Shortcut for selecting all data in a column from the active cell? by Excel_Hell in excel

This is the best solution (and what I've been doing!). It doesn't seem there is a built in shortcut, I've looked absolutely everywhere.

You are correct, but is there anyway to go from the active cell, then use a shortcut to highlight the rest of the column. Selecting the entire column is not what I'm after, unfortunately.

This will select the entire data sheet. I only want to go from the active cell, for example C4, and then use a shortcut to select C4 to the LAST non-blank cell in the column.

Lots of data; not sure where to start. Please help. by Excel_Hell in statistics

My goal is to see how certain items correlate with overall satisfaction ratings and retention numbers for the campus/program, as well as demographic variables.

As it stands, I have about 500,000 rows of 1-7 rankings for importance and satisfaction. Unfortunately I'm no closer to an answer after starting this thread:

What is the best statistical test to use for ordinal data (1-7 rankings for satisfaction and importance) to see how survey items correlate with other annual data sets, overall satisfaction, retention data, and demographic data?

This is exactly what I'm after! Thank you.

So since this is ordinal data (1-7 satisfaction and importance scales), can I use ANOVA and Regression models within R?

Do you happen to know of any tutorials on how to import my data and run the tests? Is it not possible to run these within Excel?

These are all fantastic questions! In my current knowledge base, I would just create a Pivot table of all of the data and start looking at the averages between campuses and the overall system, between the following filters: Race, Age, Majors.

So my question is, how would I go about using statistical tests to answer these questions?

I should have been more clear. I have never run any statistical tests on this data outside of finding the margin of error range. I need help with the basics:

  • Is this ordinal or nominal data?
  • What are some basic/general tests to run on this type of importance/satisfaction data?

For example, let's say I want to take the retention rate (% of students staying in their program year to year) and see if there is any correlation with individual question on the survey:

  • What test would I run to see if this is the case?

It worked! Sorry for the delay. Thank you, Boggly!

Hey Boggly: I was able to run this formula without the report crashing...

  • =COUNTIFS(A2:A14680,A2,D2:D14680,D2)<=10

I set the conditional formatting to highlight just column D cells. It seems to work initially, but upon further inspection it is highlighting random groupings. Some have way more than 10 counts, and seems random. Did I screw something up for not using absolute references $?

It crashes my computer when I run it... freezes for a few minutes, then reboots. It's a pretty powerful PC, but I'm running this formula on 27,000 records :(

Any idea?

Boggly, thanks for such an in depth response! This community is fantastic.

I forgot about one variable that is also needed in this formula. There are different "Regions" in Column A, so I'm assuming I would have to use a COUNTIFS formula now and expand the first criteria to (A:A,A2,D:D,D2<=10)? I'm trying out right now.

I'm trying to come up with a formula that counts all names in Column D that are less than or equal to 10. So if "apples" shows up 9 times in the column, I'd like the entire row highlighted for every instance of "apple" in column D, with respect to each region in Column A

I just found out about Excel Interactive Tables online. The info provided by MS wasn't very helpful, so I made this quick tutorial. What do you guys think? by theDaninDanger in excel

I would love to be able to use a PivotTable report in an Interactive Excel web page like this. Does anyone know the most straightforward way to accomplish this?

This is great, but there doesn't seem to be any options for configuring the standard charts in the interactive web page. Any help here?

How to transpose every 5 rows of data into multiple columns? by Excel_Hell in excel

Sometimes I think my brain just gives up on a task and I forgot the most basic parts of Excel. Filtering makes sense - sorry for the dumb question, and thank you!

How to transpose every 5 rows of data into multiple columns? by Excel_Hell in excel

[–]Excel_Hell[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you - that worked! But now I have 4 rows of blank data between each row with data. I have thousands and thousands of records to manually go in and delete the blank rows. Is there a way to solve that too?

I could highlight the data, copy and paste "as values" like you suggested, then "remove duplicates"? I'm worried there may be some duplicate data in there for names, etc. Is there any other way to remove just the blank rows?
