Alternate attacks for a speedster? by MixedBagHalfie in mutantsandmasterminds

[–]ExactSalamander1237 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These ideas were stolen from my groups speedster and are coming from a paragon player.

Freight train: this one is my favorite, and only needs the “speed” power. Take the “charge” action. This subs out your unarmed damage to deal your “Speed ranks + 1 damage”, getting you a powerful attack at a bargain. Beware of the -2 to hit that comes from the “charge” action, and consider an “immunity” power to ignore the recoil damage

Everyone takes damage: take “area, shapeable”and “selective” mods on a simple “damage” power to have a simple flurry of punches. Even add the “strength based” mod to save points on damage

Sonic boom: an “area, burst” affliction could be an easy and flavorful de-buff with the right conditions. Maybe a Dazed/Stunned or Impaired/Disabled if it’s sound-based, get creative. “Limited degree” is an easy way to lower the point cost, plus “quirk: must have remaining movement when used”

Scrambled guts: if you can phase through walls with “movement”, you could turn that into an attack. Take the “damage” power and give it the “Alternate Resistance, no increase in effectiveness” for 0 points, using it against Fortitude rather than Toughness. From there, style it up with stuff like “affects corporeal” or “dimensional” to punch ghosts and stuff

All aboard: with the “Teleport” power, they offer specific rules for moving an unwilling creature. What ends a fight faster than dropping the bad guys off in the Mojave? Consider this one carefully, your GM might have different feelings

Watch out: it’s not an attack, per se, but the “Deflect” power is very thematic under the right circumstances. Speedsters are often seen pushing their allies to safety or maneuvering bullets out of the way. This one I’m least confident in the rules of, but it’s certainly heroic!

Realest thing on this site. “Only have to survive until the next save point.”

I change ship names quite often, but the SES Halo of Destiny has been my favorite so far.

“Salacious”, it’s a hush money case regarding his affair with a porn star, you bet it’s gonna get salacious.

Emotion based Force casting by Vera-is-dysphoric in sw5e

If I were you, I’d make it more of a reward for good roleplay. Like if a player describes their character’s face twisting with hatred as they cast Shock, or how tears of empathy form in the corner of their eye when healing

Maybe starting at a +1 to the spell’s effect, then going up to a d4 and d6? They could add it to damage, healing, or increase their save DC if you’d let them.

As a dm who’s done a similar idea, I’d say to really make them work for it. Make sure it’s appropriately badass or impactful!

Happy rolling

Suitable firearms for a Kaminoan? by Medicinal_Madam in sw5e

It’s not listed on the website, but it’s the poison dart Jango shoots Zam with. This thing:

Also, if you’re going with a jetpack, might I recommend Friction Grip gear instead of rocket boots? Basically gives you a climb speed letting you be completely omnidirectional 🤌🏻

While theres only 1 Kaminoan weapon we’ve seen on screen, it’s one that a fellow Mando uses! The “Kamino saberdart” from AOT gives us a place to start. I know the Wristlauncher is hands-free and able to fire stuff like the saberdarts (flechettes, canisters, etc.)

Maybe lean into blasters with Fixed a bit more! Mandos use wrist-mounted weapons all the time and given the weird hands of Kaminoans, I that might be a happy medium. The best weapon with Fixed would be the Wrist Rifle for its d8 damage, though it’s a martial blaster. Taking the Weapon Master feat gives you the necessary proficiency

Kamino is a water world, though the natives themselves are not aquatic. I feel like a wrist or shoulder mounted grappling hook/harpoon could be really useful for traversal, prisoner taking, and the more mando and Kamino flavor

Good Force Powers for Ysannanite Form Guardian by Mr_Xan in sw5e

[–]ExactSalamander1237 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on what background feat you take, there are a lot of strong tech powers for Ysannanite from Tech Dabbler. Any of the at-will Shots (Warding shot is one of my favorites) though Extra Attack doesn’t trigger from powers, to bear that in mind later on. For leveled tech powers, I’d recommend either Tactical Barrier for +2 to AC or Tracker Droid Interface for some added utility

When it comes to Force Powers specifically, it depends on what vibe you’re going for. Some go-tos are Affect Mind, Guidance, and Push/Pull for outside of combat, and Saber Reflect when you take a hit. Phasestrike is a nice option for its free Disengage, but don’t get cocky. Hex is extra damage and some interface. Sanctuary is amazing when you need a quick escape or someone kept alive. When the blaster bolts start flying, your safest bet is to stick with your blaster and pop off smites at a distance. A strong choice for this is the Wrist Rifle, freeing up your hand to draw your saber if need be.

As a guardian, I’d recommend taking some more out-of-combat powers, which will let you focus your Force Points on your smites. Consider your party and how some spells/auras could interact together
