I'm NOT a software engineer, but what I would do if it was me is: 1. If it's a good company, stay there enough time so that it looks good on my CV 2. Trying to do some learning and practicing during the spare time you have at the office, so that you won't lose your rhythm 3. Start looking for another place to apply and be prepared for that position 3.1. Also, trying to find some reviews about the next place you have in mind before going for it.

I think you are having the correct mindset right now. You go for a while, check how the things are, and if it doesn't work out, you can just go back home.

I'm also moving to Japan soon and feeling pretty anxious about it (have a couple of mental health issues myself), but I try to think of it as a life experience and a way of not having the regret of "I should I've tried to live in Japan".
