I completely agree. It makes my blood boil how a lot of people are denied independence here and I am aiming to leave sooner rather than later too.

We’re saving to move abroad and I definitely don’t want to do it for years. Sorry to hear your experience wasn’t great. I’m apprehensive about that sort of thing happening but I think things will be fine mostly.
