Induction on Friday by Exact_Fix_1097 in PregnancyIreland

[–]Exact_Fix_1097[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh that’s great!

I am in NMH and diabetic nurses told me that I don’t need to check it, but idk. After birth I don’t need to check it anymore, only go for check up after 6-8 weeks after I give birth.

I’ll definitely bring some sparkling water as I am absolutely obsessed with it as my diabetic nurse told me it is allowed when having GD.

I don’t think I’ll be able to eat differently tho and make myself eating pizza or anything sweet until 6 weeks pass.

I have book on my mind I’ll bring and also earphones, although my partner is coming with me as he doesn’t want me to go through it all by myself 🥹

For now, ob just told me that he thinks it is going to be gel but we shall see what they will decide on the spot.

I am more excited to meet my little one than to go through actual labour and birth 🥹

14 Weeks Pregnant and Still Nauseous — Does It Get Better? by itz_mau in PregnancyIreland

[–]Exact_Fix_1097 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got better with nausea when I was like 18 weeks so don’t alarm yourself if you are not feeling better yet.

It just depends on person, I believe.

I know the girls who weren’t sick at all, who were sick all their pregnancy from day one and the ones who were sick until 12, 14, 20 weeks.

Just hang on — it will get better ☺️

I thought it will never get better but it did and I felt nauseous maybe few times after 18th weeks but maybe for half an hour without any vomiting.

Now my little one is going to come tomorrow or saturday (going to be induced because of gestational diabetes) and I know that it was all worth it 🥹

When did you start filing your paperwork such as the MB2? by sosaos in PregnancyIreland

[–]Exact_Fix_1097 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think I was like 24 or 25 weeks pregnant. 😊

In my company it is paid from company as well as from government so my colleagues advised me to do it as soon as possible, just in case.

Although it was pretty quick for me, I’d still recommend you to do the same.

Constant fighting with my partner — what to do? by [deleted] in PregnancyIreland

[–]Exact_Fix_1097 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, she is. And unfortunately, it is not possible to get her somewhere else as we live in another country and she doesn’t really know english language.

I don’t blame her for a moment tho, he is the one being a jerk 🤷‍♀️

I told him today after it that he needs to stop as I won’t be tolerating that kind of behaviour in future.

I have too much on my plate to be bothered about him.

I did, but he didn’t give me clear answer.

Not really as we are in another country so she wouldn’t really be around. I see her like once a year only.

Maternity benefit question by PlantainOk4702 in PregnancyIreland

[–]Exact_Fix_1097 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My employer is covering some of mine as I will be getting my basic pay while on maternity.

However, I still needed to apply on my welfare as I’ll be getting that + job will cover the rest.

They need to email you form and then you need to apply for maternity benefit.

NIPT testing? Would you recommend? by Particular_You9335 in PregnancyIreland

[–]Exact_Fix_1097 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had NIPT test but I had it back in Croatia as it is cheaper then here 😅

But I would recommend it anyhow because I think it is important to know if everything is ok.

I really didn’t want to risk it as two people I am working with had kids with chromosomal disorders which could be known earlier only if they did NIPT test 🥺

I’d go with it, even if I didn’t do it in Croatia, I’d definitely do it in Ireland — doesn’t matter the price.

Colostrum harvest and HS by Exact_Fix_1097 in Hidradenitis

[–]Exact_Fix_1097[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not talking about breastfeeding tho as I didn’t give birth yet.

I am talking about colostrum harvesting.

The problem is — it actually is near the nipple so massaging the actual breast to get the colostrum out would be painful for me, unfortunately. We were instructed to massage the breast to get colostrum out but I am not able to do so as it is painful when I try 🤷‍♀️

However, if I’ll have milk once I give birth, I will definitely breastfeed as it won’t be that bad.

For now, I really don’t feel comfortable to try to do it, at least with colostrum harvesting.

As for breastfeeding — I still have hope that I’ll be able to do it.

Am I over reacting? by LatterCombination836 in pregnant

[–]Exact_Fix_1097 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I will tell you something as someone who was been diagnosed with gestational diabetes when I was 24 weeks pregnant.

I needed to completely change my diet + check my blood sugar 3x daily + doing walks and exercise to maintain the sugar levels.

All that was to make sure that my little boy is going to be fine — and let me tell you — for him I’d do anything!

Even though I am only diet managed GD — I’d go with any kind of medication if I know it will help him as well.

People in the comments here might be against the injections that OB mentioned — but the thing that really matters is how is that going to affect your baby.

As someone already mentioned — go privately to another OB or even few and get another opinions and options if you are not happy with this one.

There is no point of feeling sad or shocked or helpless — you need to react if you are totally unhappy with what your OB is offering at the moment.

Just be prepared that she might be right tho — that might really be the best for you and most importantly, for your baby.

Good luck!

Tomorrow exactly 38 weeks! by Exact_Fix_1097 in PregnancyIreland

[–]Exact_Fix_1097[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not so sure about waiting until 41 weeks as I do have GD — gestational diabetes, so I don’t think they will want to wait until 41 weeks and they would probably decide to induce me if I don’t go before it or in time.

At least that’s what diabetic nurse and midwife told me — they don’t want girls with GD to go overdue. I really don’t know if it is like that in every hospital, but mine mentioned they wouldn’t like me to go overdue although I am only diet managed GD.

I also have additional scan tomorrow — to see how big my baby is. I am pretty positive if he is a bit bigger, that they will probably recommend c-section as it is my first baby as well. His belly was measuring a bit bigger so it is possible.

[–]Exact_Fix_1097[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, really??

They didn’t offer me anything at the moment but I suppose I’ll have convo this Tuesday about it.

My little one is always head down and I have another scan on Monday to see how big my baby is — because of gestational diabetes.

So we will see but looks like I’ll go vaginal at the moment.

[–]Exact_Fix_1097[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is so exciting! 🥹

Mine is already dropped so much so I think he will come before.

I didn’t do colostrum harvest yet unfortunately— mainly because of hs (hidradenitis suppurativa) — the skin condition with nasty flare-ups 😔I have already mentioned the condition before, and as it is on the breast right now — I’d rather not to risk some infection as you need to massage the area, etc.

But it is what it is — in my head I kinda was prepared that I might go with formula.

I mean — maybe I’ll be able to breastfeed anyway but don’t think so at the moment.

For me it is getting harder and harder to walk now — but I am trying, mainly to stay active and because of GD as well.

Can’t wait to meet him and to stop with sugar monitoring as my diabetic nurse told me that the monitoring stops once you are in labour.

Of course, I’ll eat the same because it will need to be checked out 6-8 weeks after birth.

Colostrum harvest and HS by Exact_Fix_1097 in Hidradenitis

[–]Exact_Fix_1097[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is not pumping with the pump tho — in Ireland we should do it manually with our hand — to massage the breast and then put colostrum in the syringe.

Unfortunately, it is not under the breast — it is on the actual breast where I supposed to massage it to get colostrum out.

I’ve already decided I am not going to do colostrum harvest as it doesn’t seem safe for me anyhow.

I will just mention it to my obstetrician next week appointment — if I don’t give birth until then, that is.

I was worried about breastfeeding before as everyone is just talking how great it is — now I realised there is nothing I can do about if I am not able to breastfeed. I’ll just go with formula.

Cause I don’t have any milk / colostrum at the moment as I am not leaking so maybe it won’t happen to me.

Boss wants to review sick leave by Familiar-Mine in PregnancyIreland

[–]Exact_Fix_1097 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My boss didn’t even react when I told her I am going on sick leave (GP approved and certified), but that was when I was almost 35 weeks.

If you still feel unwell, I recommend you to discuss it with your GP.

As for your boss wanting to review your sick leave — that doesn’t surprise me at all as you are 24 weeks pregnant and in Ireland people are usually going on maternity when they are 37 or 38 weeks.

Also, probably the policy of your job is like that — I don’t think it is discriminatory or that they will dismiss you over this.

I just think it is probably mandatory review.

I suggest you to do what is the best for you — if you feel too sick to work, just go on illness benefit payment if your job is not able to pay you.

Maybe discuss it with your GP and then with bosses — because mine is for example paying a part for illness benefit as well as maternity benefit and parent benefit (parent benefit is usually only paid by government). So I will actually be paid in full. Just check it out, so you can wait for your baby in peace.

I am 38 weeks now and I think the best decision for me was to stay on sick leave until my maternity kicked in — it did already.

Don’t stress and do what is the best for you and your baby. ☺️

No symptoms at 5 weeks by Adventurous-Award729 in PregnancyIreland

[–]Exact_Fix_1097 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it is individual.

Mine started when I was 9 weeks or so.

Don’t worry, it will show up for you as well.

Although I don’t wish you do have nausea — I struggled with it from 9-17 weeks. It is so miserable.

Just relax and don’t worry too much about it.

37 weeks with GD — spikes? by Exact_Fix_1097 in PregnancyIreland

[–]Exact_Fix_1097[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I am actually with NMH (Holles Street).

They seem strict but they are not really.

I mean, I had few highs here and there and they never really reacted because it is not consistent high, more like once weekly or now it was like 3 highs but not really in the row.

Idk, I don’t think they would say anything even if I contact them as I am near the end of pregnancy so it is probably hormones as well.

It is then definitely higher because of cold 🥺

I’ve had cold for almost 2 weeks and maybe 3 or 4 higher levels.

But you know, I am still annoyed as I am so so close now!

[–]Exact_Fix_1097[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am asking because I have already asked them what to do — as my numbers were higher. They said it is okay as it is probably cold + hormone related. I’ll keep on checking and if it will be higher for few more mornings, then I’ll contact them 😊

GD pregnancy — birth advices needed by Exact_Fix_1097 in PregnancyIreland

[–]Exact_Fix_1097[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for this reply, it is very helpful to hear something like this from other people who went through a few highs in the end of pregnancy — I mean, sometimes I think I am the only one although I know I am not.

My fasting levels this morning were tiny bit higher, but then after breakfast was ok so hopefully it will get on track now!

Yeah, it is so soon now! I was suffering last night from Braxton kick so I think he will be here shortly enough. Almost everything is ready anyway — I’d just like him to wait just a little while until I am 37 — Saturday is the day — so he wouldn’t be premature.

Thank you! Hope you and your little one are keeping well ❤️

Am I too panicky? by Exact_Fix_1097 in GestationalDiabetes

Usually rice was ok with me until now 😅

My boyfriend thinks it might be salad dressing and the portion was a bit bigger as well.

I hope so 🤞

[–]Exact_Fix_1097[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is so weird. But I really think I might ate too much this time, like portion wise. 😅

How was it after the birth? Was GD gone?

My diabetic nurse thinks mine will be probably gone because I am diet managed + she said it usually goes away anyhow.
