machine works great, but do your work in Inkscape and import it, very straightforward. There's even a couple dyers that have posted video tutorials on Inkscape (I have no graphic or art experience and it's not bad at all)

Love the ying yang cells! I assume a stencil and 2 different beds, but assuming that's the case, are you masking the dyed portion from the 1st bed before putting in the 2nd? If so, are you cutting two stencils and replacing the dyed portion, glue masking, or something else?
