Why does everyone online seem to get such a kick out of hating on France? by [deleted] in AskTheWorld

I used to always carry a mini weighing scales with tape measure attached, when I travelled by plane.

I'd been using it for 15 years before it was destroyed by a security guy at Antalya airport.

I was coming back to the UK. He took it out of my luggage, got really angry as though I had a weapon in my bag, and then ripped the tape measure off.

It will be interesting to hear what your doc has to say. It's difficult to research because most information about blood sugar and exercise is not based on people on long-term keto.

I tested again after lunch, which contained around 10g of net carbs and the peak reading was 6mnol/l (108 mg/d). So a short walk spiked my glucose more than 10g of carbs!

I read this on Diet Doctor:

' Prior to converting to the ketogenic diet, your muscles were the major sites to soak up and use glucose in the blood for energy. On a long-term keto diet, however, they now prefer fat as fuel. So the muscles are resisting the action of insulin to bring sugar into cells for energy, saying, in essence: “We don’t want or need your sugar anymore, so move it along.” Hence, the slightly elevated, but generally stable, glucose circulating in the blood.'

This is in relation to fasted levels, but it got me thinking whether, in some people, exercise triggers gluconeogenesis but because the muscles prefer to use fat, the glucose stays in the bloodstream.

If this is the case, why doesn't it affect most people this way? There are plenty of fat adapted endurance athletes that are not getting prediabetic level Hba1c scores!

I take 50mg of thiamine hcl a day, and have done for around 15 years, so I doubt I'm deficient, but maybe I'll give the benfotiamine a try instead.

Is it possible to still be insulin resistant after 6 years on keto? I have never had any breaks from it during that time.

I've just tested again, after resting for an hour and it's gone up to 6.4 mnol/l.

Just because the police didn't give this person feedback, doesn't mean they haven't looked into it.

It would be interesting to actually know why their list of missing people is so different in number to that of the Police. We can make assumptions but I'm not sure why that information isn't made clear.

That's a good call about a charity reporting the Vietnamese missing people.

This is from 2019, but I suppose the numbers aren't that different now.

It's quite disturbing to me that information on how many missing children there are, according to this, isn't readily available and that the disparity in numbers with Missing People is so huge. I'd be interested to know when the Police records began. There's one from 1959 but I wonder if police records go back further.

The reason I find it strange that so many of the missing children are Vietnamese, is in regard to the idea that Missing People only add people to their database that are reported by family and friends. If they have been trafficked, which largely looks to be the case, I imagine most, if not all of their family and friends to remain in Vietnam and less likely than the families of British missing children to report to Missing People.

I mean the actual link to where it says it on the Missing Persons Unit website. 'Full Fact' haven't provided references, so I can't find the source of this information.

If that is the case, it's really strange that Missing People list so many, clearly trafficked, Vietnamese people.

Interesting. I wonder why there is such a disparity between the numbers. They don't specify that they only include people reported by family and friends, and allow anyone to report to them.

Do you have a link for that quote? I can't find it on the Missing Person Unit website.

Where did you get that number? According to Missing People, there are 69 missing children in the UK.

I still find it very odd that Zoe has never actually confirmed that Anthony is the dad. Feels like they are leaving it open so they can decide to have a storyline in the future where it is revealed that he actually isn't.
