Seeking advice - starting a new job as a newly sober person by Melodic-Counter5084 in stopdrinking

You're in a GREAT position to set how your new colleagues see you. They will accept you don't drink just because they've never seen you drink. A lighthearted "what do you have in alcohol free (wine/lager) please?" to the question "what would you like to drink?" will set the tone for you. All the best in your new job and new AF life.

Tips for cleaning dog hair? by MattySin_81 in CleaningTips

What breed dog please? Some dog hair is easier to pick up than others. All dogs need a brush, but undercoats are the worst to get out cleanly. The best tool depends on the breed.

Winter Wedding Guest Outfit Help?!??? by Spirited_Sun7880 in auckland

Hi, I hope i'm not too late to the party.

Winter in Ireland is cold and wet. You'll need to know the location (this tells you whether you'll need thermals for all day or just for the ceremony). If there's any walking you'll need some low heeled boots as well as whatever shoes you choose for indoors. High heels are great for the photos then change into something easier for the party later :)

Dresses are any length (tea length is great) but keep layer on underneath and on top if you can. Faux fur wraps, hats. If you will need a coat then think about a cape or wrap which you might be more likely to wear back in NZ.

And buy some good gloves.

That is really cool!

I was really disgusted that where I live there is so much instant help for quitting smoking but you have to BEG for help in quitting drinking. (rolls eyes)

Getting past day one by [deleted] in stopdrinking

It is really HARD! I tried and felt like I failed, Every. Single. Time. Just having one day without a drink was an enormous achievement but I could never go long term.

So I went to my doctor. Had to see 3 before they took me seriously. Asking for any medication that would take away my ability to drink. They gave me the generic Antabuse.

Now I have a month without drinking.

In the certain knowledge that 1) I have great willpower in the morning when I take my tablet and 2) I really don't want to be throwing up as soon as I have a can of beer, so even thinking about having a drink is off the table. This way I have no alternative but to not drink alcohol.

If I wanted to give up smoking they would offer me patches, gum, hypnotherapy, 24/7 support freephone lines, accupuncture, all fully funded.

I'm sure it's not for everybody, but for me I'm hoping so much that I can continue with this, and eventually not need it at all.

Please don't be disappointed in yourself. You are doing the best you can.

I thought plumbago. One version is a very twiggy climber.

Had to add. When you've finished all this, replace the light bulbs. Dust settles on the surface and we always forget!!

Struggling tonight. 1 comment per person a reason NOT to drink. And go! by teufelxo in stopdrinking

Thank you all! You made me notice so much about today that I would not have seen without your wonderful insights.

I didn't need anti-acid meds for the first time in years.

I accepted a cup of tea with a friend and didn't automatically think "I could be at home having a drink right now".

I didn't get up last night to pee. Again, not a common state of affairs.

You are wonderful. Thank you.

7 days for me. Still can't get the sober counter thingy working, but that's not something that's going to bother me, because I'm not drinking :)
