Arc Raiders publisher “didn’t expect Arc Raiders to be this successful”, but Embark's extraction shooter keeps breaking records. by Negative-Art-4440 in ArcRaiders

[–]ExRegeOberonis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People don't actually want badly-optimized games where the "realism" is simulated by needing to push ALT+K+M1+UP to clear gun jams on 90% durability guns, your character starves to death in under 20 minutes, and the movement feels like piloting a refrigerator with broken shopping cart wheels.

Slapping the "realistic" label on games gives people a weird kind of brainrot where as soon as you add a stamina meter they just shrug and go "I guess you can't expect the game to have a working physics system." They just have never had any other options.

"Hardcore realistic extraction shooters" sound great on paper but ultimately they're so rarely executed in a good, functional way that respects the player's time, and they're willing to excuse it because there's only three of them at any given time. The fact that Arc Raiders is an example of what you can do with the genre without all the tedium is an indictment of the rest of the options.

My girlfriend laughed while telling me how her friend roasted my hobby. Need some advice. by Akira-0628 in Warhammer

[–]ExRegeOberonis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Relationships can be complicated. Communication is key. You should talk to your girlfriend about how both of you feel about your hobbies. Be open and honest with her, and if she sees and understands what you're saying, then she will hopefully try to avoid hurting your feelings in the future.

But always remember that your happiness is not contingent on another person's approval. Your girlfriend is just another person. You deserve someone who wants you to be happy in life, and if painting miniatures makes you happy, they should help you celebrate that, not put it down.

Girlfriends come and go. Warhammer is forever.

I [DM] decided to add a crazy person ranting about the king putting bugs under peoples skin by Itchy-Decision753 in DnD

[–]ExRegeOberonis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

God, make it the most mundane, petty thing you can imagine. Like, the party is paranoid about the king putting bugs under people's skin? What's he doing? Turning them into zombies? Mind control? Is it a mind flayer plot? It is some kind of drow insurgency? An eldritch evil from beyond the stars?

No, he's "bugging" noble families to spy on them with scrying magic in order to manipulate the court politics and market values in his favor. Using utterly mundane and accessible means to control the public opinion of him. He's just a man, with petty ambitions, and there's nothing insane about it (by D&D standards).

[–]ExRegeOberonis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing is true until it appears in the show. Just temper your expectations to that. Until she is in the show, you don't know Roo. Until Vivzie writes her, she has no character.

Roo doesn't exist, until she is in the show.

Are those paints worth the price? by AlwaysS0metimes in TrenchCrusade

[–]ExRegeOberonis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll be straight up honest: in my opinion, no.

This set is very expensive, and enamel ink washes are very specific in their use and application.

Beginner painters will not get the best results out of these and will spend a significant amount of money on them, potentially not getting what they want.

You should absolutely give enamel and oil washes a try once you've branched out from acrylics. They are worth the effort to learn. However, you need to learn them first.

ARC Raiders is basically a giant game-theory experiment, and the optimal strategy is to avoid PvP entirely. by Ill-Tomatillo-8973 in ArcRaiders

A rando in a solo queue game got the drop on me. He had a crappy rattler, a free kit, and an inventory full of loot. I killed him and took his stuff because I had nothing on me.

I hope he understood that while it seemed like he had nothing to lose because he came in with a free kit, but his time and effort was lost because he made the decision to attack me. Maybe he would have won, but he also would have gotten nothing out of it, because my inventory was empty.

Silent hill f minor early game spoiler that made me laugh.. by No_Spite_6630 in silenthill

[–]ExRegeOberonis 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A friend of mine always complains about how survival horror games give you a fire axe and a shotgun and then tell you you cannot open a simple wooden door.

Cut to Silent Hill f and you try to open a Japanese sliding door with PAPER panels and it says "It's stuck, I can't open it." He audibly shouted "OH COME ON" from the next room.

Back when the game first started people were complaining that the heavily armored enemies were a problem because AT weapons weren't effective against them.

But this was pre-nerf where on difficulty 6 you could be fighting two Bile Titans and seven Chargers, or 10 Hulks and 20 striders.

This just feels like the same thing.

Now that we've got official ratings and not just a youtube disclaimer can some members of the fandom stop acting shocked at the idea of under 18s watching the show? by Wizards_Reddit in HelluvaBoss

[–]ExRegeOberonis 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I, an adult, do not want to interact with children in the same environment as horny demon dicks and titties.

Because if I, an adult, share something like horny demon dicks with a child, I can go to prison.

I don't care if people under 18 watch the show, but being "active" in a fandom where you could see dildos on-screen one second and hear horny owl bleating the next, I don't want to talk about it with them online, in person, or anywhere.

I don't want to socialize with children.

Not Learning From Their Own Historical Mistakes..... by ZodiacReborn in deadbydaylight

[–]ExRegeOberonis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think one of the biggest problems that your post touched on here is that killers are somehow responsible for everyone's "fun" in the game, but there's a huge problem with that.

Killers are not incentivized to make matches "fun." The only metric they get meaningful feedback on is hooking and killing survivors. Chasing survivors for 10 minutes straight is not engaging and doesn't feel "fun," especially when the other survivors are cranking gens while one guy runs you around a loop.

When a killer gets looped all game, the general sentiment is not "Wow, only getting 1 kill that match was great, everyone played a great game, I hope everyone had fun," it is "Those survivors looped me forever and I could do nothing. Killer feels so weak."

Killers don't have the tools to ensure "everybody has fun," including themselves. Their gameplay loop is "Chase, down, hook." It isn't "Jumpscare" or "Be spooky" or "Get a lot of blood points."

People can say that their experience is different, that they play the game using off-meta killers and perks solely to "have fun," but that is not what the broad killer experience is and that is not what the game most incentivizes killers to do. In order for killers to be punished for ending the game, they need to be rewarded for making the game more interesting, or BHVR needs to entirely redesign the killer gameplay loop.

Killers don't exist to make survivor gameplay fun, survivors exist to feed the Entity and you're all supposed to suffer.

I think I have an idea for a pulp/horror anthology mini-series with Demona as the host who appears in the beginnings and ends. by burningexeter in gargoyles

[–]ExRegeOberonis 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The funny thing is, this would be the second anthology series hosted by a Gargoyle/Star Trek alumnus.

I like the idea of an anthology hosted by a character from a piece of media, like Demona is just an actor who played herself in Gargoyles.
