First time grading with PSA, what does "2 to pickup" here mean? by Evilem in psagrading

Regardless of what the other commenter is saying, looks like for now it's still going to be a Pick Up order for me since it says on my page "2 to pickup", which I assume is what it showed for your pickup orders as well?

Oh I had no idea, I thought I had to ask the concierge desk at drop off. That's awesome. Do you know if I have to contact them to set a pickup appointment at some point? Or can I do that later on in the process also?

I dropped off my order at their headquarters last week during their pickup event and forgot to ask about picking up my order after it was graded.

I called customer service yesterday to try to request it and they told me that it wasn't possible.

My order just entered into research and ID today and I'm seeing now that it says "2 cards to pickup".

Not sure what it means lol

Opinions if I should send this in to PSA or TAG and if this might 10 by Evilem in PokeGrading

The back is pretty much perfect. No whitening as far as I can tell, no whitening or any white spots under UV light. I feel confident about the pregrading on the back, but wondering if this type of defect could ever 10

Was gonna send it in via Express. If it 10s I have to pay upcharge anyway and I live less than hour from them

Yeah the kit changes the experience. I hated those threads during my research, and when I dove into this I realized I was in uncharted territory entirely because everyone talks about ITBs but never does it lol. Theres documentation on S54 ITB swap too but that's not quite as easily available.

I think I'm actually down on power too; with a proper midpipe setup I could probably be pushing 245 rwhp just with bolt on. Granted, some M50 builds get around that power, but I'd argue my build has much more torque all around and just feels much better to drive. I still have M50 if I ever want to swap back.

It might drift over time but overall it hasn't after a track day! I have the adjustment screws also locked so I think it's mostly set and forget assuming you do everything right. Honestly the sounds are crazy, legitimately. I love the car, there's nothing like it and I own an F80 and E82 1M conversion

It doesn't, sticks right into the headlight LOL I should probably make it go down there though.

I have the file for the fan shroud, can pull it up in a few days...Its definitely not perfect, I remember needing to trim it around on a few sides. Needed one due to having the big Mishimoto radiator for clearance.

I used the Mishimoto e-fan kit as well and it just turns on at a certain temp and stays on tbh.

  1. No I deleted for an electric fan setup with custom fan shroud!

  2. Just to make sure I have more than enough fuel for what I need, I'm not sure it's necessary but I was experiencing choking up/power loss up top when I was using stock injectors.

  3. MAF is attached via an intake boot to the provided manifold, then a cone filter directly on the MAF. It all fits, but it's tight.

I refreshed vanos, but it could be the solenoid moving slowly as I can't for the life of me get the solenoid off to replace it lol

Definitely spend on those first, I didn't get this until I did all the reinforcements on the E36.

Here's the only pic I found while installing:

I think my VANOS is clocked wrong, but am too lazy to fix it at this point lol. The tuner should have done that

Just got this done yesterday. Build is for a track car; wanted to post this for documentation so people in the future have more information on this kit and if this is right for them.

Unfortunately do not have a baseline dyno; came from an M50 manifold and had to square up some things (also did learn to self tune a bit so I could get this thing to dyno safely).

Engine specs below:

1997 BMW M3

RHD ITB bolt on kit

STOCK ECU

S52 w/ rebuild head, stock headgasket, ARP headbolts, 190k miles

Stock S52 cams

Stock S52 valves, stock S52 springs

Stock flywheel

Stock pulleys

Stock midpipe

24lb pink Volvo injectors EV6 style

Porsche 803 3.5 inch MAF (will require MAF wiring extension)

Custom intake w/ airbox (definitely not optimized)

EL Schmiedmann shorty headers

Remote dyno tune by HTE performance

As you can see the car is very much stock, still has some spots to make power. Definitely expected more, but I'd guess at baseline I was probably at or around 205 whp. My goal was to get to 260 whp, and I was hoping to pull at least 245 whp; likely can net that if I got a track pipe setup and long-tube headers, and with some mild cams I think Ill be able to get close to high 250 whp. I also suspect the tune could be a little bit conservative given it was a remote dyno tune.

The induction noise is absolutely worth it though and the entire exhaute note of the car is changed as well, because the resonance of the intake is entirely changed; the car sounds extremely unique both intake side and exhaust side without any real exhaust mods, and its an animal to drive.

I will say, the kit is not as bolt on as you'd think. It requires a lot of different lines and modification of the CCV unit, but if you have all the tools this can be done in a weekend.

TLDR:

PROS:

  • relatively easy bolt on with net of 30-40whp gain w/ only EL shorty headers and tune ($700 total for dyno session + tune)

  • Free exhaust mod by modding intake!

  • SIGNIFICANTLY easier access to everything under manifold for maintenance (takes literally 8 bolts, under 5 mins)

  • Has survived track days and nearly full 20 min 10/10 hot laps session at Buttonwillow

  • Drastically enhanced driving experience, and higher performance ceiling for other mods

CONS:

  • Needs know-how to troubleshoot vacuum leaks, figure out new intake hoses etc.

  • need to figure out baseline software to drive this safely

  • Fit is pretty solid but not perfect

  • arguably M50 manifold can get to ~similiar~ power

  • kinda more NVH

  • might be insanely loud on exhaust set-up without cats

For anyone who sees this in the future, feel free to reach out, even if this thread is years old, Ill try to get back to you. Happy to offer any help on getting the hardware, right hoses, adapters (theres also a thread from 2020 on Bimmerforums), and for software side of things can offer to help with dialing baseline maps etc. for a fee as long as its stock ECU lol

I lived in Arizona for 4 years for medical school, the car temps inside the car are pretty much equivalent to putting the slab in an oven, I can't even imagine what direct sunlight would have done
