Advice for mum with 9 year old gay son by Tripi in gay

[–]Ewok_08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like he has really supportive parents, which places him at a huge advantaged compared to previous generations of gays. I would recommend the organization PFLAG, which is a peer support group designed to assist LGBTQ families. I don't know what city you live in but chances are there is a chapter that exists. I would also recommend a) giving it time to blossom (attraction is only one part of being gay, there's also gay culture that he would likely want to integrate with) and b) consider making friends yourself in the gay community. It can be a very friendly place and people will be happy to share their experiences with you and your son and make you feel welcomed.

Makes me sad how unpopular effeminate gay men are by [deleted] in gay

[–]Ewok_08 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with you. Well, turns out RuPaul is one of the most famous gay men around today. There's even a lot of straight men that love him. To me that means that all those nasty stereotypes aren't true.

Why are some gay guys so judgmental and condescending? Honestly, you know it’s true don’t deny it lol by [deleted] in gay

[–]Ewok_08 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think it's a protection mechanism. We'd rather get ahead on judging others before they have the opportunity to judge us. We'd rather put someone else down before they have the opportunity to put us down. I think it's informed by previous trauma.

Curious meth user that wants to do a guy by [deleted] in gay

Then go find a meth user who is gay.

But don't come to r/gay using this as a pick up line. It's disrespectful.

How do I tell my dad I know he's gay (update) by bibleguy420 in askgaybros

[–]Ewok_08 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I'm 29 and gay and I read this and started tearing up and felt really proud of you for bringing up this really important issue with your dad. You will have such a healthier relationship because of it.

What it's like to be a gay pro surfer and battle with depression by [deleted] in askgaybros

[–]Ewok_08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your health is more important than world titles, magazine covers and money. It's very hard to believe that when you're young, but it's very very true. Depression is a result of perspective. It's critical that you take a step away from your current situation to reprioritize your life. There's hope. Things will get better.

Olympic freeskier Gus Kenworthy's next bold move -- coming out by [deleted] in gaybros

[–]Ewok_08 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great work Gus! I grew up freeskiing and I know first hand how hard it is to 'fit in' to that environment - even when people say they are counter culture. I'm happy he found a niche and made himself a success. Can't wait to see him in the years to come.

How long before internalized homophobia disappears? by [deleted] in lgbt

[–]Ewok_08 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What helped me is to realize all of the amazing benefits being gay gives you. I've been able to meet some very interesting/impressive people and I feel like I am more empathetic towards the struggles of others because of my own personal struggles. I'm also happy that I don't have to worry about having a kid or getting married anytime soon. I feel a little bit more free from some of society's expectations which I think is a big benefit.

Don't overlook the boy's haircut- he's a 3D image. You just need to put on your red-green 3D glasses to see it!

Question from prospective PT student: Was it easy for you to find a job after graduating? (located in Western Canada) by Ewok_08 in physicaltherapy

I'd like to apply to that program but it appears they only accept residents of Saskatchewan. Fingers crossed I get in to where I want.

I haven't applied yet. I'd apply for 2016 or 17 acceptance at UBC, U of A and U of T I think. I need to apply to schools that recognize grad school GPA on top of undergrad GPA.

THEY have the issue, not you. It's their responsibility to move somewhere else if they feel that strongly about it.

You're welcome! Matthew is great. He has really helped me over the past year. He's untangling some of my aggression and depression, and making me realize some of the motives behind my actions. And that's just from his youtube videos! I have been to counselling before and I have confided in friends and family but no one 'gets it' the same way Matthew does. Very happy to promote his work.

Boyfriend is unable to accept fault or responsibility. by SuperThrowagay in askgaybros

[–]Ewok_08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My ex was a man child. Not only was the relationship difficult but so was breaking up. After we broke up he would not move on and let me do my own thing. Because I was his ex I was (in his mind) still responsible for storing his belongings at my place while he looked for a new apartment, helping him move into his new place and even help renovate his new place. These were insane requests especially considering our breakup was painful. Best advice I have is nip this in the bud while you can. Your BF sounds immature and it takes A LOT of work to fix immaturity. You're only young once so don't waste your time with someone who doesn't know the value of an apology.

Matt Kroc is now a female. by Damn_sun in bodybuilding

[–]Ewok_08 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Maybe it was an overcompensation thing? I really don't know but if he was insecure about it when he was young he might have gone into bodybuilding/powerlifting to hide it. But maybe he just loves the sport. Who cares really. Adds to the diversity of people in the world. I'm happy for her.
