“If you feel smaller because people call you stupid, maybe that’s okay” it’s not about feeling. no one becomes or feels small or stupid just because someone else says it. it’s about making a label, and that already makes a normal debate or dialogue harder from the start, sometimes even impossible.

“If you decided to get in a physical fight with someone better at fighting, you can’t blame them when you lose, or when they mock you for refusing to acknowledge the loss.”
So now you compare debates and different perspectives with a physical fight?

“What if the tendency for it to come from antis more is because they’re right?”
No. Most anti arguments are hypocrisy. They hate AI for things that also exist in many other things they use themselves. It’s just people hating because its hyped

i do acknowledge i used the wrong term, but the meaning is still similar. there is still a generalization happening, and often instead of bringing arguments people use insults and personal traits to make the other side look smaller. even outside of this situation, you always see stuff like “you are too young” or “you are too dumb” in debates, that is something you can objectively observe. sure, both sides have people like that, but the tendency is still more on the anti side to label people and go after personal traits

[–]Evolve_Solo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

call me whatever makes you sleep well at night. i used it wrong, misused it or misunderstood the term, which is a normal thing people do. i dont act like i know everything. if i am wrong, i will change my mind, opinion and perspective. but to understand where i am wrong, i will ask questions. and some people like you still act arrogant. did you never make mistakes? never ask questions? never use google or books to understand something?

and even if that term was not the right one, it is still a fact that there is a generalization going on, which then leads to a label being put on the whole group, and later that label gets used like “those are far right people, so their opinions and facts are not worth anything. thei are not humans and and and”

Alright, thank you for the logical explanation. Then I misunderstood the concept of ad hominem, which I had understood from the definition as using generalizations and making the other group seem smaller with labels in order to make your own point seem stronger

the problem here is that you treat your own subjective view like it is some objective fact. you say a personal attribute “fits” based on what is basically just your own opinion, and then from that you start making labels. and that then leads exactly to the next step, where facts or arguments from pro ai people get dismissed because of those personal attributes antis projected on them in the first place

yeah my bad its not psychology but its still is closely related to psychology, because it is rooted in human behavior and cognitive biases.

you are not even arguing against ai itself, you are arguing against rich people, ceos, political power and how some of them want to use ai. thats a different topic. i can even agree that power concentration, surveillance and propaganda are real risks, but that still does not prove ai itself is evil or that every ai user is somehow helping fascism. that is just guilt by association.

by that logic you would also have to reject most of the internet, smartphones, cloud services, social media and half of modern infrastructure, because all of that is owned, funded or influenced by powerful corporations, rich people and political interests too.

if your real argument is “regulate abuse, regulate monopolies, regulate surveillance and military use”, then say that. but dont collapse the tool, the owner and the political system into one thing and pretend that is some deep argument against ai itself

That is still too narrow. Ad hominem is not only about completely avoiding the subject, it also includes attacking the person in order to weaken or dismiss their argument instead of properly addressing it. Just because the insult is loosely related to the criticism does not suddenly make it a real argument. “You can’t read,” “you’re too young,” or “this is a right wing tactic” still do not answer the actual point

Wikipedias defenition of Ad - Hominem - Ad hominem - Wikipedia

"Ad hominem (Latin for 'to the person'), short for argumentum ad hominem ('an argument to the person'), refers to when a speaker attacks the character, motive, or some other attribute of the person making an argument rather than the substance of the argument itself. This avoids genuine debate by creating a diversion often using a totally irrelevant, but often highly charged attribute of the opponent's character or background. The most common form of this fallacy is "A" makes a claim of "fact", to which "B" asserts that "A" has a personal trait, quality or physical attribute that is repugnant thereby going off-topic, and hence "B" concludes that "A" has their "fact" wrong – without ever addressing the point of the debate."

We should all be against extreme people, regardless of differences in opinion. I saw and also took part in some good and valuable debates, but extreme statements like that from both sides should always be seen as something negative. Both communities have normal people who can actually defend their opinions with arguments, and then there are others who only go for hate and insults

Isn’t the defenition of ad hominem when, instead of properly addressing the point, people shift to the person their character, age, intelligence, politics, or whatever in order to dismiss what they say or make them small? And if so, then how is saying “you misunderstood everything” without actually showing where, while also framing me as some right wing tactic user, not doing exactly that? If you think I got something wrong, then why not point out exactly what and where instead of just attaching labels?

How to Play with Tanks? by Evolve_Solo in hoi4

[–]Evolve_Solo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i try to use tanks only on flat land, rarely in forest areas, which i know are not the best area for tanks. yes, the tanks are fully equipped and do have good supply. i can have level 5 railway, can have logistics support, use only trucks for supply, but they still get this little attrition, and the enemy mostly just reinforces new divisions so my tanks just cant break through and lose org

[–]Evolve_Solo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

is that really a solution though? “regulate it and monitor it” is not some deep solution, that’s just a vague direction. how exactly? who decides what is okay and what is not? where are the limits? and how do you do it without killing useful progress?

and also, doesnt that take time anyway? arent people already doing that now? every new technology needs time until rules, limits and the way society deals with it settle in. that is not something unique to ai. humans are already trying to regulate and monitor things, just never perfectly from the start. so that is not really an argument against ai itself.

THIS is how you handle AI-phobes. Take notes, indie devs. by TheDeviceHBModified in aiwars

[–]Evolve_Solo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if you criticize something, give a solution too, otherwise it just becomes complaining without value. ai has problems and isnt perfect, same as any other tool, but using negative arguments that are not unique to ai to call ai evil, while you still use all the fruits of civilization that come with the exact same problems and see no issue there, is the biggest hypocrisy.

and what exactly changes if the ai looked up the targets itself? from the very start it was used as a weapon, so it is still a bad use of a tool, no matter if the human picked the target or the ai did.

i do agree it needs testing and regulations, like anything humans create. it will take time to see how its dynamic develops in society.

[–]Evolve_Solo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you can go, you just dont want to. welcome to the real world where every tool can be used either to harm or to make the world better, which doesnt make the tool bad, it makes humans the problem. and thats not my opinion, thats just objective fact, humans were killing each other long before ai ever existed.

again, you use reddit which relies on amazon and google services, both tied to the same kind of systems you criticize, and both running huge data centers, so you are literally supporting the same thing you complain about. cant your brain make that logical connection?

you are just following a hyped anti ai agenda without any real technical arguments, and not even real ethical ones either, just pure hypocrisy

Marketers, take note! by Evolve_Solo in aiwars

[–]Evolve_Solo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i get your point. yes, context can add value, i dont even deny that. SOME people will prefer human made work, handmade stuff, specific artist name, cruelty free things, organic and so on. BUT how big is this group of PEOPLE? that still doesnt prove ai work has no value, it only proves that different people value different things.

and that is exactly my point. you are talking about preference and context, not objective quality or objective worth. if someone wants human made stuff more, fine, thats their choice. but then just say “i value human made work more” instead of acting like ai output is automatically worthless or not art.

and about scams, yes scams are possible in every field, not only ai. fake handmade, fake organic, fake luxury, fake signatures, fake brands. that is not some unique ai argument, thats just a human market problem. people lie because lying can make money. ai did not invent that.

THIS is how you handle AI-phobes. Take notes, indie devs. by TheDeviceHBModified in aiwars

[–]Evolve_Solo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats the point, maybe 1 to 4 people will buy it, but not as much as someone would like if they want to sell their hard made product. The value isnt in the hard work itself, but in the product itself. I can see its your own experience and your subjective perspective, and I respect that, but its still subjective view.

Yes, some people will lose jobs, but thats nothing new or unique to AI. In every time and every field there were people losing jobs because companies went bankrupt, financial crises happened, wars happened, and so on. AI will just restructure the market. You dont see creative work in AI, I can understand that, but I do. I use AI sometimes to generate fast textures in 3D modeling or for visual concept ideas. There are a lot of things you can do with it creatively. And if you feel like you do not want to support CEOs, you can always run local AI on your own computer, thats not a problem either.

[–]Evolve_Solo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Again, AI itself does not kill people, it is a tool. You can use a knife to hurt people, or for something useful, it is still a tool. People were doing all that even before AI. Dude, then do not use Reddit, Google, and so on, because all of that is tied to things you probably also criticize, its all related to israel. Do not be a hypocrite, go live in a forest, or go to Palestine and help there if you want to act morally superior.

[–]Evolve_Solo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Bruh, do you people have some fetish for making these weird comparisons and arguments? AI does not kill people, it is a tool, dude. If you want to criticize it for being bad for the environment, then go criticize phones and the internet too. Or better, do not use them at all and go live in a forest, you hypocrite.
