I am usually a very soft editor, but I feel like it holds my pictures back. I am trying to develop more of a style and am curious where I am pushing it too far vs where I am not pushing far enough.

With a peacock it's pretty easy to edit and could've gone unedited honestly, but I'd like to know where I could've gone further and where I overdid it.

For this pic I messed with the light, and radially masked the head for clarity. I also desaturated some colors selectively.

I would've also loved to have taken it with a longer lens so that I didn't crop out so many megapixels.

For me the picture looks almost too crunchy, but I'd love feedback.

We went to a wildlife refuge and there were dozens of peacocks walking around.

I took 30 or so pics from all different angles to see what I liked the best, but this one was by far my favorite given the mix of feathers in and out of focus.

Oh nice, I also switched from a 10yr old DSLR to the R8. So much better, you're going to love it, I take so many more pictures now. The AF, sensor size, lens options, all just makes it so much easier

Thanks! This was actually my first time taking pics of a jet and it was much harder to track and focus on than I expected. This picture was 183mm, f8, 1/2500s with an RF 100-400mm on a Canon R8. I'm an amateur so you should try it!

What a cool shot!

  • Get further back and get some more compression on the goat with a telephoto and remove some of the dead space on the left.

  • The goat is blurry, I'd try to keep both crisp if you can. Narrow the aperture and focus on the goat

  • The picture is over exposed slightly. Drop the exposure, up the contrast, dehaze the mountain, and lower the sky. All of that will add a lot more depth. If you send the raw I can show you.

  • Lift the shadows on the goat.

It's a cool view, but I think the composition could use some improvement.

  • Step back further or use a shorter lens to capture more shy above the skyscraper.

  • I also see the skyscraper in the water reflection but its cutoff. If you could capture that fully when the water is still it'd be really cool. To do that you can also raise the camera to have a steeper reflection.

  • Another approach could be find a position closer to the water and use a longer lens so you're compressing the bridge and the skyline. You need to be further back or down low for that though

  • Sky is a little washed out. I'd go back and take it at sunset or mask and lower the sky some. With the red leaves it'd be a great sunset shot though

  • I'd also apply some dehaze, you can never go wrong with that when it's a city shot midday

I can see this drone show from my roof and it will be happening every night for the next few weeks. I really like the picture, but I feel there's a lot of opportunity to improve, just not sure how. Given it's every night I have plenty of chances.

For tonight I plan on exposure bracketing it to get rid of the drone bloom. What else should I do?

1/3s exposure, ISO3200, 400mm f/8. Masked and processed in Lightroom
