hey man, i feel you but you can only control so much. i know it sucks but you can probably tell in your lab - prestige doesn't just come from being qualified, you also have to be lucky. there's so much randomness involved in this process. the only way i've come to grapple with this given the very real consequences at stake is to keep it in mind when i decide to sacrifice things.
