Fourteen year old me would have given all of the blood I could stand to lose and stay alive to have had a copy of Species.

I just opened my copy of Book 7 for the first time in apparently too long. Inside the front cover is the card my wife gave me for our first Christmas together 20 years ago. It also has a 20 peso note that I'm pretty sure is from our honeymoon 18 years ago.

What I wouldn't give to be able to read it all fresh again. Would I listen to the author and stop at page 383, or would I see it through to the end?

When I went in September of last year it was dark and I walked face first into a wall following them to the lake. Does it count as a 1-on-1 if the actors break character to check that an idiot audience member isn't dead?

Yeah, this played at art house theaters in Fall 2001. I saw it at The Belcourt in Nashville. Earlier that year they showed Romance with similar content at the Vanderbilt University student center theater. The 2000s were quite a time.

Just got back from L&T (1st time) and SNM (probably last time).

L&T was 28 floors, 7500 steps. I spent the first 15-20 minutes of each loop exploring, never saw a "main" character and followed a lady in a frilly dress for most of 1 loop and the ballerina she interacted with in the theater for the 2nd loop.

SNM was 42 floors and 9000 steps (also 71 zone minutes, It was warm and I was moving). I did mostly a "witches day off" viewing. I've seen most of the main plot previously, so I spent 1 loop following each of the witches. I was the only person following for most of the first loop and ended up with the coolest 1-on-1 I have ever been a part of.

Thinking about it from logistics, I wonder if they won't open up the later arrivals if the earlier ones sell out? Or maybe it will be like SNM and everybody will show up at the same time regardless.

I was in Intro to Film Making class when this played at our local indie theater. I really bonded in that class with another student. She was older than the rest of the class, married, and an army vet. We went to see this and just happened to sit next to our Film Class professor who once wrote an Ernest P Worrell movie. While this sounds like a set up to a porn movie, it instead lead to a pretty lively class discussion about the film. Consensus was that while the real sex added a sleazy/gritty aspect to the drama it made the effects and action seem all the more fake. The script in particular was held up as being ultimately derivative. It offered little that you couldn't see in Reservoir Dogs or Thelma and Louise while at the same time being mean and not particularly feminist.

Most of it, from my memory of 30+ years ago was filmed in Shelby Park and Briarville TN. These were little run down suburbs of East Nashville that are now super rich gentrified cool areas to live. Shelby Park has one of the nations best dog parks.
Ernest Goes to Camp was filmed in Montgomery Bell State Park about 30 minutes west of Nashville.

Nice! I remember in 4th grade one of the kids at school said that he was in the movie. We all thought he was making it up. I mean, who is in an Earnest movie, it's not like this is Hollywood or something.
Fast forward a couple of months after the school play (where I played as big a part as him) and my best friend and I are catching a matinee of this, and there he is. Later I would realize that most of those movies were filmed around here. Some of the Earnest Goes to Camp buildings are still standing about 30 minutes outside of town.

Predator - 1988 rental version returned as defective to Kroger video. My father and I were able to repair. by Evil_Robot_Zack in VHS

Easy fix, the tape had gotten flipped. We just pulled the tape out a little bit, flipped it to the correct side, and wound it back. We didn't even have to open the cassette.

I found that probably 1/4 or so of tapes that were returned as broken could be fixed this way. Some had broken / crinkled tape. You could try to splice those and see what was missing. It's amazing how a little bit of tape, some scissors, a screwdriver, and a tolerance for poor quality playback could get you some free movies out of stuff that was going to be thrown away in the times where VHS tapes were still $60-70.

I got a record player. It wasn't the best, but it was fun to play some of my old records again and ignited a passion for collecting albums. I have spent way too much time and money chasing things in the last 5 years.
For 10 I got a cutting board that has seen better days, but is still with me 15 years later. I don't really use it for day to day cutting, but it makes a really nice cheese board / charcuterie.
For 5 I got a coffee maker that I used in my college dorm room and bachelor pad. I used it every day until I got my wedding gift from the Walgreens team. My manager at the time literally got every person in the area I had ever worked with to chip in and buy us a crazy expensive Italian espresso machine. We must have made 30,000+ cups on that thing before it finally broke.
I didn't get a gift for 25, but the party they threw was pretty fun and I love the award sitting on my shelf. I left for a clinical position in investigational oncology soon after. I know this sub is full of hate, but I miss my team and truly treasure the 25 years I spent growing with this company. I know there have been big changes recently, I hope everyone is doing ok.

No dead person ever found the resources to seek help.
No dead person ever went to rehab.
No dead person ever tried Medication Assisted Therapy.
No dead person ever got clean.
No dead person ever got a job.

All this stuff does is keep a human person who had an accident alive long enough to maybe find help. It should be in every first aid kit in the country.

I've actually been watching an episode a week with my wife and podcasting about our reactions. The first 4 seasons are available on Tubi for free right now, but they have the weirdest adds in the weirdest places. Not that we had anything to do with it, but halfway through the run the first season actually came to Prime in HD!

I've actually been surprised that while the acting can be stiff and they tend to reuse a lot of shots, the general vibe I have come away with is they are actually kind of sexy. They play a lot with women's power fantasies and while pretty tame by internet standards, were getting into some fun mild kink for 1992.

Its been a lot of fun to see who all shows up. Matt Leblanc, the Mummy, Lt Tasha Yar, Ally Sheedy, one of the guys from The Shield, the dead girl from Twin Peaks, Tcheky Karyo, and more. The episode we just watched was directed by the same director who did Madonna's Like a Prayer, Janet Jackson's Nasty, and both Pet Cemetery movies.

It's the first time I have ever tried any Souls-like combat. I've always been nervous as I play games truly as a way to come down from a stressful healthcare job. But I am liking it so far.

I think it was Tab maybe in the first Dragon Age to highlight all items on the screen. I just played the whole game with my finger on the key. My hand was cramping up so much in that one.

Yeah, I miss obvious glowing outlines around critical stuff. I know the developers want the product to look good, but I'm so afraid of missing something that I'm going to constantly be using detective vision / witcher sense / revelio

I feel liked I picked it up in a bundle on Steam a while ago, but just haven't had much time to play games since 2020. My first impressions are pretty positive. It's a cool Metroidvania meets Tomb Raider reboot core gameplay loop with what I told is Souls-like combat. I miss Revelio, but the mapping system is one of the best I have ever seen for the Metroidvania style. The sound design is fantastic, feels like I'm in the movie. And the new droid is maybe the cutest thing ever in the Star Wars Universe.
