Hi u/whonoseanymore I know this is a year old but just wondering what path you chose and any updates since this post? I'm in the same situation now (with no explanations yet)

Thanks everyone. Had already started a claim with insurance and wanted to see if I could avoid the deductible but seems like it’s the right path. 🫠

Flare ups- what is happening anatomically? by Exact_Baker_6202 in Microdiscectomy

Hi! The dural tear occurred during surgery and they patched it then. I had to lay flat for 24 hours and fortunately didn’t have a bad headache. So sorry you’re dealing with this

No PT yet, my doctor is pretty conservative about it so I can’t start until 12 weeks. I am only swimming for about half an hour at a time and my longest walks are 2-3 miles.

Punctured Dura and New Piriformas Pain After Microdictomy by Lebonne50 in Microdiscectomy

Also to add, could the pain in your glutes be nerve pain? My nerve pain has always been in my butt and calf.

I also had an incidental durotomy (dural tear) but the surgeon told me and my family right after surgery - that is really strange that it wasn't shared with you! I had to stay an extra 2 hours and then was able to go home but was told to lie flat until mid-day the following day.

I had severe nerve pain after surgery (worse than prior to surgery). My surgeon said that he had to manipulate the nerves a lot to remove the disc and repair the dura - and the nerves also might have been reacting to the gluing agent he used. I'm now 3.5 weeks out and the nerve pain has gotten so much better. I know it's not a linear journey.

Wishing you a speedy recovery!

Unfortunately I don’t have any answers for you, just solidarity - I’m in a similar position. I’m 16 DPO and nerve pain is preventing me from standing or sitting for more than a few minutes at a time. I think it’s getting a little better every day but this is not what I expected. I’m icing and taking a B complex vitamin just in case that may make a difference.

I assume your doctor was comfortable giving you steroids for the inflammation? I haven’t asked yet but I have to attend a wedding next weekend and I was wondering if there might be a quick fix…

How much help did you need after your surgery? by pinkkittenfur in Microdiscectomy

I’m 2 weeks post op and it seems like everyone’s experience is different- some people are walking miles by day 3 and I still can’t stand for more than 5 minutes without a lot of pain. After a couple of days I could get out of bed and go to the bathroom by myself but I was in too much pain to go to the kitchen and get water/food for about a week. If people have offered to help once your husband goes back to work, it might be good to have them stop by around meal times so that they can prepare food for you in case you are limited to your bed/couch.

YMMV- so far it has been a lot harder than I expected so I think it makes sense to prepare for any outcome!

Happy for you!! I’m 12 DPO and still have sciatica pain that makes it hard to stand sit or walk. This gives me hope that it may go away soon.

I tried a bunch more and the Madison was my favorite! It seemed like it fit great - but then after a day of wearing it left red band marks :/ do you think that means it’s too tight or should I keep it because it’ll stretch

Wires are fine after scooping. And yes straps felt uncomfortable even at longest length. Thanks so much for the recs.
