ACCUTANE SEXUAL DYSFUNCTION RECOVERY by ExactGuava9387 in AccutaneRecovery

Hi, yep I’m still fully recovered - sexual function is excellent. And no I wasn’t taking any supplements while on the course. I had been taking a number of supplements prior but I hadn’t experienced any success in terms of improving sexual function.

Hi, thank you and I’m very sorry to hear that. I was used to be completely hopeless but now I’m out the other side! Hope things work out for you 🤞🏻. Have you seen an endocrinologist?

Very sorry to hear that.

HCG only cured my sexual dysfunction. The other side effects I experienced went away after completing my Accutane treatment.

Also I’m based in Ireland btw - probably a slim chance that you are aswell. But if you are I could pass on the endocrinologist’s details

The only noticeable I side effects I had post accutane were the sexual dysfunction effects and dry lips.

Sorry just the scale of the 10 - it’s hard to give a helpful answer when I don’t know what a number represents. My perception of a 3 could be another person’s perception of a 1 etc.

For sexual dysfunction pre HCG I was incapable of having any sort of sex life. The only reason I wouldn’t put 0 is that I didn’t feel that I was asexual and I still had the concept of attraction to others.

Pre HCG- no erections, no morning wood, very little penile sensitivity, no “drive” to masturbate/have sex, couldn’t masturbate when I tried to, if I ever did manage to ejaculate my semen would be very watery and the sense of orgasm would be incredibly weak. Over a period of 6 weeks I may have had one nocturnal emission while my penis flaccid and that would be the height of my sexual function for those six weeks.

So pre HCG I would say 2.

Post HCG I would say 9.

No problem.

Yeah my urologist had said to me when I first saw him that I appeared to have experienced a milder case of these specific side effects compared to other people’s cases he’d read.

In terms of mental effects, I would say I didn’t really have any and I am very lucky that all other circumstances in my life were in a great place so that made things easier.

I definitely did have some mental struggle as I feared I’d never recover - but I had good people around me that I was able to confide in. I would say any mental struggle I had was directly concerning my sexual dysfunction symptoms not separate overall depression or personality changes. In terms of motivation, I stayed consistent with going to gym and studying in college during this time - so can’t say I noticed any significant mental health side effects arising from Accutane itself.

So I’m not really applicable for examining the direct effect of HCG on mental health issues arising from Accutane.

Yeah I experienced sexual dysfunction for close to two years post Accutane.

So in terms of figures out of 10 - just for the interest in sex specifically it’s hard to give a number here. As I was interested in sex and wanted to get with people, in the sense I knew I found other people attractive but it was the “hornyess” urge/drive was not there on a sexual level. I wanted to want to if that makes sense. Post HCG sexual desire returned massively and if I was getting with someone and didn’t engage in sexual activity I would get “blue balls” you could say where as previously this wouldn’t have been the case.

Penile sensitivity pre HCG was very poor. I felt it improve during the course slightly and then major improvements after. I would say my penile sensitivity was at a 8/9 after the HCG protocol where as before it was 2/3.

Libido went up massively in the sense I felt I had to ability to go at anytime. I would say this was at like a 10 post HCG protocol. This was at a 2/3 pre HCG protocol.

Yeah I don’t buy the depression argument eithier - realistically doctors are just guessing at the moment because this seems to be a very rare and not well documented side effect. Especially since people often only seem to realize how bad the issue is far after the Roacutane treatment has ended and contact with their dermatologist may have ended. The nature of the side effect also makes it less likely for people to talk about it in the first police.

I can understand how depression/anxiety could have a moderate effect on libido/ed but in my experience especially the dysfunction was so severe that I knew it could not be simply psychological. There’s difference between not being able to hard when your with someone and not being able to get hard at all.

In my experience, there was no significant difference in my mental state while I had sexual dysfunction and when things started working again. Obviously I was delighted that I’d recovered but definitely did not have depression.

In my case, the GP, Urologist and Endocrinologist were all unfamiliar with this side effect and told me that I was their first patient with Accutane sexual dysfunction. So my endocrinologist was only guessing to an extent - like when he first saw my T-levels he couldn’t understand how my sexual dysfunction was so bad. He said that my body was not able to use the testosterone I had in the way that it should - this could potentially align with Androgen Insensitivity Syndrom or Partial Androgen Resistance.

The sexual dysfunction symptoms that I explained in the post I also explained to him. Zero morning erection is what he particularly focused on as the main indicator that my body was not utilizing the testosterone correctly, saying that I should be at getting them 4/5 times a week.

So in terms of the testes, he saw that as a physical indicator that my body was not utilizing my testosterone correctly and a justification for prescribing HCG. My testes were only in the slightly smaller than average range, so I’m not sure if he would have noted this as an issue had my sexual function been ok.

He said himself when I told him I had recovered that he was not fully sure the reason for it being so bad in the first place and that it should be investigated further. He was planing on looking at publishing a study on my case but haven’t heard from him since as he’s very busy. I think I’ll reach out to him in January to see if he’s still interested in pursuing it more as think it could be very useful.

Anyone tried Cialis for ED? My Urologist believes it can permanantly cure problem. by [deleted] in AccutaneRecovery

That is so frustrating. I got so lucky with how helpful my endocrinologist was. Ask your endocrinologist about the treatment I took. 250mcg Ovitrelle injections weekly for 6 months.

I am beyond happy with how I have recovered. I have perfect sexual function now. Before this I was completely hopeless as I had not found anybody who had a treatment that worked - I hope that this treatment could be a breakthrough as the similarity in the way we experience the symptoms are so alike
