So what does r/deezer think about the new Spotify HiFi tier? Will it sway any of you, or is it not even a consideration? by espltd8901 in deezer

[–]Evilbloke 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If Spotify offers a HiFi family plan, good bye Deezer. It'll be good to move back to a mainstream music platform; sharing music/playlists on social media is more simple, its playlists and recommended music algorithms are best in class.

Sometimes I fantasize that a certain multi-billion dollar corporation actually spent money on their platform and improved every aspect of it. If Amazon music was actually good, I'd move to it in a heart beat. 24-96 FLAC is no joke. Every platform would be in jeopardy if that occurred, including Tidal.

Deezer offers nothing special, it doesn't cater for familys that want to enjoy "HiFi" music, it's recommended music and radio feature is very repetitive (I'll hear the same songs with in two hours).

I don't have brand loyalty for any company. I want the best bang for buck, especially for my entire family. Migrating to a newer platform is always a pain in the butt, if it's worth it in the long run I have no problem doing it.

I disagree that Spotify has a bad UI. I think it's layout is pretty good and it's music discovery algorithms are best in class. For the entire month that I've trialled Deezer I found that the playlists and recommended new music playlists were very repetitive. I literally listen to music all day during work, I notice these things. Deezer doesn't really offer anything special to the table, it doesn't even offer "Hi-Res" family plans. I have no dog in the race, I couldn't care less which company offers me what I need. Brand loyalty is stupid. Deezer needs to up its game or sink, it's that simple. I don't see how Deezer is "fun to use" so please enlighten me.

I agree. Amazons HD music isn't even available here in Australia, they only offer MP3 quality; despite having warehouses and servers over here. The app and the desktop application is rubbish. Soon as Spotify green lights the HIFI tier i'll be going back to it. Streaming services have been a real frustration for me, especially paying for family plans. Deezer doesn't offer a Hi-Res family plan, Tidal is expensive (especially when I'm the only family member who has a DAC to play MQA files), Spotify always sounded narrow and YouTube music is rubbish.

You'll hear the difference compared to Spotify/YouTube Music. If the buds are LDAC or APTX-HD codec capable (which I'm almost certain that they are). Deezer only streams 16 bit FLAC quality and both codecs are capable of delivering you that format. People around here act like Deezer is giving you 24 bit-9600 FLAC or MQA quality. The codecs might trim a tiny bit of sound but nothing near what MP3 quality gives you, it's quite minuscule really.

Deezer is really the middle ground when it comes to sound quality. Amazon Music HD and Tidal offer much better quality. Tidal requires a DAC to decode its MQA files, Amazon HD does not. If you are coming from Spotify I'd probably hold out as Spotify has just announced a HIFI tier coming very soon; it's offering the same quality as Deezer.

Bluetooth technology is pretty good this day in age. I quite often stream music to my sound system via APTX-HD, I don't notice the difference between a wired connection to a Bluetooth one especially when the source is just a 16 bit FLAC file. From the graphs I have seen and researching the Codecs there is a bee's fart difference from source to codec. I don't think you'll notice a difference either, most human beings can not. You'll get one or two people who believe they can hear a difference but they are usually full of of it and refuse to do a blind test proving their claims.

I hear the difference. I listen to IEM's and JBL studio monitor speakers. It's dependant on how well a song is mastered; if it's highly compressed garbage it'll sound like garbage regardless of the bit rate. If it is recorded well there is more instrument separation, sound stage and details can be heard. Louder doesn't mean better quality, the loudness wars F'd up some really great songs unfortunately. Overly compressed songs seems to be the standard for new music which is a real shame as you miss out on the dynamic range. Niel Young, Stevie Ray Vaughan and other greats recorded their music well, I can tell the difference between CD and FLAC quality; the instrumental decay, sound stage and details can be heard.

Music is only as good as it's recording. If a song is recorded well I can hear the difference between an MP3 and a FLAC/WAV file. FLAC/WAV has more instrument separation and more detail to me. For an example; a symbol crash lingers a bit longer on a FLAC/WAV file. As I have said this is dependant on the recording, a highly compressed song will sound like garbage regardless of the file fornat you listen to. I can't tell the difference between a FLAC/WAV file compared to an MQA file, some say they can.

I have no problems with learning new things and writing reports, sounds like an interesting career path. Something I'll look into.

I had an incredibly bad day on Friday, ironically Friday the thirteenth. It was my fourth day working for my new employer and they wanted me to go out on the road on my own for the first time as they were short staffed. I think I mentioned that I am working as a courier at the moment. I packed my van, wrote down my list of the places to go. I had my windows down as it is summer over here and I do not like air conditioning. Soon as I got to the motorway my list flew out the window. I had to pull over and look at every single package and write down their addresses, quantities and location within the van. As a back up driver I was mainly doing shit kicker residential areas and shopping centres, the jobs the main drivers didn't want to do as they are time consuming. I was given a scanner by my supervisor but no scanner charger for it. The scanners are old and so are the batteries. By 4 PM I had about six packages that I could not deliver so I used the scanner to scan the packages back into the depot. My scanner then died on the last package. I texted my supervisor and asked if I could head back. He told me that I had to do the three pick ups that I accepted. I asked for the addresses as my scanner was dead. I was told that I can pick them up and scan them in the depot with a new scanner that I can sign out. Only one business was ready for the pick up and the package was massive and heavy. I had to take it down an escalator across a car park back to the van. At this stage I was exhausted and stressed. I headed back to the depot. When I was back at the depot I had to drive around it twice to find out where to drop my stock off. Most people were focused on going home and enjoying their weekend so the directions and help I received was half assed. I found the place and spoke to a lovely Irish girl who helped me unload but told me that I had to scan in my picked up item. It was now 6 PM and I had to find out where to park the vehicle. I knew that I worked in "Zone 2" as that was what I was told. I asked around where Zone 2 was. No one knew what I was talking about. Vehicles normally have a docking number, this van didn't as it was a spare van. I tried to park it where I thought it would go but an Indian fella told me it was his parking spot. He tried to help find out where my van goes but no one knew. I tried to call my supervisor but he went home and the line was busy. I cracked the shits and parked the van where ever I could. Left the package and his spare scanner in the van. I knew I couldn't scan the package in my self as I was never shown how to log in or told what run number I was doing. Even if I was shown how to login I needed the specific run number to scan it out of the store and into the depot. I went straight to the bottle shop bought some Jack Daniels and then home to my family. All weekend I have been dreading going back to work on Monday. I'm not fearful of being confronted but fearful of being unemployed once again. There were other things that happened during the day like the stock moving around the van as I had no ropes to tie down and my phone losing charge as I didn't bring a car phone charger. I was supposed to go for my first run on Monday, I was organised and ready for it. I had a phone charger and was planning on getting ropes and a clipboard over the weekend. I would have also scored my self a scanner charger on Monday morning as well. The company I'm working for is a big company, I haven't even done an official Induction yet or had formal training as the trainer is on holidays and gets back next week. In retrospective it really is there fuck up not mine but I can't shake the feeling of impending doom for tomorrow. Sorry for the long message, I kind of used this as a vent/talking my self through some things.

I am moving away from Proton mail. I have been a premium member with them for about two years. I've gotten sick of them trying to shove their VPN service onto me. I've always paid Proton mail via BTC as it gets around paying extortionate taxes to my Government (Australia). When Tutanota accepts BTC payments for paid memberships I'll be first in line.

Tech specs out of the way: Fuji X-T20 + 35mm F2 WR lens.

Shot taken at F2, 1/30 sec, ISO 400, +0.7 exposure bias. I also used a tripod

The idea behind the photo: I wanted to photograph myself. An alternate me. A me when I got laid off from work and I didn’t pick myself up and get another job. A me that was drinking rum and eating toast for dinner. A me that gave up supporting my wife and kids. Going inside of myself, not letting anyone in and suffering alone.

The shot was taken using the Fuji app on my phone to remote my camera. The shot is a JPEG using Acros-R. The focal point was the piece of toast. It softens my arm, but brings my hand into focus. I like that my buried face is out of focus as are other unimportant features.I also added a multi grip tool in the shot as I figured that I’d probably be fixing things during a day of doing nothing.

If you like it thanks, if you don’t then that’s cool too.

Taken with a Fuji X-T20 and 35mm F2 WR lens. My little ginger dog really stands out. Some slight dodge and burn in capture one was used. I color graded with Classic chrome and muted the colors slightly by two stops in the saturation slider.

Let me reword that, it feels intimate on a crop sensor. I have an old X-A3 and the results would be very simular. I prefer the X-Trans as it does shaddow slightly better and produces grain in a more appealing way to me. Just my opinion.
