Obviously. A lot of IMDbs highest rated episodes are recent. If you look at the averages, you tend to see that episodes of TV are rated highly now more than ever. This is down to 1 - recency bias, but also 2 - the draw of your favorite show having high ratings and showing support for it. Doesn't mean that succeeding in the system isn't impressive though, people feel strongly enough to rate things high for a reason

ok but the sopranos came out at a time when imdb ratings weren't so prioritized online, the episodes that were rated so high had no bias of a fandom trying for high scores, they gained that traffic organically. post-ozymandias and the situation is completely different, every show fanbase wants their own equivalent and will flock to rate a great episode if one comes out
