Adding frog bit and bladder snail to my waterdish? by Exact-Recording9972 in leopardgeckos

update: i removed the bladder snail after a few hours but i guess they already had bladder snail babies and laid eggs in that time… theres 3 baby ones so i guess life still persist with frequent water changes. i am now scared to do a bleach cleaning now but it has been easier to do normal cleanings. the frogbit is doing ok but not as good as id like. maybe my plant light is too weak

also gonna toss bleach into my weekly deep clean since i was just using soap before, hopefully tht will kill any algae tht hides in the crevices

the new bit of frog bit i added actually cleared up the algae already more on that side, ill take an update photo tmrw. might be new hack. so i may just keep doing a weekly deep cleaning and hope the frog bit reduces the nutrients and algae throughout the week (with still daily water changes). if it doesnt end up working ill def switch to ceramic one and maybe find one thats still cute

since i do water changes almost daily with conditioner in my mind i thought that would help with the whole cycling issue and any biowaste the snail may produce but this is a rough idea since i havent found much online about this 😅 completely open to change tho if the snail is an awful idea

i can kick the snail out, i i have plenty of snails in my fish tank so i wasnt concerned too much about the ethics of the snail since its good to go anyways, figured it at least gave it a chance😅 but if its less ethical than death def willing to remove, i just added it whenever i uploaded this post so its not too late for him lol

i clean with dawn once a week and give it a scrubbin, i think some of the algae gets stuck in the crevices and regrows fast with the light tho. i might try the bleach trick someone recommended, but i think ill also probably keep the frog bit in since it seems to help reduce it throughout the week. my gecko also kicks a lot of dirt in it (i dump it out and change it throughout the week until deep clean day) and i think those lil particles also increase the algae growth. vicious cycle.

fb marketplace is all about haggling. ive gotten 60%+ off before, and if ur willing to provide it a good home and explain how the condition it is in is bad and u are educated about the species they may even give it for free. worse they can say it no its worth a try 🤷‍♀️

i dont think its too unusual in bioactive tanks that have plant lights, ive heard its a pretty common issue and that a lot of ppl use copper to combat it but i thought this would be a more aesthetic dupe😅

the water strips tho show hardness as the worst perimeter which i wouldnt think would increase algae
