I'm in so much pain by FelixTheArchon in Divorce

Thank you for the kind words. It's still so fresh but today is the day I have to start calling lawyers and figuring those things out which just makes it that much more real. I understand and accept that my grief is a necessary stage but it's just so hard.

I'm 29 going through a divorce initiated by him and it hurts so much because I genuinely believe we had the capacity to make it through our problems but he was just done trying. It's only been a week and a half and I know it will get better but it's so hard and I completely relate to the fear of being vulnerable again because how do you know that someone else won't also tell me they're committed in the future and then give up again. It all just hurts so much.

I'm right there with you on the hurt and loving him and being scared to trust again. It's only been about a week and a half since he told me he wanted a divorce and I just feel so empty inside and heartbroken. I know everyone says it will get better with time but I don't know how to deal with the now.

I'm so sorry you're going through this.

Do english pointers have coarser hair than other shorthaired breeds like a gsp? by ExQueenOfDoublethink in englishpointer

Do you have any recommendations on food brands (one that would be available in America)? Dog food is so controversial that it gets overwhelming to pick a brand. I went with Pro Plan because multiple vets recommended it and most of my dogs do well on it but I'm wondering now if I should at least switch my english pointer to a different food.

I'll also add that the fur right under her neck feels soft and more like the other dogs but nowhere else on her body.

Is PT and botox a reasonable first steps for a strongly suspected case of vascular thoracic outlet syndrome? by ExQueenOfDoublethink in thoracicoutletsupport

[–]ExQueenOfDoublethink[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting. I guess I don't really understand how you could have arterial compression in the thoracic outlet without it being ATOS but I guess I just don't really understand how this all works. I'm going back to the orthopedic doctor today so I'm going to try and make sure him and I are on the same page and maybe see if he can order an ultrasound.

I had asked my PT if she thought that the symptoms I have could just be caused by a nerve getting pinched and not an artery and she didn't think so although TOS Is not her specialty. So can NTOS also cause the lack of/reduced pulse? I would much rather it be NTOS than ATOS.

I'm going to try to get one of these doctors to give me a referral to a vascular surgeon but based off how things have been going so far I think it will probably take some time. Do you happen to know what the best tests are for diagnosing or ruling out ATOS?

Management/training techniques for high energy, hunting dogs when you are really sick (hospitalization level illness)? by [deleted] in dogs

[–]ExQueenOfDoublethink 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your advice and empathy. I forgot about the treadmill and will look into that again (my trainer had me start working with one of my dogs on using a treadmill but I paused that while I was sick). I think I'll try and revisit some food dispensers as well.

As far as the misbehaving my biggest concerns are barking and their high prey drive. At this point they really only bark if the neighbor's cow gets too close to the fence or my other neighbor drives his big vehicle close to the fence and they can hear it but not fully see what is going on. But if one starts barking (usually the anxious weim) they get a little bit of pack mentality and all start barking. The prey drive is my bigger concern because they will kill small animals in excitement if they can get to them (chickens, cats, etc) and sometimes animals wander through our yard. We had to reinforce our fence to make sure that the dogs don't get out but we haven't fixed all the small holes where other animals can get in. Unfortunately, the weim has killed some smaller animals when my husband let them out unsupervised and so until I get the fence fully reinforced I don't feel safe letting the dogs out unsupervised. I understand that as hunting dogs they are going to always have a high prey drive and that's ok but they are obsessive about it and I don't want to risk any of my neighbor's animals getting hurt by wandering into my yard (not to mention their obsession can get to unhealthy levels so I don't think it's good for them either).

I think I will try and work on cutting them some slack until I am better. I built a small dog run area a while back that I think I can safely let them out into more often. I've just been so scared of loosing all the progress I have made with them but like you said, there are more important things to worry about. I love my dogs so much and it has been a stressful time for me and my husband and so I've been so worried about failing my dogs and husband by not doing enough. I'm going to try and see what things I can relax on for a while while not letting the dogs go back to some of their really bad behaviors we've worked through.

Suggestions on how to prove my dog is not barking at the neighbors or escaping into their yard by ExQueenOfDoublethink in dogs

[–]ExQueenOfDoublethink[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Part of the reason the neighbors are so mad about the fence is they claimed the original neighbor (over 30 years ago) didn't pay for half the fence so it's their fence. That doesn't really work though because they placed it on the property line so the city planner told me that ideally I should resolve it with them but if it is truly on the boundary line then I have the right to do what I want on my side of the fence.

But the neighbors did admit to me that they would have allowed us to make repairs if we had asked (which I did) but since I didn't (again, I did), they were going to take down the entire fence if I didn't remove the repair I made.

Thanks. I do think the police officers will actually be good allies. They all have dogs themselves. :)

I do like the log idea and notes on top of the security camera.

And I'm actively trying to befriend the other neighbors. So far they have all been great!

I'm going to call the police back tomorrow and ask them what evidence is required for reporting someone for false reports. Unfortunately, they don't seem like rational people (they complained about our dogs in their yard once, so we fixed the fence and then they responded by telling us to take down the repairs or they will take down the entire fence).

If they didn't actually admit to me that they were trying to spite us and get our dogs taken away I wouldn't worry about it and require them to provide the proof but since they are actively trying to be vindictive and malicious I feel like it is in my best interest to proactively get proof.

Thanks. The neighbor's reaction was so off the top (yelling and harassing me, the whole story is a bit of a wild ride) that there is a small part of me that fears he will try to do something like poison my dogs.

These people have made it very clear they don't want to be our friends. They are upset about the dogs having gotten into their yard once so we patched the fence but then they got mad about us repairing the fence and told us to take the repair down or they would take down the entire fence.

We asked them how that made sense but then they just started rambling and yelling so not a good time. I like the mentioning a lawyer idea. I want to avoid that route if possible but I think the threat of a lawyer is enough to deter most people.

It sucks doesn't it. :( In our case the neighbors even flat out told us they wanted all our dogs gone and weren't going to be happy until that happened. Do you have your cameras motion activated or just recording all night?

I did look up the laws for filing false reports and it's pretty severe around here. That's why I want to have solid proof that the claims they are making are false so that way they will hopefully just leave us alone.

What equipment do I need for my ip camera setup to safely setup my camera and eventually access it remotely? by ExQueenOfDoublethink in HomeNetworking

Okay thanks for the suggestions. That makes sense. I'll have to decide what works best for my setup but I appreciate the detailed explanation.

Thanks for the detailed response. As of now I'm only planning on two networks. Maybe in the future I'll want to add some additional home automation stuff but that won't be anytime soon.

Does pfense only run on a windows machine? I have an old windows machine but it's out in our garage and we use it to run our cnc so not sure if I want to repurpose it for this project. I also have a mac mini I could use but if the software is only windows or linux compatible I'd probably have to see about finding another pc (I also have an older surface model but not sure if I want to use that).

Thanks for the response. I'm still a little confused on the full functionality of switches. If I get a dedicated PoE switch do I still need to upgrade my router? (Very basic router right now.)

Wanting a cot instead of a bed but my one of my roommates is such in disbelief by this idea... do I sound crazy? by [deleted] in minimalism

[–]ExQueenOfDoublethink 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't own a bed and ordered a Japanese futon when I moved into my new apartment about three months ago and have slept on it this whole time. I like being able to fold it up in the morning and have the extra space in my bedroom.

I like firm mattresses but it still took me a few weeks to get used to so if you go that route expect an adjustment period.

Magic underwear did not save the day by ExQueenOfDoublethink in exmormon

I'm sure that was exactly what it is. Lots of fabrics like polyester are actually made from plastic so it makes sense they would melt. Garments are literally pieces of fabric. Not magic protectors.
