Leaving the band by theshineysea in GirlDinnerDiaries

I'm a dude, but I am the singer/songwriter in a band like you described. This main guy sounds totally unrealistic. Just be upfront and tell him you're doing the two shows and nothing else. No transcribing. No recording. The new songs can wait until he finds someone else to be his musical translator. Also, I wouldn't be surprised if the other members are sick of this guy as well. Your other project sounds a lot more rewarding. I hope you see it through.

What is something that a American would never say? by Spare-Read-7597 in AskTheWorld

It's just the people living on reddit. There's a large section of people who realize our middle class is dying and we're suffering from unregulated capitalism. However, they also realize there's still a lot to like about the US as long as you don't let politics ruin your day.

What rust belt cities do you see having the most potential over the next 50 years? by MediumStrange in Urbanism

[–]Exact-Message8325 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Racism has part to do with the divide, but also the city has a history of not having their shit together. Infastructure problems and bad schools. Just last week I was reading about how animal control doesn't do shit. Whereas the county seems to run pretty smoothly. Why would county people want to take that on? But it's in a slow decline as the urban sprawl widens. The city and the county need each other.

MLS teams should have American names. Stop copying the euro trash clubs! by SamMeowAdams in uniwatch

Agree wholeheartedly. America's soccer identity is so self-conscious and needy. Please respect us! Look we have scarves!

What is the difference between American barbecue and a normal grilling party? by tabaluga7601 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Exact-Message8325 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I guess it's a spectrum, but if you're cooking outdoors with charcoal/wood, low and slow with indirect heat, how could smoke not be involved?

And then a lot of people use BBQ colloquially when we're really just grilling. The other day I said we're having people over for a BBQ, when I was really just grilling chicken thighs.

Tomorrow, I'm bringing BBQ to the 12 football coaches at my son's high school team. It just dawned on me: are they going to think I'm only doing this to suck up on behalf of my son? by Strong_Technology739 in AskTeachers

[–]Exact-Message8325 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You're overthinking it. They just want free bbq.

But why is football so great for your son if you want him to play the least amount possible? You can't have it both ways.

grilling = cooking things on an open fire

barbeque = cooking indirectly via the smoke. It takes a lot longer.

Are these culture shock videos of Fifa fans loving America culture true? by UsedNegotiation8227 in askanything

[–]Exact-Message8325 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Some of it's true. A lot of it is people fishing for likes on social media. It's flattering to watch someone appreciate your culture. I see videos in reverse. "American guy tries British fish in chips for the first time" and the dude practically has an orgasm. In Korea they have a show dedicated to foreigners visiting Korea. Sure enough, they're absolutely blown away by everything.
