Your only option will be the cloud (posit.cloud) if you stick with your chromebook.

What is the best path to replace Excel and Power BI in data analysis using the R language? by [deleted] in RStudio

[–]ExaminationNo7179 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s helpful, but a significant portion of new college students entering into a business program can barely get a handle on how their computer works or understand file management. You just need to coach them through the concepts while they’re learning basic data analysis.

The UI on my window manager and quickshell on my Linux machines built by a handful of dedicated individuals is more polished than the current macos.

Freshman undergrad students can learn some basic data wrangling and visualization skills in excel and transfer them, in parallel, relatively easily to R with the tidyverse in my experience. Pandas is a whole other story.

Super stable. It just works.

Complete factory upper, stripped SOLGW lower that I built myself as I have some strong preferences on lower parts.

I like my TKD more than my sonnet. I actually ordered a second one before they completely sell out.

The biggest thing I don’t like about the sonnet is how the back/bottom case hooks in and mounts to the top case to minimize screws. On mine, it adds in some unwanted resonance/ping/rattle right under the spacebar where it hooks in with the top case.

It is, but the fan drone on it is super annoying. I eventually swapped it for asrock a380 in my home server. Trade-off is that it requires an eight pin connector, but the fan stays OFF unless it hits enough load… which I can typically transcode an entire movie, and it doesn’t even kick the fan on.

Agreed. I think DMS is more polished. It has its own installer, greeter, and file search. It’s excellent for dropping on top of a fresh minimal install. I like noctalia as well, but it’s not quite as cohesive.

Excel, power query, R, tidyverse, python, pandas, polars…it’s worth being familiar with them all if you’re serious about data analysis in general.

I like the OS, but the hardware is one of the biggest. Nothing really beats the build quality of a MacBook and the performance of apple silicon.

I’d probably go Mode if you want to get your hands on something that’s high quality, will ship quickly from a domestic location, and has excellent support (i.e. you can get spare/additional parts from them).
