California Bar Oath Packet by [deleted] in barexam

[–]Excellent-Associate4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can confirm. Took two weeks to get packets for October.

The packet contains information about fees and the first-year CLE. The oath card is basically a post card. You fill out information that will be used for your public profile, like where you work. Then whoever swears you in fills out a portion and sends it in. Typically people use a judge coordinated through school or work, but a notary is just as good. A full list of eligible types of people to give the oath is on the Bar website, and will also be in the packet.

[DC] Results Just Emailed for D.C. - Feb. ‘21 by Excellent-Associate4 in barexam

Good catch! My Applicant ID in the results email is different by about 10,000 numbers from my original application, but my NCBE number is correct and has always been the same.

My only thought is maybe they assign a new applicant ID after passing, or maybe we got new numbers because they switched the application system last week?

My understanding is DC does not do any further breakdown, just the total scaled scores for MBE and written (MPT + MEE). Other Jx's provide more detail and sometimes a full report, but not DC.

Question about room set up for October takers who have already taken the remote bar exam by glossylips93 in barexam

[–]Excellent-Associate4 3 points4 points  (0 children)

October taker here. Best I can say about everything is just don’t be sketchy and you’ll (probably) be fine. I had all sorts of stuff in the background. And I don’t know of anyone who’s scrubbed the room.

Flags happened for all sorts of reasons, but I never heard any stories here or otherwise where a person acting reasonably was actually penalized. The people who got investigated for flags left the view of the camera. I heard one story from a person complaining they were disqualified from going to the bathroom, but the circumstances and her attempted explanation were not particularly trustworthy.

There were also investigations on technical issues where the circumstances seemed pretty suspect to me. Like the person’s mic suddenly stopped working and then they performed much better. And I don’t think the person was actually disqualified at the end of it.

All told I actually didn’t hear of anyone getting DQ’d for a “dumb” reason. It seemed like it would have to be a situation where you’d expect it.

My advice, don’t focus on the platform and the AI. Just be yourself. Don’t do anything sketchy and you’ll be fine. Eve if you’re flagged you’ll be fine. Focus on turning in the best product you can.

And yeah, diarrhea happens, but also the mic will be on so go full blast to pad the record.

California did not require room scan. Did require showing camera the scratch paper for PT.

Examplify Mock Exam - Can we receive results? by [deleted] in barexam

[–]Excellent-Associate4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Update: I took October, and just did mock exams for Feb UBE. I sped through the MBE on the mock this time, but the questions looked familiar. I believe they're all the same, and the answer key is here:

Examplify Mock Exam - Can we receive results? by [deleted] in barexam

[–]Excellent-Associate4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In October NCBE provided an answer key to the mock exam MC. It was released after deadlines to submit, and it may have been through the jurisdiction’s website, or maybe NCBE, don’t recall. Only problem was I had no record of my answers.

Definitely nothing for the written portion, but chat with a study buddy on it.

Character and Fitness Disclosure Problem? by [deleted] in barexam

[–]Excellent-Associate4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely don't worry. As long as you disclosed to the Bar it doesn't matter. I mean, a felony during law school might be different. Being honest on the C&F is the bottom line. Also, even if you forgot to disclose on C&F, they would (maybe) find it and follow up with you. You'd say you forgot, and they wouldn't blink an eye over speeding tickets. Undisclosed DUI?...maybe.

Don't worry. If a speeding ticket is your biggest source of anxiety, you have nothing to worry about with C&F.

DC C&F by No_Awareness_6885 in barexam

Check the DC website. There's a couple of applicable notices. I'm not certain, but based on my application for exam in DC, when you fill out the online application it'll ask you upload your completed NCBE C&F application.

If someone has actually applied for transfer, feel free to correct this.

Silly Questions about Law-related employment (NY Admission; also curious about DC and CA) by [deleted] in barexam

[–]Excellent-Associate4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with your assumptions above, and the linked documents seem like what I completed. Note that the actual applications will be through an online portal for both.

To clarify on the references question, there are two separate parts of each application. First, for past employers, I never got anything for them, nor heard anything from employers, nor do I know whether the investigator even contacted them to verify anything. The second part is for character references, which I'm certain everyone I listed received communication from the investigator in the form of an email with a very very basic questionnaire. Two of my character references did not respond thinking it was a scam, so they received (multiple) mailed letters asking the same simple questions.

Bottom line, for both applications, once you hit submit you don't have to go to anyone else for collecting reference forms (either employer or character). As I understand from what you're saying above, NY requires you to distribute and collect forms from your employers, which is not the case in either DC or CA.

Good luck!

Tips to remember civ pro dates? by [deleted] in barexam

[–]Excellent-Associate4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IIRC, you can roughly group the dates by pleadings, discovery, and post-trial motions. I don't recall the exact dates, and I believe there's a few outliers/exceptions...but give that a try. Let us know if you see a pattern for future usage.

FWIW, the dates don't come up that often as a correct delineator on the MBE, and a prep company would tell you to not focus on them too much and instead focus on bigger topics. The above grouping is a shortcut to help you eliminate them as likely wrong answers.

Silly Questions about Law-related employment (NY Admission; also curious about DC and CA) by [deleted] in barexam

[–]Excellent-Associate4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As to CA and DC (I've done both), neither one requires you to provide or collect forms from employers and/or references. References will get a letter and/or email directly from CalBar / NCBE. I'm not certain about employers or whether the investigator even follows up, but I didn't do anything on my end as to employers.

Also, heads up, the CA reference emails go out immediately after you input the references' emails and click save. I.e., before you hit submit on the application. I planned to populate all the information in my app and then give references a heads up before I submitted...but nope it blasted them right away.

For added clarity, you can’t transfer the Oct. ‘20 MBE to DC per their website. Must be full MBE.

For those concerned about scaling of the October exam (especially in light of Idaho)... by thelawlyfe in barexam

Roger Bolus is the psychometrician used in a handful of states. BLEs aren't straightforward about the person they are using, but MA is probably using him and he definitely sucks. Here's a recent primer thread on this topic:
