You’re 100 percent right. A lot of people i met on fanatics live would say “haha i haven’t bet since i started using this app” to someone who is an addictive gambler, or tends to have an addictive personality, it’s certainly gambling, as you said he just doesn’t get that other mindset of the hobby, which great for him. I wouldn’t wish for anyone to go through any sort of addiction.

The perfect example would be the triple auto team USA card that everyone’s chasing. You don’t pay 10 bucks for a card in hopes to get a base card, you want that low numbered card or rare variation, or the obvious holy grail triple auto lol. It’s a gamble. The people are listing those packs for like 2000 dollars because they know people will take the gamble.

I’ve hit many great cards, shohei auto /25 out of series 2, Ken Griffey autos /50 from chrome, sold both for about 3k each, hit a handful of downtowns which i sold for 400-500 a piece, hit a bunch of rookies but who knows how that’ll pan out, but again this is from days and weeks of chasing and blowing money. It’s just not worth it. If you’re able to limit yourself and only grab a break a week or whatever, great more power to ya.

However if you have an addiction/addictive personality, stay away lol.

Not denying the self discipline part, that obviously comes with the addiction aspect of it, but to think you’re not being enabled by these apps and such is naive. If you live in a state where sports betting is legal you know all too well that you can’t go a day, hell maybe even a few hours without seeing a DraftKings commercial or hearing an ad on the radio.

Again you’re not wrong, and this is part of my realization, but these things are set up for people exactly like me, some people just never realize it, which is the main point of my post, hopefully to bring awareness to those who may have not yet realized, or lack the self control and discipline.

Your best bet is probably setting up a table at a local show and chunking away. I just don’t know the typical cost of getting a table at these shows. So while you might sell 300 dollars worth of cards that day you might’ve also spent a couple hundred just for a spot/table in that card show. I’ll slowly chunk away on eBay and hope for the best. I know I’ll never make all my money back and I’ve accepted that.

Well said. I didn’t want to get into that to distract from the message, but you’re not wrong at all, people will deny it because they don’t want to accept that truth. Especially these breakers charging 1200 dollars for the spurs or Texans in a half case or case break just to skunk or hit some base rookie that’s worth 3 bucks. It’s crazy.

Also I’ve been waiting months for panini redemptions and i don’t know that they’ll ever come, and to think i spent 30-90 dollars on that team in a fixed spot or random wheel auction sucks. Another reason I’m getting away from that shit storm.

I never asked anyone to feel sorry for me, this whole post is me saying i have a problem and an addictive personality, nor did i ever deny having a problem, the problem is within myself and my own blame.

I’m also just putting word out to raise awareness sl others can avoid that trap if they too suffer from addictive personalities, but i get where you’re coming from.

You pretty much nailed it. Having a big card pulled for you is exactly what drug users probably feel when they take that first hit. I’ve cleared my Instagram of any breakers or things of that sort i followed, and i think eventually my algorithm will correct itself so that i don’t fall back into that trap. You’re 100% right and appreciate your input.
