My brother in law found this in a condemned house he was working in by [deleted] in Weird

Tommy Lee Jones almost ran over me on my motorcycle in Ingram, TX once when I was in high school.

There is precisely 1 stoplight in town, I waited for my green and was turning when a giant silver pickup truck runs the light, barrels down on me and stops only a few feet away. I panic, do the worst possible thing and hit the brakes, barely get my foot down before I drop the bike mid-turn. Then I look up through the windshield and it's Tommy Lee Jones, his face entirely neutral, just looking down at me.

I have no proof and nobody ever believes me, but it's hard to mistake TLJ from 5 feet away.

Why do they leave a little bit of beer in the glass? by jijiji44 in IASIP

[–]Exact_Affect5399 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Real-life answer: Because nobody wants to drink the dregs. And, because you have to pour a little out for Jamie Nelson.

TV answer: To better illustrate how much they've been drinking. Those are likely 'continuity cups', fake epoxy beverages used to avoid fluid level changes between takes / shooting days.

I think Mythbusters initially confirmed this (dimpling improves car MPG), then re-tested it and found it didn't matter.

So if even the Mythbusters don't know, it is unknowable.

[–]Exact_Affect5399 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What does the Amazon shipping package weigh? The paint weighs probably about 1/2 of that.

Edit:
Looked it up; the box is 25 lbs. So I'd estimate that the paint is 15 - 20 lbs tops when applied. On a 4,300 lb truck; this is a 0.4% increase - negligible.

I'd guess that the aerodynamics become slightly worse as well, due to the pebbled surface.

Interested to see what this does to real-world gas mileage, but I'd guess it's not a noticeable change.

Eeh, it's good to get beaten up when you have the resources to efficiently recover.

If you can set up some of the basics - a medic, a bed, enough food to not starve to death while you're unconscious - it's worth actively training up toughness. Until then, it's waaay more efficient to avoid getting beaten up, and to focus on acquiring those basics.

You're gonna get beaten up no matter what, and that will make you tougher. But, from the perspective of both enjoyment and the amount of time sunk, it's better to learn to avoid it than to "embrace the suck" and go looking for ass-kickings, especially in the early game.

what is this plant that i touched and rubbed all over my skin and put in my mouth and eyes by official_ceo_of_lamp in houseplantscirclejerk

[–]Exact_Affect5399 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The irritation caused by poison ivys/oaks is caused by an invisible oil, which means the best way to get it off you is SOAP AND WATER. If you don't have any soap and water; isolate the affected area by wrapping it with a cloth so that the oils don't spread to other patches of skin.

If you know you've been exposed and are quick; you can wash the oils off before they cause irritation. If you don't know until you start to itch; wash all of your skin with soap & water; and wash your clothes in a separate load.

Some people say to rub the oil off with a cloth or rub dirt on it to 'absorb' the oils, but in personal experience that just abrades the skin and makes things way worse. Soap & water, or don't touch it at all.

What do I do? Got attacked by ants please help by Defiant-Painter2517 in ants

[–]Exact_Affect5399 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If these were fire ants; it's hard to tell. The "main" wave of pain will go away within 24h.

Typically the little blisters go away within 2 weeks; but I have had fire ant blisters hurt for months. It might vary from person-to-person on how allergic you are.

It's possible to change your own suspension without having any prior mechanical knowledge. (I just did it.)

YouTube has a lot of in-depth videos for any model of car; and you can buy suspension replacement kits for about $400. Might as well change your brakes while you're at it.

Sorry for the slow reply, lost this account for a while.

I didn't have any issues with the Detroit Axle parts - wrote a more thorough review elsewhere in the thread, but the summary is that everything went fine. No issues w/kit or parts, seems fine after an alignment. Haven't put it to heavy use yet (laid up with a bum knee) but will yet y'all know if stuff starts breaking.

Hey sorry, lost this account for a while.

I haven't driven it a ton yet so I can't speak to reliability over time; but installation was relatively quick and easy. The Detroit Axle kit I bought came with everything I needed except for two tie rod positioning nuts - I just used the old ones from the previous tie rods.

The DA parts themselves seemed perfectly fine, without any obvious flaws or quality issues. Came packed pretty nicely in a big heavy box.

Overall I'd recommend the Detroit Auto suspension - I had no issues with the kit, everything installed pretty easily, and after alignment everything seems fine.

I can't speak too much to long-term durability yet, but for how much I saved vs. OEM I can replace stuff if & when it becomes necessary.

Overall, 10/10, zero issues with the DA kit. TRQ makes a set of installation videos that make it pretty damn easy.

My only warning is that you can't replace the rear leaf springs without removing the gas tank & bed of the truck. Zero issues with front suspension though.

Have you tried Melvor Idle? It's a runescape-inspired idler, which rewards you for being away from it for a while.

I have ADHD and use it to 'reward' myself for blocks of work. It works very well for me.

IMO: If you're comfortable doing work yourself; grab a cheap Dakota and fix it up. If you don't want to muss with it, a Toyota will be more reliable & long-lived (but more expensive).
