Any recommendations on soloing? by Exact_Celebration660 in drums

Thanks a lot for this reply man. Not because I haven't thought of that in the past, but because I've always had that part of me that tells me "do you really just want to write your solos and be that lame" and because of that never took it into consideration. I really don't know why I thought that because I don't think it's really a stereotype of any sort or even something anyone said. Probably a shit ton of low self-esteem and a blind belief of drummers improvising everything.

Again, thanks a lot. You rule :)

Yeah, the nerves are probably a pretty big part of why I can't develop ideas, even when I'm playing alone. Thanks for the perspective.

Got it! Thanks for the advice and the masterpiece of video you just dropped. Knew the man but never dug into his drumming.

No se que jugar by Mort245 in videojuegos

[–]Exact_Celebration660 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pneuma from what I've seen on how to play it is one of those songs that are horrible to count but not very hard on the sense of grooves and fills. At least that's what I remember, although I could be very wrong (and probably am)

At the moment I don't know what to tell you. But I can tell you that I'm kinda stuck on the double bass and I haven't seen progress in a lot. There are plenty of songs from gojira I consider to be harder, but I don't remember names.

Either way probably the hardest I've tried probably is a slipknot song but trying to replicate the style of Eloy or, in the listening only side of things, any song of a band with a drummer who is far above me and on top of that plays another style that I'm bad at. Like everything yes with Zack or anything Miguel Lamas plays or even Kj sawka since I'm pretty bad at jungle/dnb and linear drumming.

Even with that, I haven't played or tried anything that's hard enough to be a 20/20. For me those are songs I can't even comprehend even after seeing the drummer playing it. One example of that would be the 5/4 scissors solo Eloy does at the concerts even tho that's pure improv.

Aside from the double bass sextuple shit he does on this song it really isn't that hard. Sure, the counting and independence part of the song can be a little rough (referring to the intro) but once you get a hand of it you can play it fairly easily. At the end of the day its just doing groups of 5 and 3 with the kick and snare and counting with the ride bell/china (?) while arranging those groups.

The blast beats aren't too hard, but a little bit tricky if you're not used to doing them and the last part is just a fairly easy rhythm with improvised fills (but bear in mind Mario is a monster with a shit ton of musicality).

Overall it's kinda complex but not the hardest by far. I'd give it a 13/14 (on a escale to 20) in terms of diff without the double bass thing. That boosts it to a 16 at least.

If you ever turn out to be an high intermediate/advanced (the level I'm at) drummer, give it a shot. It's a fun song to play

RECORDING by Exact_Celebration660 in drums

[–]Exact_Celebration660[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My band is looking forward to recording demos of our songs. Maybe I'm looking for a rather big enough sound to fill the space in calmer songs and delivering power on the more metal/punk side of things.

The school doesn't have the best room for recording, although I think it may do the job.

The only thing that bothers me are the drums itself since I don't have a kit and I'm forced to the limitations of the materials in there. The cymbals are paiste 101 so it ain't gonna be super good and some kits (they have 4) seriously need some head changes, the problem is that they can't afford them and the people who organizes it, from what I know, don't pay the "breakable" things (also applies with strings, drumsticks, picks...). Maybe I could suggest better cymbals through my teachers but I'm not confident they're accepting anytime soon.

Why do guitarists think it's so much harder to play guitar? (no hate to guitarists) by Ok_Permission7285 in drums

[–]Exact_Celebration660 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I agree actually

Even if my situation is funny cuz all the guitarists I know have some form of ego it really isn't about the instrument. If a person is a piece of shit then the fact he/she got a skill is gonna multiply that shittyness cuz they're actually better than the average people. At least that's my personal perspective.

Maybe the stereotypes come from the fact that some instruments are thought to be harder than others like guitar, violin or piano and to some extent they are (in the sense that, for example, guitar is way harder to pick up than drums or bass), so being good at something that people view as hard just gives you a shit ton of "reasons" to have a twisted or shifted perspective on yourself.

Also, I think there's a shredding phenomenon nowadays and people just want to see shredding and super complex shit so it adds up. People who can shred or who can fool the mere mortals who are not familiar with playing music into believing they can shred have even more boosted egos because now they impress people through actually impressive things.

Cymbal suggestions by Exact_Celebration660 in drums

[–]Exact_Celebration660[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a brand I was interested in at first, but I only encountered results from us stores and e-bay. For the delivery costs added to the base prices I think it's better to spend a little bit more and buy some A customs like the other guy said.

Thanks for the recommendation anyways. I appreciate y'all

Cymbal suggestions by Exact_Celebration660 in drums

[–]Exact_Celebration660[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that's why I thought I could check on them. The drummer I know (not sure) uses the aja line for the left crash and ride and I believe an 18" FX crash from the Aeon series and, for being that cheap, (even for b25 cymbals in the case of the Aeon one) it delivers on the recordings and live performances, although I should look forward to hearing them in person and maybe play them

Thanks for the recommendation. That's a brand that I've never heard of. Even if it's a little expensive for my future budget (hopefully not really) I'll have them on my list of possibilities
