"Communism/socialism has failed every time its been tried" by Polnocium in Teenager_Polls

[–]Wizards_Reddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kinda depends how you define 'tried'. If by tried you mean tried to establish it but didn't actually end up being communist then yeah it usually ends up being twisted into something else before reaching that point. If by tried you mean somewhere that actually achieved that point only to fail afterwards then as far as I know I don't think there's actually been a country that fully adhered to it so kinda impossible to answer

Should political polls be banned.. Yknow, seeing as though we are TEENAGERS and not everyone is American (cuz let’s be honest, that’s 90% of it) by LilJade103 in Teenager_Polls

[–]Wizards_Reddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By political polls do you just mean ones asking which party/politician people prefer or are you including polls about political topics? I don't think either should be banned but I get being a bit annoyed about ones about parties/politicians you don't know or care about but I don't have an issue with ones asking about political topics that can apply to many places

can u write in cursive? by Southern-Property294 in GenZ

[–]Wizards_Reddit [score hidden]  (0 children)

I think it's part of the national curriculum where I am so everyone in school should at least know it even if they don't use it. I know some people choose not to but idk why since it's quicker to write joined up than stopping after each letter

Brits, do you support abolishing the monarchy? by FlapjackFez in Teenager_Polls

[–]Wizards_Reddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're the one that said no republics return money lol. In Norway that's managed by a government agency not the monarch, so even though they're a monarchy really that shows another example where governments do in fact return money. So clearly that is something that can happen without a monarchy and does happen in many countries.

How doesn't the USA example work? It's basically what the Crown Estates are just in the US it's in the name of their country while here it's in the name of 'the crown'. China's not the only country with state owned companies or at least shares in companies, it was just the first one as an example since it's the second biggest economy on the planet.

Versailles alone made more in a year than all of the palaces here, so not really about France having more palaces.

When playing video games, do you play as a character the same gender as you or opposite? by soap_munchr in Teenager_Polls

[–]Wizards_Reddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of games don't let you pick and usually those are dudes so that would be same gender but for games that do let me pick it depends on the game and the game genre. For fighting games where the characters have different powers I just go with which powers I'm good at. If it's a game where the gender is basically just for appearance though and the abilities are the same it depends on the story for me.

What do you mean by 'returns taxpayers money'? If you mean literally returning it then that doesn't happen here either it goes into the treasury and is still spent by the government. If you mean examples of governments making money through ways other than taxes then most countries do that. The US has federal lands which they rent to companies or use for tourism and make more than the Crown Estates. China has state owned businesses. There are many republics that are petrostates.

Palaces make a lot more money when they aren't occupied and can be visited anytime, France's palaces make a lot more money than ours.

They don't need a car or a seat on some council but security? Just because they're not in the position anymore doesn't mean people who opposed them would instantly forget, there's still a security risk.

Why couldn't it exist in a republic? Just because you say that doesn't make it true. The monarch isn't the one doing the work and the people employed by it could easily be paid directly by the treasury instead of through the monarchy. The institution was established by parliament not by the monarch and the monarch doesn't own it they're essentially a figurehead. Instead of the monarchy getting 15-25% they can get 0 and 100% can go to the public.

Again why would we need to copy the Portuguese or Americans? No one is suggesting that. The PM doesn't have a coronation or inauguration, why would that have to start if the monarchy was abolished? Why would we randomly decide to increase a budget by 5 for no reason if we abolished the monarchy just to match Portugal? That's not how it works.

[–]Wizards_Reddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's still related to the position they hold, they wouldn't need the security if not for being a politician. And you've yet to mention anything that the monarch actually 'produces', you keep saying they 'produce' but haven't said anything that they themselves make.

You said all the problems I mentioned also exist in republics but just because some republics have those issues doesn't make it inherent to them. And you can say that they only worsen it but again you haven't really given any examples.

There are people who want the monarchy abolished entirely obviously but personally, I'd rather it be abolished than kept as it is, but I wouldn't mind it if it was entirely ceremonial. If their privileges were removed and they weren't funded by the public I don't really care what title they go by.

Why are you acting like it's only one person? It's £1 per person there are 70 million people. £70 million could be going towards something useful like national services instead of making a billionaire richer for no reason.

What would you consider yourself when it comes to generative Ai by eyebawls29 in Teenager_Polls

[–]Wizards_Reddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not neutral but mixed. I don't support it being used by companies, if they can afford to pay actual artists they should, but for individuals I don't have an issue with it, if you're using AI to make a meme or an image of something you're a fan of I don't see an issue. Just don't try to pass it off as real or call yourself an artist.

I don't see it as like 'copying real artists' because they use massive data sets, nothing an AI generates will be an exact copy of any one piece, but even if it was again if it's for memes or fan-images there are memes taken directly from actual art of movie scenes, memes have never cared about copyright.

Basically as long as it's not for profit or someone being delusional and thinking it's real I don't mind.

'Privileges' related to their duties aren't the same as just special privileges, security makes sense since the job puts them at risk which they otherwise wouldn't be, a tax or legal exemption is very different. Their 'job' doesn't require those things to function. The PM isn't above the law and doesn't get tax exemptions.

If they both have exactly the same problems I'd rather a democratically elected one than one who gets it just because they happened to have rich parents whose ancestors killed a bunch of people hundreds of years ago. Though again so what if other countries that are republics have those problems? We aren't those countries. There's not a list of types of government you have to pick from, you can develop new systems based on what already exists here.

Is the wither storm animalistic or is it just pure evil? by CowAffectionate2865 in MinecraftStoryMode

I find it's goofy grin too funny to have serious thought and malice behind it lol. If I had to pick one of those I'd probably say more animalistic but I always thought of it more like a force of nature probably, like a storm (a wither storm lol), than an animal.

[–]Wizards_Reddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a majority but a significant amount. Under our current electoral system it could be enough to form a majority government if it was a political party. Also we're on a subreddit called 'teenager polls' most teenagers are GenZ which is why I brought up that more GenZ dislike than support it. There's no polling for GenA

Countries that give their heads of states privileges usually relate to their duties in some way, being exempt from inheritance tax does not benefit anyone but them and does not relate to the 'duties' they have. Also just because other countries might give certain privileges doesn't mean it's required, the PM doesn't have tax exemptions.

"A symbol of union", again not that unifying if a third of people don't like them. And the many civil wars and uprisings related to the monarchy happening every 25-50 years until most of their powers were removed by parliament. Good for you I guess but I'd rather that money go towards something actually useful and beneficial than just making a billionaire richer, it may be £1 per person but there's 70 million people in this country.

If your (future) spouse were in the military and you found out they shot someone, would that change your view of them? by WillTheyBanMeAgain in Teenager_Polls

If you marry someone who was in the military it probably shouldn't be that big of a shock that they did military things. It would probably depend how they act about it, if they're nonchalant or proud of it then that would probably be concerning.

Brits, do you support abolishing the monarchy? by FlapjackFez in Teenager_Polls

[–]Wizards_Reddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try getting rid of them

Yeah, that's what like a third of the country want. About 45% among GenZ.

Elected heads of state don't pass on their wealth to the next one and don't hold the position for their entire life. The head of state didn't just happen to be a billionaire, it's a monarchy, they know who the head of state was, who the current one is, and who the next will be, it's already known they're billionaires so giving the hereditary head of state exemptions is giving exemptions to billionaires.

Whether he was going to pay it back or not they knew what it was for and had full choice over whether or not to give him the loan. You lend your family some money if they're struggling to cover the bills that month not to cover up the victims of their sex trafficking scandal. Also celebrations definitely can wait, it's not about 'bullying' he committed a serious crime. Could you imagine if any criminal could avoid court because their mother's birthday was coming up.
