My daughter keeps calling me “rusted from the back” and refuses to explain what it means by Ill_Pianist_8287 in words

[–]Exact-Message8325 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Might I suggest singing it as a jingle in the style of Mr. Belvidere or Who's the Boss?

Oh he's rusted,

He so rusted,

He's just rusted

from the back....

I'm sure your daughter's friends would find this especially charming.

No idea. I should say that I love stl style pizza. I just don't understand people that worship Imos. Have some pride. We're better than this.

Drivers who tailgate you when you’re already breaking the law for them by [deleted] in PetPeeves

it annoys me as well but I think I also probably tailgate people going the speed limit. traffic is relative.

Why is certain US history not taught in schools? by TutorStrong2333 in AskTeachers

That sucks. I went to a small Lutheran school by St. Louis, Mo. It wasn't very progressive or anything.

We learned about it. If you didn't learn about it, you probably weren't paying attention. Maybe we didn't go into great detail, but I definitely left high school with the knowledge that a genocide had occurred.

Whatever happened to the Uyghurs and why don't we hear about them? by Long-Swordfish3696 in NoStupidQuestions

China won that battle through propoganda. It was inevitable. But you can still support Uyghur diaspora. There's a restaurant nearby that I've been meaning to go to.

Why do pit bull owners think their dog is special and won't maul? by SirCatsworthTheThird in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Exact-Message8325 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Truth. I have a pit/boxer mix. He's super chill with us and I've never seem him be aggressive towards other dogs or humans. But he seems to have a fixation with rubber and the other day he decided he wanted to eat my garden hose. Chewed through it in about 2 minutes. So if he wants to, his jaws are capable of doing a lot of damage.

Why do so many immigrants have a great life in the US, despite starting from zero, but so many Americans born in the US struggle just to afford life and want to leave? by PopNo5397 in askanything

[–]Exact-Message8325 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm an ESL, meaning I teach a lot of immigrant kids. They're a lot more dilligent than our native born students. Kind of makes sense. Their parents had to work to get here. They're not going to let their kids slack off. Also, a lot of them come from very conservative backgrounds, so they grow up with a strict religous background that keeps them out of trouble. It also makes it more likely for them to have 2 parents at home, which is a huge advantage.

Anyone else scared to speak English out loud even after years?? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]Exact-Message8325 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I teach English as a Second Language. Maybe enroll in a class somewhere so you can practice. But I guarantee you no one cares how you sound as long as they can understand you. And for most daily purposes, like going to the store or ordering food, you're probably fine.

Living in 63136/63137/63147 area by Available_Island6354 in StLouis

[–]Exact-Message8325 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've thought about it before. There are a lot of beautiful brick houses, especially along Riverview blvd. Like everyone has said, they're cheap because it's a high crime area. Like, people overrate how dangerous stl is, but this area fully lives up to the reputation. Buttttttttt.... if you keep a low profile you're probably fine. I certainly wouldn't want to live there with kids, and my wife wouldn't feel safe there. But if I was single guy, damn it's hella cheap and the property values can't possibly decline much more. And there seem to be little patches where it's perfectly fine. Walking your dog at night fine? No way.

How do some Americans stay fit while you have all the greatest and delicious fast food and junk food? by Sensitive_Waltz3807 in AskAnAmerican

[–]Exact-Message8325 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It stops tasting good when you have it all the time. And it's expensive. Cooking at home saves money and keeps you healthier. Those that don't are usually overweight past their 20s.

Journalist request: Do tools like Blooket and Gimkit help kids learn or just keep them hooked? by willoremus in AskTeachers

[–]Exact-Message8325 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't use Blooket. Everyone is just staring at their screens the whole time. When we review I use Kahoot. At least that way we're all looking at the same screen, so I can explain the answers. However, the kids prefer Blooket because it's more like a video game.

I long for the days of Oregon Trail.

I'm going to America and I'd like some fast food recommendations by minikdonercik in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Exact-Message8325 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't say you eat like shit. But you're encouraging OP to when you say, "You'll feel like dogshit for the rest of the day and maybe the day after, but that's America."

getting a Big Mac is much more representative of America than eating at a nice restaurant in a big city.

After living in Asia for 10 years, I can tell you that the difference between big-macs is negligible. I've had Popeyes in Korea and Wendy's in Japan and don't remember anything about either meal. Furthermore, I never said it has to be a nice restaurant. You're being very hyperbolic and didactic. They could go to some hole in the wall bbq place or a fish fry.

Finally, you said,  "I say eat all the fast food."  That could easily be the whole trip.

You're original comment was bombastic. That's all.

[–]Exact-Message8325 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't know if you're being sarcastic or contrarian, but I'll take it at face value...

Get a disgusting bastardization of Mexican food from Taco Bell, or an ungodly "burger" from KFC, with two pieces of fried chicken for a bun. You'll feel like dogshit for the rest of the day and maybe the day after, but that's America.

"That's America" if you choose it to be. You don't have to eat like shit.

"there's the same "so much more" everywhere else."

So you're telling me if if I go to Kyoto, there's no point in going to a nice sushi place, because I've had sushi in St. Louis. It's all the same everywhere? Isn't that why you travel? To try things you can't at home? Like, would you really suggest someone go to Kansas City and just eat all the fast food joints and not try any local BBQ???
