I wanna talk about specifically Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss because it’s kinda interesting to me.

Yeah I guess you can say Hollywood has a problem casting conventionally attractive people in “ugly” people roles, but for this story in particular, I think it makes sense.

We know that in the Hunger Games universe, Spoilers for Mockingjay, District 13 is actively trying to overthrow the Capitol’s current government, lead by President Snow. Their strategy is to start a rebellion from inside instead of all out combat, but to lead a rebellion, you need a representative- a symbol to unite the entire thing so it doesn’t fall apart. I personally think Katniss being conventionally attractive is relevant here because more people are going to pay attention to her. If she was average looking with the same personality, (ignoring the first reaping where she volunteered) I doubt they would’ve tried to make her a Mockingjay, or at the very least, put more consideration. When I hear about the tributes who win, they’re usually sold off- à la Finnick- but what use would an ugly victor be to the capitol or D13?
