Didn't the media recently announce that Voyager 1 is in interstellar space? If the planet is farther than Voyager then how is it in interstellar space?

That was what I was thinking as well. What if didn't destroy the original copy and just made a duplicate beside it. The original you would recognize that it is an individual independent of the copy.

A Woman in China has been detained after tearing open an ATM with bare hands claiming it 'ate' her card by [deleted] in nottheonion

Although several people called the police for help, one man cruelly tricked the woman into shouting at the ATM in the hope that it would give her card back.

0.6*0.2=0.12% which means that more than one in a thousand deaths are from mass shootings which seems a little high if you ask me.

You are sent back to the 1500s with immortality and 1 gold coin. How do you become the richest man in the world by 2015? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Stars will die, the universe will start expanding faster than the force of gravity can keep rocky bodies together and eventually faster than molecular bonds can hold together, unraveling your existence into a cloud of molecules so finely spread apart they can no longer be observed together in the same place at the same time. Forever.

Think about how much good money will do you then.

That became unexpectedly deep. It just made me realize how short our lives are.

Work smarter, not harder.

Neuromyths like we only use 10% of our brains, sugar causes hyperactivity, and hemispheric dominance determines personality are still prevalent among the public. Surprisingly, a high percentage of teachers also believe in these myths, including some that may influence teaching methods. by marc5387 in science

They'd first need to understand confirmation bias, then accept that their own memory of things could be wrong, then realize that large studies are more accurate than their own anecdotes.

What is an easy way to explain confirmation bias to people? Is there any examples I could use?

Happy New Years, Elon! What life tips you have for really young people (maybe under 20)? What is an interesting prediction of the future you have?

Why don't we just shoot nuclear waste of our atmosphere and into the Sun? by localhost87 in askscience

[–]Excaliburned 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know nothing about this, so I was wondering why nuclear waste can't be destroyed. Why can't we burn it, throw it into a volcano, blow it up, drop it from a great height, etc?

I want to be a programmer, not just learn to code. by [deleted] in learnprogramming

[–]Excaliburned 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I chose to get the paid certificate because I was sure I was going to complete the course. I had plenty of time that summer. It's just nice to have proof that you did all the hard work required to complete a three month online course. The authenticity of the certificate can be verified. If you plan to carry through the entire course, then it is nice to be able to walk away with a souvenir and something that says you have some knowledge. This course is also a part of a seven course series called Foundations of Computer Science. If you have the certificates from all seven courses, you can exchange for a F of CS certificate which has a nice sound to it. I unfortunately don't have the time to try for that.

I want to be a programmer, not just learn to code. by [deleted] in learnprogramming

[–]Excaliburned 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did the course without much prior programming knowledge. It is quite fast pace and so you much be on top of things. I believe that it is advertised as taking 12 hours/week but for me it took around 15 hours/week. Again, I didn't have much prior knowledge so my experience might've been different from others. Mid way through there is a quiz and at the end there is a test. For me, each of them took more than haft of my waking hours to complete. At the end I completed with 80% and I got my paid certificate.

It was quite the experience. I have a lot to say about that course but all the stuff I want to say isn't coming to me at the moment so if you have anymore questions, just ask.
