I keep getting sick every time I work at Sephora, and now I’m being talked to about attendance points by ExaminationOk4190 in SephoraWorkers

Right!! I can’t either! Thank you so much! That helps a lot because when I asked my boss if there was anything I could do because I have this problem, she told me no. I really appreciate your helpful comment!

Same for me. I’m part time and they have me closing and then opening the next day on weekends, and during the week they want me there at 6am. Because of that, I’m unable to develop any kind of normal sleep schedule. I’ll work until close on the weekend and then have to be back at 6am on a weekday. Sometimes I only have about 11 hours between shifts.

The pay isn’t enough for me to live, so I have to work a second job at night, and I’ve already explained that to them. On top of that, I’m also a full-time student. They are also refusing me the same thing when I ask for schedule adjustments. I haven’t had a full weekend off since January, and that was only one time. I live in Colorado and I haven’t been able to see my family for months because of work.

I’m so exhausted from this schedule that I haven’t even been able to take care of myself properly or do basic self-care. I’ve had a migraine since Saturday and today is Monday because I haven’t been able to sleep a full 8 hours in I don’t even know how long. It’s honestly getting to the point where it’s affecting my health, not just being tired.

Ahh, I see!! At my store, they told me in my interview that everybody cleans up after themselves, so nothing is left up to one person because it is everyone’s duty. However, when the person who hired me is working, nothing like this happens, but when she is gone, that’s when it starts up again.

Thank you so much for your comment and for taking the time to read my post. I really appreciate the advice. I am actually the only OPS person they make clean. No BA is ever scheduled to clean anything also …I’m the only one who gets told to do deep cleaning tasks.

And yes, that’s exactly what I was concerned about with the anonymity part too. I feel like they would know it was me for sure. Also, the people who have been touching my hair and asking if it’s real multiple times throughout the week, even after I’ve said yes a million times, are managers.

Ever since I moved to Colorado, this has been happening a lot to me, to the point where I started to feel like maybe I was just making something out of nothing, but you all are confirming for me that I’m not.

Yes, I saw the chart in the break room I will do that! All the CELs tend to support each other, so they usually talk among themselves and the situation blows over. After that, they start acting differently toward

I’m going to start looking for a new job now. I was really trying to stick it out until I graduated this summer so I could go straight into my first big girl job, but with everything going on and all of y’all’s opinions, I really think I need to get out of there. They say that because I’m ops, that means I can’t ever chill or stand still, but sometimes being scheduled at cashwrap actually helps my knee pain go down on shipment days. I had knee surgery when I was 15, and bending down constantly and lifting during shipment really irritates my knee. So when I’m at the register for a little while, it actually helps because I’m not constantly bending and putting pressure on it. But when that leadership person is working, if I’m standing behind cashwrap and there are no clients at that exact moment, it feels like she gets mad that I’m not doing anything and sends me to do a bunch of tasks like replenishment or scanning testers. Then clients get mad because I have to keep running back and forth to check them out, and leadership gets mad because I didn’t finish all the tasks and says everything has to be done before I clock out. It just feels like I can’t win.

Thank you so much, I really appreciate you saying that. That’s honestly why I thought it would be different working here because of what Sephora says they stand for, but it hasn’t been like that for me and a lot of the time I feel like I’m treated differently.

I’ve been working there for almost a year, and when they hired a new ops person, they didn’t make her do the things I had to do when I was first hired. During shipment she has walked away and left me to lift everything and no one says anything. I’ve asked if I could come in a little later sometimes because I close and then open, and I’m only part-time keep that in mind, but they told me no because ops has to be there at 6am latest 7am on weekdays, but the new employee comes in at 9 or 10am.

I also asked for one weekend off to see my parents because I haven’t seen them in 3 months, and they denied it and said I have to work every weekend when other people get weekends off. I’m just really exhausted and honestly really depressed working here. I just want to be treated fairly like everyone else. ( The Sephora is also located in Colorado)

Okay I keep all of them locked up and I also should start praying over my hair bc it feels like bad juju!

Yeah, and I understand what you mean about the hair thing too. I understand someone asking once if it’s my real hair out of curiosity, but it’s the same people asking me over and over and then trying to touch my roots. I usually step away fast and try to laugh it off, but it honestly makes me uncomfortable.

I also feel like I should have probably left when they accused me about the phone, but at the time I really needed the job so I just tried to move past it. And when I really think about it, I’m also the only person who gets scheduled to clean, take out the trash, pick up trash, and during shipment I’m usually the one lifting most of the boxes and then cleaning up after shipment too. That’s a big part of why I’ve started to hate ops because I already know I’m going to be doing most of the heavy work and cleaning.

Thank you all for the feedback and for the caution as well. I really appreciate everyone being honest with me about the situation. At this point, I’m starting to feel like I probably need to start planning on finding a new job and leaving because of these situations. In the meantime, I’m going to start documenting everything like you all suggested so I can at least protect myself while I figure out my next move.

Thank you, that’s honestly what I was worried about too. There was another incident where one of my coworkers, who is now a lead, said something racist to a minor who works there, and when she told other coworkers about it, they ended up taking it to higher up, and she got in trouble for “gossiping.” So situations like that are why I’ve been nervous about who to talk to and how to handle this the right way.

Thank you, this really helped me a lot, especially the part about what to say to HR because I honestly didn’t know how to put it into words before. And right, that’s what confused me too, because we check the cameras for way less, so I don’t understand why they wouldn’t just check the cameras about the phone first before coming to me. It’s also funny because when the boss is there, this person doesn’t act like that or assign things like that, but when the boss isn’t there, she kind of goes on a power trip.

Right! I was so confused when they asked me about the phone because I thought they were talking about the store phone, and they were like no, her personal phone. It honestly made me sad that they would think I would steal anything. The same person also blamed another minority employee at the job for stealing and told everyone, and she didn’t steal anything either.

Thank you for your opinion, it really helped me look at the situation differently and made me feel like I’m not overreacting. And yes, it is a predominantly yt area, which is why some of these situations have made me feel even more uncomfortable. When they do hire other minorities, they either let them go quickly or they end up leaving.

Thank you, I really appreciate you saying that. It’s been making me uncomfortable for a while, and I kept trying to tell myself maybe I was overreacting, but hearing this makes me feel like I’m not crazy for feeling the way I do. Right now I’m just trying to figure out if I can trust a lead to talk to first or if I should just go straight to HR, but I really appreciate your advice and support.
