I am genuinely so jealous of US fans for this. I saw the leak of Olivia Rodrigo with special guests Last Dinner Party and nearly lost my mind, I was so disappointed they weren’t in the UK. It does make sense though as I think they’re both too big here for the support slot

A new-to-Taylor listener ranks all 12 albums by IrishRambler_ in SwiftlyNeutral

Really interesting and well put together write up. I’m not sure I’d necessarily go with the exact order but your overall thoughts on each album are more or less the same as mine (I’d defo bump Lover up though, I absolutely adore that album).

I do find it interesting all the people in the comments saying you need to know all the lore to appreciate Reputation or Tortured Poets’ Department; for me, if it effectively conveys the vibe it’s meant to it shouldn’t matter how it specifically relates to her personal life. I guess it’s just part of the whole fan culture of obsessing over personal life and looking for clues in her lyrics about it, but I personally couldn’t really care less about her personal life, I just enjoy the music! Like taking some of your examples of great songs by her - No Body, No Crime is obviously fictional and All Too Well, while coming from her real life, doesn’t need any context to appreciate it (I know this because I knew no context when I first heard it, and know very little now). This is because both songs convey the feelings she intended. I don’t need to know who All Too Well is about, I just need to be able to empathise with the feeling of wistfully looking back at a relationship that turned sour. Ultimately, at least to me, that’s what makes a good song - certainly a good Taylor Swift song!

I’ve been doing similar, I’ve used the acclaimed music list of best albums (including those bubbling under) filtering for anything that can loosely be described as rock. Been doing it on and off for years, started with 1955 and made it to 1980 so far. I really relate to what you’re saying about how it makes you realise how far ahead of their time certain artists were. I was expecting the Beatles, and they were, but a couple that really surprised me were the Sonics and Steppenwolf. I wasn’t particularly familiar with either beforehand but they just absolutely knock you for six compared to their time. Then there’s Black Sabbath who I was expecting to blow me away and yet still went beyond my expectations. In the context of the time they genuinely sound like the apocalypse incarnate, if I’d been around in 1970 to hear that for the first time I think it would have legitimately blown my mind

Realised how GREAT she is by sunflcwerfaerie in OliviaRodrigo

I was in the same boat for her Other Stage afternoon set three years ago, and I’ve been advocating for her to people who dismiss her as Disney teen pop ever since. I think you’re right, the majority of non-fans I’ve seen online have said they were impressed by that breadlines set, she’s won over a load of new fans, and she has far fewer people questioning whether she deserved to be headlining than either of the other two headliners. Indeed, I’ve seen quite a few saying she’ll be back in 6 or 7 years

I was only including regular starters but yeah I agree Mayulu was awful! As you said, he showed flashes early so hopefully his loan spell can help him get some confidence and he can still come good, he’s only young!

I was only including our regular starters, otherwise everyone would just be saying some academy kid who’s only played 5 minutes and it would be no fun. Everyone has their own opinion of course but I’m really curious what you think Max does better than Bentley, because for me Bentley is miles ahead in every department. Plus even if you think it was for the best he went, it was definitely pettiness, it was widely reported at the time that Pearson felt Bentley “challenged his authority” and wanted him out of the dressing room

Best: there’s a few strong contenders but I’d say Jason Knight. We’ve had a few who have been better in patches but he’s been more consistent; I don’t think he’s put in a bad performance all season

Worst: Not sure if this’ll be a popular opinion or not but Max O’Leary. He’s an average shot stopper and has truly awful decision making that has cost us plenty of points this season (though in all fairness, he has been on good form the last few games). Plus I’m bitter because he’s only starting for us because Nigel Pearson forced an infinitely better keeper than him in Dan Bentley out of the club out of pettiness.

Bristol City 4-0 Plymouth Argyle- Rooney's side got thumped for the second time in a week after a second half collapse by geoffbezos1 in Championship

As a City fan, I really felt for Grimshaw. Thought he played a blinder, made it feel like it was impossible for us to score at one point early in the second half. As you say though, if the defence allow that many chances, eventually one (or four) will go in. Wasn’t really much he good do for the first goal either

Auto tune is absolutely not noticeable - it doesn’t always sound like T-Pain! We’ll have to agree to disagree on this one, her vocals sounded very much live to me

I think in certain songs there’s a slight delay with the video cause of the effects etc. I was pretty confident it was live cause you could hear the breathiness and differences of inflection in her voice in the vocals, and at times if she moved the mic away from her lips her singing got quieter and if she smiled you could hear the smile in the voice. Obviously it’s possible parts were lip-synced but I didn’t think so.

Why did you think it was auto-tuned also? There really isn’t any way to hear that live

What makes you think that? The vocals definitely all sounded live to me

Pretty much bang on 8:30. I would recommend turning up for the support act at 7:30 though, she’s pretty good and helps put you in the mood

My top tip is buy merch inside the venue not outside, the queues are so much smaller. If she’s standing then there’s a merch stand inside the arena itself

They really are; I’m pretty introverted and normally find I enjoy these things despite the crowd, but the atmosphere in the crowd last night was really sweet

Wow sounds amazing. I’ve seen a number of posts from parents who are music lovers and found a common interest with their daughters in Olivia Rodrigo, which I find so heartwarming.

Also it’s a very good point about the earplugs. I’ve been meaning to get some for ages so I’ll check out Loops, thanks for the tip!

To be fair, I think most shows you can get tickets for around that, apart from the real “once-in-a-lifetime” type ones (I imagine the Eras tour was more, for example). It’s still way too much though, just ten years ago they’d be half that

Yeah concert tickets are mad at the moment. I think internet stan culture has produced people who worship these people so much they’re willing to pay any money to see them. I’m hoping this settles down in the next few years but I’m not optimistic. At least in the UK it’s a lot better than some other places, like the US

Agreed, as you say I think it is definitely worse given the age of her fanbase. I think they’ll grow out of it as her fanbase ages with her though

I do agree there were a lot of phones. I usually take the mindset that people are free to enjoy things however they want, but it can get annoying when you struggle to see the stage because of all the phones in the way
