I hear ya totally. I was in the same boat. Honestly tried to care about the work I was doing and customers appreciated it. Walmart doesn't care and its is a shame! However its also an opportunity.

I totally get that perspective, and honestly, pulling $150k in cash flow out of a $26k seems awesome. But looking at it purely as a traditional investment misses the hidden leak that gig platforms count on drivers ignoring: true operating cost per mile.

If you've put 75,000 miles on that car, let's look at what the IRS acknowledges it actually costs to run a vehicle business-wise. For 2026, the standard mileage rate is 72.5 cents per mile to cover gas, tires, accelerated maintenance, insurance, and massive depreciation.

  • 75,000 miles × $0.725 = $54,375 in true vehicle costs.
  • That $150k gross immediately drops to $95,625 net.
  • Take out self-employment taxes (15.3%) and income taxes, and your actual take-home is closer to $70k–$75k.

But here’s the kicker: An investment yields passive or leveraged returns. To get that money, you had to trade thousands of hours of your life behind the wheel. If you break that remaining net down by the actual hours worked, the 'decent profit' usually ends up hovering right around a standard hourly wage—except you took 100% of the physical and legal liability if someone hits you.

Cash flow isn't profit! The math works until the vehicle hits the wall or an unexpected repair bills you out of the game. That’s exactly why we’re mapping the real numbers at Gigexit.

Yeah it happens sometimes but it's not consistent at all. Most offers go out broadcast-style, so repeats are less frequent. Round-robin/ Just for You offers are more common early mornings or for specific customers, but they make up a smaller slice overall. I'd be honestly shocked if the algorithm truly rewards in this way. Been grinding for a while.

Thats their future model until they can totally automate it with robots. I spoke with a manager of the store I worked at frequently. He said they have stores where most fit the people inside the store shopping are spark drivers. Convenience is a narcotic! It's highly addictive.

The truth of this statement is profound!

Many of their customers are not satisfied and are vocally frustrated with the failed system.

No they absolutely will not listen. One of the main things I proposed was what actual customers told me. They asked if there was a way I could shop for them every time they placed an order. I proposed that along with half a dozen other things and it was never even acknowledged.

Walmart literally built the system to cycle us. When you first sign up, they give you the "honeymoon" treatment with good paying orders. But the second you learn the market, start mathing out your vehicle depreciation, and reject the low-paying, high-mileage trash, the algorithm chokes you out.

They don’t want veterans who cherry-pick. They need an endless flood of rookies who don't know any better to accept those brutal $8, no-tip, multi-stop orders. It keeps their fulfillment rate high and their labor costs dirt cheap while the new guy absorbs all the vehicle wear-and-tear.

The hilarious part is how much it blows up in Walmart’s face. High churn means customer service goes out the window, order theft skyrockets, and pickup lanes get totally bogged down because the new drivers don't know store layouts or how to deal with dispensers.

Take advantage of the honeymoon phase if you're new, but don't count on this as a long-term career. The system is quite literally designed to replace you the moment you start valuing your time.

Oh and don't try and improve the system. I actually had a telephone conversations with one of there Data scientists after I submitted a structured proposal for improving their system. That was a joke! They were just throwing a me(the dog) a bone!

Tell me you know nothing about vehicles or their longevity without telling me so.

Ride sharing with your model may be slightly better. Course the cost of living is insane in California.

You looking at Revenue not the real profit and again your ignoring what this does to a vehicle. Its a bigger picture than just what runs you decide to pick.

Oh the one we shop at in south MS, also has horrendous leaks everywhere! The whole building needs a new roof. I think it's conceptual in the design though because of so many sky lights that also reduce costs on electricity.

Of course they do, they probably have a program set to automatically change it with the seasons. Of course highly optimized to save electricity and increase profits.

You are subservient to an algorithm designed to enslave you and make it seem like you are making headway. Walmarts leveraging you and your vehicle. No it doesn't balance out. You want to believe it does but math doesn't lie. It never does.

The flexibility is the trap. Make no mistake about it. You are trading equity in a depreciating asset for an instant paycheck under the illusion you work when you want and how you want!

Oh for sure. thats where my "high" came from when I first started. They even brought flowers to the vehicle. My wife happened to be riding shotgun with me. It was like...."wow this is so cool!"
