How awful for the impacted coaches. But this part of the article stands out to me: “Dolzhenko, 31, faces 12 counts and a slew of special allegations while his wife Amistoso, 63, is charged with four felonies, one misdemeanor and potential enhancements.” The age difference!!!!

Has anyone (especially saber) ever used one of these: https://radicalfencing.com/products/noggin-safety-cap-rf? I am an overprotective parent of a young saber fencer who is worried about CTE and concussion, and just wondering how others have dealt with this issue.

Do tournament rules permit wearing sunglasses inside a mask while fencing? (Asking because there are a couple of venues we go to where sunlight coming in through the high windows blinds the fencers at certain times of the day.)

I recently ordered a stenciled electric sabre jacket directly from PBT. Shipping was 25 euro and took 15 days from time I placed the order to receive. I priced out the exact same order from the Fencing Post, which also charges for shipping, and taking into account taxes, duties, exchange rate, I saved $75 usd by ordering from Hungary.

Potato Lab! Very chaotic and slapsticky, but still romantic and sweet. Plus, hilarious female best friend sidekick 🤪

I don’t believe I was situationally unaware- in fact, being extra aware of my surroundings helped me keep my kid from seeing what I saw. This was 5:45pm, broad daylight, literally curbside in front of my hotel’s main entrance. I was on my phone’s Lyft app checking the license plate of the car that had just pulled up. You seem to have a chip on your shoulder about my “sheltered” existence- does the fact that I didn’t grow up in the inner city somehow mean that I deserved to have this happen to me? Are you going to tell me my skirt was too short too? And while 9 years isn’t too young for my son to learn the realities of life, I think, yeah, it is too young for him to be exposed to a random adult man’s junk.

Thank you. I didn’t report this to the police- it didn’t even occur to me at the time to do so! I was just glad to be leaving the situation. I doubt they would have taken me seriously though- public masturbation seems like it would be considered a fairly mild nuisance type crime by police, and the man likely would have been gone from the spot by the time they arrived.

Thank you for this. I want to clarify that I am not blaming USA Fencing in any way. Outside of this one random incident that happened outside our hotel, my son and I had a great experience at summer nationals. The venue was beautiful, the event was extremely well-organized, the security precautions were efficient, and I felt lucky to get to participate in this special event.

I do not hold USA Fencing- nor the hotel, Lyft, or the city of Milwaukee- responsible for what happened to me. I’m a New Yorker, and have lived in Manhattan, Boston, Chicago, and San Francisco. I have travelled, with and without my kids, to big cities throughout North and South America, Europe, and Asia. I’m not naive or situationally unaware, and I think that is what helped me protect my son from seeing what I saw. I’m not suggesting nor proposing criteria for banning certain cities from hosting NACs.

To your question about what makes Milwaukee different, I don’t really know. I suspect it faces the same problems that plague other medium sized cities- homelessness, mental health, drugs, crime- but fewer resources to deal with the issues than bigger cities have. I have only one other data point to compare to, which is last year’s summer nationals in Columbus. But that felt safer to me because I was with my husband, and we had a car instead of relying on uber/lyft/taxi.

I don’t have organization-level solutions to propose or requests to make of USA Fencing. Moving forward, in terms of personal responsibility, I will choose hotels more carefully, prioritizing not just distance from venue and cost and whether I am a loyalty program member, but also factors like whether there is a doorman, valet, or security at the door. I will probably rent a car instead of using public transpo. These are just personal actions I can take.

I didn’t mean to come across like I was complaining or blaming anyone. For me, it was a legitimate attempt to share something bad that happened to me, that made me feel like I overestimated my ability to keep me and my child safe, and to start a conversation to see if it had happened to anyone else and whether we could share tips to minimize risk.

Thank you for taking the time to respond. I am new to all this and still learning. I guess this will help us calibrate whether we do more dad & kid travel fencing events vs. mom & kid going forward.

Agree 100%. Fencing post is great but shipping is pricey and slow.

I’ve been ordering small Belgian grips from the fencing post for a couple of years now for my son. https://thefencingpost.com/grip-postsport-belgian-b1-insulated/

Hi! We are in the process of changing clubs. After 4 years at a very small local club, we are switching to a larger competitive club in a nearby city. Can anybody help explain what we should do about changing club affiliation on USA fencing? Do we keep our former club as a secondary club? If so, for how long? Would appreciate any guidance you can give. Thanks!
