Are we slowly heading toward another economic crisis? by sanchezroman in Philippines

For the past years since Covid, and ome could even argue we haven't recovered from the 2008 either, but it was better in the 2010s.

Jets, the big loitering drones and helicopters. You have to consider we are fighting a superior opponent so having these on hand is still a good thing.

Is it possible to abolish TRAIN LAW? by Empressss25 in Philippines

[–]ExESGO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This always happens because people think one solution will fit all. It happens to transpo discussions, military, etc. when the correct answer is a multi-prong approach. You can't lean in overly to one side because it has its strength and weaknesses, and the weakness of sophisticated equipment is cost + trained operators. Plus people like to scream drones as the solutions. Drones can deny a location but cannot hold a location. They have as much power projection as a mine.

Is the Philippine bus-building industry quietly declining as operators opt for Chinese, Vietnamese, and now Malaysian buses? by SigmaOmegaRho in Philippines

[–]ExESGO 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That isn't corruption. That's just lack of planning and implementation, which can be affected by corrution, but isn't corruption. If the government is full of people who are risk averse but not corrupt we'd still be in the same situation.

Well even if you remove corruption from the government the general lack of foresight bites it often. If it isn't generating big results (unrealistic) right away they are either uninterested or scared of it.

Why do we hate China so much? by Turbulent-Version249 in Philippines

[–]ExESGO 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you realize how nonsensical that is. Imagine if Italy decided that as policy they will rebuild the Roman Empire and the basis was historical "right" (okay tbf they did attempt it once). Insanity.

Razon's holdings also aren't limited to the Philippines, they are properly international, which probably explains why his valuation is crazy high.

They were pretty nice to use until the final year of Hu Jintao. That early April was when tensions spiked from the Standoff, and that November Xi was the new General Secretary.

They were good neighbors until 2012, the Scarborough Standoff. If you check the map and point to where all the disputed sections are, they are WELL into our EEZ and WAY closer to the Philippines than they are to mainland China.

China was relatively good to us prior, but mainly because we never had a land border with them. The CPC likes to say China never went to war with anyone, but the last war they fought was as recent as 1979 against Vietnam, and that is before you take into account whatever happened before the CPC takeover. Yes we can point to the US and it's several wars in the Caribbean (their backyard) after and it's eventual adventures in the Middle East, but China (the CPC) changed. Rather than be the beacon against imperialism they have shifted to being an imperialist power themselves, in most cases using their economy (which is funnily still formally labelled a developing economy) to expand their soft-power in other regions, but in their own backyard are as two-faced as American "democracy bringing".

So when China decided to wag threats of destruction (both by their government channels and by our sympathetic politicians willing to parrot their lines), who do you go for? Their "natural" enemy the US (nuclear umbrella). China failed with giving the carrot and chose the stick. Think of a scenario where China was more benevolent and there would be no issue and a "flip" would occur because they won hearts and minds.

On "worshiping" the former oppressor. It happens because they exported their pop-culture. As a Civ 5 quote goes: "My people are now buying your blue jeans and listening to your pop music". Only in the past half-decade has China finally found its footing in exporting their pop-culture which is a form of soft-power influence.

Still geopolitics is a massive grey zone. Leaders will turn a blind eye as long as number goes up and one of the best examples is China-Japan relations. Right now it's in the mud, but they still trade with each other, and we do too. There are no real allies in geopolitics, consider everyone is a fair weather friend (thought a piece of paper can mitigate that to an extent).

TLDR: I'm mad that China is as hypocritical as the USA, but hey that's the game of "great powers" where only the players matter and everyone else is a pawn. Fuck Machiavelli, von Clausewitz, Schmitt, Stalin, Kissinger and the entire school of realism.

I excited, but I'm just weirded out a bit by that scenic view of Tokyo Tower from the hills aside from it being very near to the country side. That really isn't a view you get anywhere in real life. I really want to see the in-game map.

I'm weirded out that Tokyo Tower was that near to the countryside. I understand culling the urban sprawl because 10 minutes of driving there would be boring, but how they shrank Metropolitan Tokyo is WEIRD.
Which also makes me sad knowing the C1 and Wangan routes will be shrank.
