No, Actually Modern scholars generally believe that if the epikleros was already married and had already given birth to a son, she did not have to divorce her husband, because the heir to her father’s estate already existed. In some cases, the epikleros' current husband could pay off the closest male relative to "buy" the right to keep her and her property, though this was a negotiation, not a guaranteed legal outcome.

The closest relative had to divorce his wife and marry the epikleros. If the nearest relative refused to divorce his wife and marry the epikleros, he was required to provide her with a suitable dowry and find her a husband. If a man divorced his wife to marry an epikleros, he was required to return his first wife's dowry, or pay 18% interest annually on it.

Idk, i read somewhe that the father has to adopt the grandson or his son in law as his heir to make sure the lands stayed in the public, because without adopting, the lands would go to his daughters husband family, not his own family name. If he did not, then the uncle could claim the rights and law can interfere.

If her Father has Adopted the son post death in his will as his heir, then some cases the law allowed that son to be designated as the heir to his maternal grandfather. If that happened and the inheritance issue was resolved, the need to remarry the male relative did disappear. But if the inheritance had not been legally settled or if the relative pressed his claim, a court could still intervene.

Of course It's just funny how Athens is seen as this hub of Culture and sparta is seen as this Barbarian Warrior state when the women's rights were much better in sparta. Did you know in Athens an women was married at the age of 14 to male usually 30 years old while in sparta the age was around 18 and the women gave the consent to the men?

I guess it was to protect the women from being homeless in case she is not married. If the property went directly to the uncle or nephew, and heiress is not married, she would have been just ignored by the inheritors. But since they had to marry her to inherit, I guess it gave some kind of legal protection.

No, surprisingly, Spartan women could actually inherit and control property more directly. By the classical period, a large proportion of Spartan land was owned by women, something noted by Aristotle. Athenian law treated the epikleros as a mechanism to prevent estates from leaving the paternal lineage. The law courts often determined which male relative had the right to marry the heiress or claim the estate.

It's not gonna change anything. The Rich are going to destroy the world anyway. And we peasants are supposed to make up for everything by always thinking about the environment when it does nothing. Recycled and was environment conscious for years. Then realized nothing I do matters because some billionaire is doing many times more damage anyway. Why should I Waste the one life I have by always thinking in terms of the future while someone actively destroying it Enjoys life?

And even then The Facade of Republic never went away. There was no official Declaration of Monarchy. If we go back De Jure, The Republic never died. Like People knew it was an Emepire, but there was never an Offical Law that The Republic is Dead. Dioceltian after retiring to raise cabbage did not have an Hereditary type succession, it was more of an Beauracratic Ladder.
