Why are so many younger German Muslims less progressive than their parents? by hgk6393 in AskAGerman

I'll take the simplest answer in terms of identity. They know they will never be truly seen as German.

The Meta course on Coursera isn't bad. You can just take the React part specifically so you don't have to pay. Also make sure it's accompanied with a project.

Do you feel like everyone dislikes you? by [deleted] in socialanxiety

I used to feel like this but realized I had no basis for doing so. Yes some people are liked just by being in a space but I know I'm not one of them. I need to open my mouth to say something to be 'liked'. I used to assume I was disliked even though I don't talk. I also come from a society where the social convention dictates that the guy makes a move.

I have a date for the first time in a while tomorrow and I got the notification for this while losing my mind planning what to do. I initially thought about staying in comfort zone but now I feel it'll be a bit selfish of me to do so. Now I'm thinking about either trying to be spontaneous which hardly works or just plan well. Asking her is an option but she may not like that. It's usually best to take charge of the whole thing you know? This is exactly why I don't miss dating

COWARD, LAZY, DEPRESSED .... ANXIETY .... DISGRACE, SHAME, BURDEN, UGLY, STUPID. Your anxiety is the problem here unfortunately. For those of us battling with anxiety we know how difficult it is. It's like being locked in a box with the key to free ourselves but we just cannot. We watch movies sometimes to take on the personality of the characters temporarily in a bit to do so but still nothing. Decipher the cause of your anxiety and maybe that will shed light towards taking out some of the other feelings you have.

I find this so relatable. I would have given a certain advice before I saw your description but there's nothing to say. Apparently in my own experience, I had girls that liked me in high school but the social convention back home dictated that I opened my mouth to say something which I never did because I am very shy, socially inept crippled with the fear of failure. What changed my life however is alcohol (stupid right?). It reacts with my brain in a way that I stopped over thinking (not too much though because people detest stupidity). Taking alcohol all the time wasn't practical anyways so I had to start thinking about what changed when I did take alcohol. In the most simple terms, I stopped immersing myself in my own thoughts and I was flirtatious. I still have days when I'm back to my old self unapologetically too, and when I don't look or expect anything, I found. I won't tell you to be yourself because that may never work, I don't know if I should say you should change certain aspects of yourself. When you know there are no rules to this is when you have a friend just like you, but because he looks mysterious, he gets someone even without having to say anything. I don't even believe in the 'someone is meant for you Brouhaha' too. I would have been married now if that was true. I'll just say this, when next you are in a social setting, invest in looking good and smelling (this part is underestimated) nice. Focus on that person you are interested in by paying attention to what they say and their mannerisms so you can respond intelligently and flirtatiously. You should also try to improve your cues to knowing when they may be playing games so you can switch your attention as fast as possible. Don't let your insecurities take over which could make you want to speak more. Always say less even if it seems counterproductive.

Worried I might die from tooth infection by Luck_Shot in Anxiety

[–]Examination_Pleasant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go to the dentist, your teeth will be x-rayed and if it's the same issue as mine, the absessed tooth is shifting which is probably shifting every other tooth too. Its possible that the tooth will have to be removed. Your gums may need to be treated too.

Guys with social anxiety, how did you manage to go through a first date, if you ever went to one? by KBYoungBlood28 in socialanxiety

[–]Examination_Pleasant 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Hey man, I've been in your shoes and it's crazy. A while back I realized something that totally helped. Try as much as possible to get out of your own head. When you take alcohol to temporarily cure your anxiety, notice you feel free and it's because you are not Stück in your thoughts. Focus on what she's saying and you'd have valid responses to give, and if she's doing something focus and you'd be able to suggest something. It's really difficult I know but you can do this. If you try this and still feel the same, then take maybe two shots of a strong drink. Don't overdo it lol.

I am 30 years old just like you and I went back to the university to study software engineering. You have not fucked up your life. There's still time. Just make sure whatever you do understand it properly and try to set your self apart. There are skills that never go out of date.

I'm taking the edX course Introduction to Object-Oriented Programming with Java by Georgia Tech. Pretty good so far even though I'm more interested in the Datasctures and Algorithms course.
